Well I disagree on the # of teams thing. I think they could really use that #10 team, whether that be Halifax/Maritimes or Quebec City. Balances the divisions AND could balance the schedule too (2 games v every opponent). Would really make the league feel complete.

Getting above 10 would be tricky/impossible currently. You'd have 1 market out east to expand to, but #12 would have to be Victoria/Okanagan Valley/Saskatoon or maybe London but playing in West Division. That's the point where yeah not sure you'd need that, but 10 is a good solid number, IMO.

Victoria I can see, same goes for a city in the Okanagan like Kelowna to get a CFL team.
Depends on whether they can get the fan support.

Doubt they can put another team in Saskatchewan, that whole province is gaga over the Roughriders.

Another team in southern Ontario possibly, either be it Windsor/London/Kitchener/Waterloo.

But I think the CFL wants to have a team in the maritimes, this has been an on going discussion for 40 plus years now.

I'd be surprised if they keep 9 teams through the end of this decade.

Montreal, BC, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton are all losing significant money. Obviously speculation on the private owned teams but Edmonton we know for sure. All of them will need stadiums/massive renovations sooner than later to be viable. At this point lucky to have the NHL clubs involved with ownership in Calgary and Toronto and some deeper pockets involved in Montreal. But if they are writing down $5-$10 million in losses year by year the league is at the whim of a board of a bigger organization or owner just walking away from those losses. I know that doesn't seem like a ton of money when the Leafs have 4 guys making 8 figures...but the cash flow on the CFL operation is the problem. Spending tens of millions for cash flows that are in the millions is not good business.

I think if they get a stadium deal in Halifax they'll jump on it but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be the 10th team.

i watched a total of one XFL game since the relaunch and i thought it was absolute ass garbage,

pisspoor quality of play across the board. The CFL might not be elite level but it's at least a consistent, well established league.

The CFL's biggest long term concern imo isn't clownshow leagues like that but the changing roster rules in the NFL allowing teams to horde QBs.

Yeah it was hard for me to watch the XFL and the USFL, it was just meh.
Probably because, us fans of the NFL have no affiliation or commitment to one team.

You being the Dolphins fan, me being the Raiders fan, we can enjoy NFL football regardless who the team is.

I'll watch CFL if its on no matter who the team is, if the Bombers are playing I'll for sure watch.

I've never heard anything related to Halifax that I could take seriously. Especially with one of the Phoenix Ice Clowns leading the charge. I expect any decision to go there would be purely political (CFL now Canada coast to coast, wave that flag) and we would just end up with another weak franchise. QC? Maybe but I had the impression that the Rouge et Or owned the hearts and wallets of football fans there.

no way can victoria support a cfl team. City itself is small (90k) and the demographics aren’t really there. That 400k is greater victoria which stretches from Sooke to Sidney Is far, and People are skiddish about driving 10 mins

plus the local team is the lions

Those guys are out. CFL has reported they are working with other ownership groups. The temp stadium idea has some political backing from what I heard.

I think Atlantic Canada would/could be a HUGE success if done right. Only pro sports team in Maritimes

Holden do you have a Scouting report on C kolankowski and Dobson?
Kolankowski is a journeyman vet who had his career best year last making ~13-14 starts with the Bombers at C last year at age 29/30. Bounced around pre-pandemic, spent at least some time in TOR and I think was out of football in 2019. He was either a late pick or undrafted. He wasn't noticeable last year which is good. He's not an All-Star like Couture was in his prime, but certainly a serviceable C. I think he's one of those guys that if you put him on a strong OL like Bombers he'll blend in and be fine, but on weak OL he'd never save it/improve it that much. Just a solid number, in both pass and run blocking.

Liam Dobson is a former #3 overall by the Bombers. More of a G than C honestly. Tui Eli currently on IR is the backup C. Dobson is physically impressive, incredibly athletic. He was once considered as a potential NFL pick. In fact he was drafted #3 in 21 then returned to school for a year and in 2022 he actually signed in USFL rather than in WPG to try to get an NFL contract. His contract ended up getting canceled due to visa issues, resulting in him reporting to camp late last year. Spent the year as OL 6/7 playing primarily at TE in "big" packages. I thought he was just OK in that role, seemed to really struggle in space. Good run blocker. Likely the heir apparent at RG for Patrick Neufeld, but we need to see him take a step forward this year.

With zone run blocking nowadays the OL game is pretty simple: work as a crew and finish plays.

Pass pro is where you sometimes might see guys get isolated but it’s still a lot about communication and doing your job.

For me I like Kolankowski’s mobility as a Centre, the key to the zone run blocks is to separate off the double team to get the next block. He’s great at getting up to the next block with our guards or kicking out to grab a SAM or WIL off a trap block, basically an inside pull.

That’s where Eli struggles a bit. But he takes up a lot of space.

Dobson got better as that extra edge blocker as last season went on. But you could tell he had no idea how to pass pro in that set. He’s never faced the speed off the edge he’s seeing in this league. It’s kind of a trig problem with how many kick steps you take to cut off the angle into the pocket and when you engage the rusher depending on how wide they are lined up. Also foreign to a more interior style or RPO school guy to work backwards so much and have to stay parallel, not open up the hips to the sideline.

VA seems like he's fitting right in with BC. They looked solid. Could be the #2 team in West Bombers are going to have chasing them all year :naughty:

Hey guys and gals, I’m going to my first bomber game in ages. Any tips about parking? And how early should I go if I don’t want to miss kick off?
