I've been watching the NHL Network since the presser, and it's interesting watching all of the tweets from NHL players young and old. All of them are saying "Congratulations on getting the Jets back." Even the players associate the Jets with Winnipeg.
Yep. It may be bad because it's not the Yotes returning. But the Jets, in hockey and Canada, means Winnipeg. Bettman said himself, they are free to use it. Obviously they'll have to get the lawyers out again, but it won't nearly be as hard as when they purchased the Thrashers. Do the right thing, Chipman!

I also detest the Moose name because it was a farm club for Vancouver. It's like you're promoting Vancouver's AHL team to the NHL, giving Vancouver and THEIR history, two teams in the league at ONCE.

That's the best reason for nixing the moose name that I've read.

Would it be a terrible idea to take season ticket orders for a week and the ask all those who bought a package to vote on between a couple of options?

It's probably been already mentioned, but I heard someone somewhere else mention the Falcons as a name. I really support it. You have the connection to Winnipeg, relating back to the old Falcons and you have the connection to the roots in Atlanta sports.

I just don't think it would be proper to name them the Jets. That franchise moved to Phoenix and is still there. Naming the new team the Jets seems like it would be trying to pick up right where the old team left off. It would completely bury their time in Atlanta.

I still think the best thing TNSE could do, is keep it as the Jets, but have a new logo, uniform, etc. Fans get their Jets and TNSE gets their jersey sales. They can make it out as a "New Jets" type of thing

I agree, fans want to keep their history. Who wants to throwaway 17 years and start over. Call them the Jets and it's season 18.

I agree. Some folks have argued that it doesn't make sense to call them the Jets unless it's the Coyotes coming back. Even if the Yotes came back, who on that team played for the Jets when they were last in Winnipeg? Hell, there aren't may players in the league today that were around last time a game was played in the Peg. I see nothing wrong with a full restoration of name and history. They were just on hiatus. I'm cool with that.

If I lived in Winnipeg, I'd be one of those people that called them the Jets until the day I died, screamed "Go Jets Go!" in the stands, and wore Jets gear all over the place. I wouldn't care what was thought of me.

Just have to read a couple of your posts and we know that's true:laugh::towel:

Why don't you just let the guys who laid out $170 million for the team decide?

Well, that's their prerogative but that doesn't mean we can't say it would be a misguided choice to not go with Jets. I mean in spite of the team being their property we are entitled to discuss the wisdom of their business decisions, right?

Frankly, if Winnipeg fans are going to keep their support from the team because of something stupid like the name, then I can only hope that the franchise is on the move again in a few years.

The Winnipeg Golden Jets

Give some lovin to Bobby Hull in a way, while not directly losing the Jet name.

That wouldn't fly. The NHL will put the kibosh on anything that has the word "Jets" in it. They wouldn't be able to stop a type of jet being the team name, nor the fans giving that the extra nickname, much like how almost any pro sports team named after some sort of bird are also called "Birds"

The NHL has said that the Jets name is available to TNSE if they want it.

which is probably a good thing

as mentioned otherwise, the Jets name is being offered up by the NHL, and I doubt Phoenix or the other teams give a damn.

I'd bet money that they become the Jets, as they should :)

So many people seem to think that it's a choice between the Jets tradition and a fresh start/new sweater sales.

Not necessarily, TNSE could use Moose colour scheme on their new sweaters while retaining the Jets name.
