100%.
Perfect example of how fans and even media types these days, look at scoresheets to determine how good they think a prospect/player is. Ignoring what hall of Famers like Patrick Kane are saying about Danielson. Just not watching the games themselves either, where Danielson makes the right decisions 75% of the time already.
What’s funny is, if he had scored 2 empty net goals, those same stat-chasers would’ve been demanding he make the team.
99% of NHL players, have to adjust to playing against very skilled men. It’s night and day compared to Junior or college hockey. Danielson is far and away more ready than let’s say Kasper was, this time last year, and Kasper already played a season against men in Sweden. Same can be said of MBN right now. He and Danielson will be ready either later this season, or to begin next year. They’re two very high-end prospects.
It takes a minute before they’re going to just produce on the scoresheet in either league. For someone like Danielson, that’s gonna be around Xmas time this year. About 15-20 games in the AHL, we should see him getting pretty comfortable against men, and the stats should start coming. Then they can decide if he finishes the season in the AHL to gain confidence, or continues to develop in the NHL. Where his stats won’t be great this year, but the experience he’s gonna get, would be, heading into next season
Someone mentioned Cozens with Buffalo, as a comparison to Danielson, and that’s not a bad one at all.
To even more confuse some folks, are the players like Michkov let’s say. There’s little defense played in the preseason, and when very quick, skilled players have free space, they’re going to stand out. Then you watch him play a real game last night, and other than a couple of flashes when he had the puck in free space, he was non existent. Got pushed around a lot, had his stick knocked out of his hands 3-4 times. He was overwhelmed at times.
Nobody has any patience anymore with prospects.
