Yah, Summer Classic!

Also, if we have to dig up an O6 or even a Canadian team, I'd pick the Rangers or the Oilers.

The game should look like the 91-92 Upper Deck cards of Pavel Bure (rhymes with "pure") and the Rangers Star Rookies Amonte, Weight and Rice cards. Heck, Upper Deck from So. Cal should be there!

Kings vs Flyers would be a good choice. I think their fans travel well. I've seen quite a few Flyers fans in Staples in the past.

Rumour has Canucks hosting a Heritage Classic outside next year, so I have my doubts that they'd have their own outdoor game and then also play in an outdoor game in LA.

I wonder where the Canucks would hold the game? BC Place isn't really outside, I'm not sure the roof can even open in their "winter" weather.

If the Kings host a game at Dodgers Stadium, you can be certain I will be there. I wonder what other games they would have there? It would be fantastic to have a Legends Game and have Gretzky come back like they did in Edmonton. As much as the Ducks/Kings would be a good rivalry, it would be nice to see a team with some Legends. I'd rather not see Gretzky playing against guys like Kariya and Guy Hebert.

I'd assume they'd likely have Manchester come out West and play a game on this. It would make the most sense to bring Abbotsford down since they are the closest team to LA. Also, have the Reign play against someone.

It is too bad they didn't do this this year. I'm sure that the Kings would've liked to capitalize on the Cup. Of course, they could repeat this year and then not a big deal.

Also, since it would make more sense not to play on New Years Day, they could hold the game at the Rose Bowl. Then again, perhaps Dodgers Stadium might be a better idea as I'm wondering whether a game like this would fill the Rose Bowl?

As an aside, what is Doyers Stadium? Is that some nickname for Dodgers Stadium or a corporate sponsor or just a typo?

I think it would be a team from the East as the NHL would likely want to increase their TV exposure.
Imagine the jersey potential!!

I wonder what the Kings would choose for their jersey. We already have throwback jerseys as our potential third next year, the Gretzky era jerseys are probably too close to what we have now, and the 2000's purple and silver isn't classic. Would we make up a new jersey that looks retro? Maybe do the 80's forum blue and gold with the white piping? I'm curious to see what we'd do if given the chance.

I'd like to see an East vs. West type matchup with the Kings taking on one of the following opponents:

New York Rangers
Philadelphia Flyers
Boston Bruins
Toronto Maple Leafs

The games against the Eastern teams tend to be a bit more wide open, so it could make for a fun game as opposed to seeing the Kings face an opponent that we are used to seeing them play on more than one occasion during the season.

In what alternate universe is it even remotely cold enough in Los Angeles on any day of the year to have an outdoor ice rink capable of sustaining NHL play?

Yeah, do you remember that game? I have no desire to see Kopitar and friends out there trying to play at regular season pace on ice that has to be frozen by fire extinguishers. With the evolved size and speed of the game, it would be a miracle if at least 3 guys didn't break their ankles.

That was back in 1991 in a desert. You don't think they've advanced far enough in logistics and equipment to pull it off in LA, 23 years later?

It was also 22 years ago. The tech to keep the ice better has improved dramatically.

Haven't you guys noticed that they've had plenty of problems with the ice the last few years during the winter classic in climates where the temperatures are actually freezing outside?

Bandit, you are such a Debbie downer (not just in this thread).

Sorry it bothers you, just being practical. I'd rather not see our guys skate on terrible ice just for a gimmick.
