In this week, 28 years ago, the Winnipeg Jets traded their 3rd round pick (Kevin McKay) to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Neil Wilkinson, changing both organizations, forever.
It was 50 years ago today, June 27, 1972, that I was at the corner of Portage & Main in Winnipeg, along with thousands of others, watching Bobby Hull sign a contract with the WHA Winnipeg Jets.
This event enabled to league to get off the ground, and led to the eventual inclusion in the NHL of the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers (now Carolina Hurricanes) and Quebec Nordiques (now Colorado Avalanche).
So without this event 50 years ago, the Colorado Avalanche don't exist to win the Stanley Cup last night.
I'm sure their cheque is in the mail.
And the sad part all the other 3 WHA teams that joined the NHL with the Jets all have won the Stanley Cup.
The size of that tie
I look at it as a good thing, considering 2 of those teams moved when the franchise won a cup. Once the Jets left, I never wanted Phoenix to do well. And the sad part all the other 3 WHA teams that joined the NHL with the Jets all have won the Stanley Cup.
I remember listening to this one on the radio. I assume the video review couldn’t conclusively say the puck was thrown in? They certainly couldn’t overrule based on him handling the puck in of itself as that’s not reviewable.
Didn't realize Thomas Steen was such a goon...damn Swedes...PIM
