Must be nice to be the individual who gets to decide what privileges people are entitled to

Convicted pedophiles get second chances for f***s sake. Q may have had poor judgement, but he didn't commit a crime

That individual is Gary Bettman.

I don't see him getting reinstated and I don't see the Jets going after him if he is, so it's a bit of a dead end discussion.

Hard pass on Q, don't want to see him back in the league.

Give Lowry's scrum today a listen to hear about how great of a person Bones was, and the impact that his genuine care and interest in their lives has had on the team in the last 2 years. Now contrast that with Q where one of his players was raped by his co-worker and he decided to cover it up for a decade because they were on a playoff run at the time.

I wonder if they look at an AHL coach after the success of Knoblauch.

Todd Nelson is a great AHL coach, Calder cup with two different teams. Was Bowness' assistant in Dallas. Not a lot of head coaching experience in the NHL though.

I guess Berube is as close to Trotz as there is this year?
Like the Nelson mention.

I thought Nelson did a pretty good job of reviving a pretty pathetic Oilers team when he took on the interim role a few years back.

Seems like a pretty innovative coach.

Lauer for HC!
Hello WPS I'd like to report an escaped mental patient running amuck in our forum here at HF.

Listen he's out on the ledge saying he needs Brad Lauer to come give him a hug saying this Brad Lauer character has the best power kill he's ever seen. What should we do?

What? Well if you think that will work. I guess trading him and Neal Pionk to the Maple Leafs board for Joel Edmonson does get him off our board but shouldnt you still send someone to check on him?

Now he's jumping up and down yelling F* ck Vegas, F*ck Vegas.
Oh your send Detective Sipowicz to check on this individual. That should work out well.😆

The coach this team really needs is John Tortorella. They need someone to call it like it is and bring some toughness to the rink.

I love Torts, but he’s too big an ego for TNSE. Then again, maybe he’d be perfect for the Winnipeg media. They seem to be restricted to softball questions only and Torts always had run in with “Brooksie” who would challenge his decisions. Will never happen though.

I don't want any Torts, Babs or Suter or any of those old school coaches anywhere near this team. These guys tend to have a 1 season shelf life where they get guys to buy in and then lose the room in a season. Not only that they tend to drive away players nearly everywhere they go because no one actually wants to play for them.

We need some fresh blood on this coaching staff. Not another retread has been.

I’ll be completely shocked if it’s not Arniel, though I do hope otherwise.

“We interviewed a bunch of great candidates, but it turns out the best man for the job was here the entire time!”

And as for the team looking good when Arneil had to step in - I liken that to a pilot setting the autopilot and letting a kid wear his hat and sit in the captain’s seat. The success there was 95% the team following Bowness’s system and instructions over anything Arneil did.

I just think it will be Arniel because he already knows the systems the Jets are currently employing, and other than the playoffs, the system was successful. If you do bring in a new coach from outside the organization, they may want to change it all up, and with that, there is a risk that it goes the wrong way.

Looking forward to see what they do....

We may have some insight - if TNSE takes time to announce then we know they are waiting for a wider net to be cast or hopeful to chase someone else, for example if Arniel is absolutely the guy then why not just make the announcement next week and get it over with?

What I’m saying is if it takes time to announce, they may not be jumping on the Arniel train unless it’s out of necessity- which bodes well for us who hope to see new blood

I’m ok with Arniel if no one else answers Chevys call but I hope they go hard after some solid choices

And didn’t they do good the first time Bowness was away, and then sucked the second time? And then people here were already waiying for Bowness to get back.

I don't think we really can glean much about Arniel's performance when Bones was away. While I'm sure he had some autonomy in the individual games running the bench, he was still ultimately using Bones's play book.

It's been so long that he has been a head coach that I'm not really sure what systems Arniel prefers to run.

Frankie Corrado nailed it. Jets need a coach who can get the most out of 55, 81 etc. Difficult to say who that might be, but I do believe that Scheifele is the sort of guy who would respond to a hard nosed coach.

Last team he head coached was pretty bad as well. Those early 2010's Jackets teams were awful.

I have no idea what, if anything, new he will bring to the team.

I just really hope we actually don't have him pencilled in and explore all options but I'm not optimistic.

To get the most out of Scheif you need to utilize him like Maurice did. He's on offensive player through and through. It would help if we had a better 1C and Scheif at 2C but we don't so you kinda have to work with what you have.

Agreed on both points.

My personal interest if we cant get any of the big fish coaches would be Gardiner MacDougall. Guy does nothing but win behind the bench and just capped off a perfect season (50-0) with back to back Uni Cups and a U18 gold. Thats on top of winning over a dozen other USports national championships, a Memorial Cup, and even an MJHL championship with the OCN Blizzard so he has some connections to Manitoba. He knows exactly what it takes to build a winning culture in a locker room
Dont forget time with the Bombers :)

IT has to be by his choice he has never gotten consideration from NHL.

Good post. I also think a big name successful coach also helps sell excitement and thus tickets along with putting the team in the best spot to win.

Can you imagine if they were able to land Cooper if he became available.

It will be very interesting if they double down on the trying to fit the roster to a predetermined scheme or if they elect to bring in someone to fit the scheme to the roster for once.

I don't think so. They will consider all options, then hire Arniel.

yeah, obviously they won't just hand him the reigns immediately. They don't want the optics to appear as though they aren't exploring options and looking for the best guy. But I'd be willing to bet they've already had lots of discussions with Arniel about him succeeding Bones. I'd bet even Bones has been a part of those discussions. It's been the plan since Bones was hired. Short of him getting arrested for child pornography or a DUI accident or something Arniel will be the new coach...
