Including the Statue of Liberty, an object that sits in the New Jersey waters of the Hudson Bay, is a nice little homage to the greater NY market ;)

Those Rangers logos...awful, just atrocious. That's the kind of design that makes me want to slap everyone who wasn't vocally against it in the design process.

Aside from the 'NY' being shoehorned into that one Sabres logo, I do rather like their set, though.

Nope about 5% of fans still haven't realized that this event has lost its luster. The NHL has beaten this horse into mush....no idea why these events have any merit anymore whatsoever. They are boring as ****, but they make the NHL money...sooo.....

Oh yes, the best is actually being at the game where you're cold, can't see the game and resort to talking to pass the time....

I was at the Winter Classic last year. It was spectacular.

I was at the first one in Buffalo 10 years ago.

It was a total blast, even despite the loss.

Got tickets to this one already. So stoked to be going again.

Plus I'm a Mets fan too, so the fact that it's at Citifield is an added bonus.

People have to hate on everything. The Winter Classic gets the NHL in the limelight and good media coverage. Nice little event where we are the only sport playing.

Lighten the **** up.

Well and the statue is owned by the federal government so the whole point is mute. I just wanted to get a rise out of a Ranger fan and Machinehead couldn't resist :sarcasm:

Three Stanley Cups and you still have to resort to cheap shots like that ;)

Do people still care about the winter classic?

Well I do.

It's one of the cooler events the NHL has made within the last 20 years and it still hasn't lost its luster for me.

I always wonder why people complain about the event itself like this. Do people really wish that there would be nothing within the season besides just normal games? I'd rather watch an event like this than there to be nothing to look forward to but the playoffs. It's not like normal games remain just as exciting from the start of the season as they do until the end.

The thing is unless your team is playing in it it is a normal game. And half the teams that have been in one have been in quite a few so for those fan bases it isn't even that unique.

I get that the NHL can't count past 7 when it comes to teams playing in it, but I still argue that it's more fun to have it than not.

There are definite ways to improve it, no doubt. The NHL needs to be more willing to give lower market teams a chance to play. But when I read comments like the one I quoted, all I can think is that people would rather there be nothing than having something.

Do what the NFL does.

Have three of these on New Years Day and you can have your same old teams in two of them (like the NFL always has their Cowboys and Lions on Thanksgiving) and then the third game can be whatever.
