a canadian league could never compete with an american league. if the nhl is too expensive watch an ahl game instead or even a chl game.

Honestly, a weeknight game early in the season and factoring in all the various reasons for not going, I'm somewhat impressed that the attendance was as large as it was.

Some of you guys shitting on our team, fan base, and spelling all of this doom n gloom of relocating need to get real, even at its worst the Jets 2.0 are in a situation miles ahead of where the 1.0 iteration of this org was. Sighs

Yes the economy is in the shitter here, Winnipegers (including myself) are feeling it

Yes the team is mediocre and has been at all levels on and off the ice since 2018

Yes attendance is going to struggle immensely in a tanked economy, or rebuild/retool phase

Yes Winnipeg is a dump in comparison to other destinations in the league

NO the team is not going to relocate even with all of what I just mentioned

TNSE has just raised True North Square behind the arena and it cost over $400mil, they’re buying that dump in Portage Place across the street for $500mil and are going to spend more redeveloping it. Almost a billion dollars in property development spending that trumps whatever salaries they need to pay to the players, coaching and management, or arena staff. TNSE has a nice monopoly on downtown Winnipeg and has gotten tens of millions of dollars in government tax incentives for a long time. They managed to build a decent entertainment district to an otherwise wasteland of a downtown and brought an NHL team back that has only grown in value since relocating from Atlanta. They rake in profits from ventures outside of their NHL ownership and have the richest man in the country as a co-owner. Doesn’t sound like they’re leaving now does it?

If the reason for your NHL team drawing poorly is the popularity of the local CFL team then your city has no business having an NHL team.
So all the American teams that have NBA NFL and MLB drawing all the media attention and interest can leave the nhl as well I guess eh?

Any reason Jets fans hype up True North Square so much for Chipman when he only owns 2/5 towers? lol

An answer from someone in the city, and it not being the primary team I cheer for.

The Jets face living in a market that doesn’t have a lot of business support, and times are simply tough for most people. Spending the kind of money needed to go to an NHL game, and grab a couple of beers isn’t extra money most people have these days.

It’s really as simple as that.

Imo stagnation is also another reason, I am not sure how Chevy remains employed after all these years - and the team simply trots out basically the same lineup season, after season expecting better results.

No Winnipeg is not a FA destination, but the product itself is far too boring for people already having to count their loonies - to willingly spend it on the Jets.

No matter how many promotional nights the team desperately advertises to attract “new” fans.

Tell me you're uneducated without telling me.

It's almost as if they lease/sell out the building spaces to other companies and shit just like....oh yeah every other city with skyline buildings everywhere on earth, including yours. Do you think TNSE is just going to stuff all 5 of those towers with bullshite? Btw Dallas (the city) is overrated asf and is owned by several corporations lol. Get real.

Man, it sure is nice that a different Canadian team is taking the attendance heat now.

I mean, it sucks but... just glad it's not us anymore.
I don’t think any decent Jets fans should have to defend not wasting money on mediocre product.

I do need to see the nationalists defend it though. Since they were the ones pounding chest about how Canadians will always sell out games.

In order keep fans from going totally apathetic towards the franchise, you need to be a contender, on the verge of contention, be a young team with developing stars (or just be fun to watch even in defeat), or at least show that mediocrity won't be tolerated.

I'm not sure the Jets have any of the above.
Again, they've made the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years.

What True North doesn’t realize, is their questionable decision to build in the middle of downtown is coming home to roost.

The true north entertainment complex next to the arena doesn’t attract enough people, nor will the new “portage place”. There is a reason folks don’t spend time downtown, and drive out as soon as the games are over.

A lack of extra spending money aside, I think the biggest fix is actually daring to rebuild one time. Nobody is getting excited for the same mediocre slop every season when the outcome is basically known already.

They had a change to rebuild this off season, and chose to re sign Mark/Connor to huge contracts.

I mean, Northland Properties is developing Tower 3 & 4, which Dallas Stars owner, Tom Gaglardi hasn't built yet after COVID. The fifth tower is being built in partnership with Wawanesa.

Please give me your educated facts since I am wrong?

Yet out with a whisper in recent years. The ECF against Vegas is a long time ago, and the talent lost since that date has not been replaced.

If the team refuses to rebuild, they will continue to see low turnout from individuals refusing to support a predictable, and stagnant product.

I’ll also add, that Bowness hockey isn’t exactly drawing fans to the stands.

The americanization of the game is ruining Canada.

In an ideal world Canada has its own league like Russia, Sweden, Finland etc. Salaries are not as high, Normal people can attend games etc.

Nunber one priority working for the game in Canada. This is the only country that shares its sport and main league with a other country. It's basically a slave state.

The game is losing popularity because Canadian teams are not having success and there is no Olympics which stops this entire country every 4 years.

The nhls main goal is to have American dominance in Hockey through players, removal of Canadians, and expansion in these useless american cities (Las Vegas , Seattle etc). I believe the word capitalists like many in this forum use is "markets".

It's such a shame what's happening. If only a dream world existed and Canada had a league like the KHL in Russia with teams all over Canada and the game being played by everyone.

There are now kids growing up in Montréal, the mecca and birth place of the game not even learning the game.

It's so so sad.

There needs to be a change where Canadian teams have rights to their own provincial players or something.

It's pathetic a prodigy growing up here has to spend his career playing in Pittsburgh and Chicago.
This is satire, right?

Disagree with all these as far as reasons for the struggling attendance. Economy is bad everywhere. Inflation is everywhere.
The Jets have made the playoffs 5 out of the last 6 years and has gotten through the first round 3 times. That is not the reason tickets aren't selling.

This I agree with.

Woooooow, its as if other national companies like to get involved with real estate development projects where there's money to be made! Color me shocked ig? Welcome to property development business 101 guy, this is a practice that is common place in quite a lot of real estate projects so I'm not sure what you think spouting off whatever you're blabbing is proving.

Yes, everyone is aware that construction and housing firms owned by other people do business in other areas. Congratulations.

Not a good reason to not sell out the smallest (permanent) arena in the league. Especially in a hockey-crazy city like Peg. Bad excuse.
