Leafs lose
I'm far from a Leafs fan, but I think they did well, and did what they intended to do.

That being said, I can't see them beating Florida in a playoff series. And that's not a knock on TO, just that Florida is that good. There are a few western teams that could take them down, and maybe Tampa, as rivalry playoff series are typically very close.

Vancouver doing nothing is literally a joke. Pick a f***ing direction.
Which direction did they have? Vancouver way overperformed last year--everything went right. This year, everything went wrong. For the fanbase to now act like they are too good to chase a wildcard spot, having never made the playoffs twice in a row since 2013, is hilarious. Making the playoffs for a consecutive year would be a big deal for the franchise and a step forward, especially given all the garbage and injuries they've dealt with this season. It certainly will mean a lot to the players that have been here through the losses. Moving Boeser for next to nothing was not worth squandering their shot at the post season, everyone in the organization working hard would feel betrayed--players, coaches, staff.

The Canucks still have an excellent shot at making the playoffs, and next to no shot at winning a cup this year. Their window also isn't anywhere near to closing. Standing pat is completely acceptable, especially if the offers were garbage. Too, it sounds like they are open to keeping Boeser, and the poor interest around the league at the deadline is going to be negotiation leverage, especially if there were hard feelings after the Canucks low extension offer.

It's really hard to say who are really the winner...

Colorado did a lot of good trade but at the same time 1/3 of thwir roster are new player with just few game to create chemistry, team spirit and whatever....

Florida make pretty good trade and bring a marchand with tkachuk and bennett is pretty intrigating but at the same time, he stole a spot from someone and taking exemple time on pp from a key player. We saw by the past those kind of trade jot necessairly having impact you would like... Patrick kane, Giroux, guentzel, Meier. Its the kind of thing extremely hard to predict

On paper both did an amaizing thing but on the ice...

I preferred what Dallas did. Replace a Stankoven in their line up by Rantanen, he doesn't take anyone spot and granlund /ceci just completing the roster where dallas needed.

I liked what Tampa and Toronto did with pretty similar strategy. Get player who fit in system and just step in and bring basically an empty spot.

Without question Dallas and the Avs and Florida all did very well....the favorites now I would say....barring injuries, I expect the Finals will involve 2 of these 3 teams....the losers I suppose are the teams that did nothing like the Jets...of course you could argue they didn't need to do nothing but I would put Dallas easily ahead of Winnipeg now and likely Colorado as well.

Dallas Florida and Colorado for obvious reasons are the winners. Toronto improves but still they are below the Panthers. Still classify them as one of the winners as they did what they wanted to do. Edmonton failed to get a goalie, Winnipeg improves but are in worse position today than yesterday simply because Dallas and Colorado got much better. Winnipeg reminds me of Toronto’s situation. They got better but not as much as their rivals.

people calling the habs losers cracks me up.
Hughes decided he'd let a rebuilding team stay together
and keep learning how to win - Suzuki requested this.

Habs have 12 picks this summer.
They didn't need more mid picks or seconds if it meant
breaking the team up. It might not make sense to 99.9% of you,
but it makes sense to the teammates in the room.

Are they losers because they didn't get more 3rds and 4ths (maybe a 2nd) in the 3rd year of a rebuild?
Or are they winners because they remained patient and didn't make panic moves and allow 2nd youngest team in the league to still learn from this unexpected playoff run?
Pick a lane with your hot takes.

To everyone saying the Habs are losers this deadline.

There is more to building a team than acquiring assets. What does it say to your young team that is 5-0-1 in their last 6 and are 1 point out of a playoff spot if you sell for picks you don't need? Playing meaningful games is more important than our like 6th 2nd in 2 years.
If the Canadiens' young players could benefit from a playoff berth, then why wasn't buying an option? After all, the Canadiens don't need picks because they have 12 of them. Why not give one or two of them up for help now? Who cares about the inflated prices right now if they have the picks to trade and don't really need them?

good point. I don't have the answer. maybe prices were ridiculous. Habs needed a C - I think they would've liked Cozens, but they don't have a Norris equivalent

Many proclaimed Nashville were big winner the 2024 free agency. We won’t know winners and losers of this TDL for a while. But likely most of the clubs over spending for aging players will be losers.
I tend to agree... The tdl winning move is usually a minor move for a solid club. The big names almost never workout. So jets will win cup. Or wild.
