Gotta ask. Are you guys still high on Danielson after his awful preseason?

Yes.

He had a strong preseason in 2023-24. Had a solid season between Portland and Brandon. And looked alright in the preseason. I think he's got the potential to be a Dylan Cozens type for Detroit, or maybe even a Dylan Larkin lite. But he's going to have to become physically stronger to reach that potential. His speed is damn near elite. His stickhandling and shot are terrific. His hockey sense/IQ are really high. His work ethic absolutely is elite. Once he develops that man strength Nate Danielson could become a star.

GR, they just announce his name on the GR radio
Good to hear.
I wonder how serious his injury is.
If he's been injured that means no off-season training, so probably he starts Toledo to get in shape first. Then in December-January when Kasper/Mazur has been called up, Becher should be in shape and full of confidence, ready move up GR.

It wasn't even close to an awful preseason.
100%.

Perfect example of how fans and even media types these days, look at scoresheets to determine how good they think a prospect/player is. Ignoring what hall of Famers like Patrick Kane are saying about Danielson. Just not watching the games themselves either, where Danielson makes the right decisions 75% of the time already.

What’s funny is, if he had scored 2 empty net goals, those same stat-chasers would’ve been demanding he make the team.

99% of NHL players, have to adjust to playing against very skilled men. It’s night and day compared to Junior or college hockey. Danielson is far and away more ready than let’s say Kasper was, this time last year, and Kasper already played a season against men in Sweden. Same can be said of MBN right now. He and Danielson will be ready either later this season, or to begin next year. They’re two very high-end prospects.

It takes a minute before they’re going to just produce on the scoresheet in either league. For someone like Danielson, that’s gonna be around Xmas time this year. About 15-20 games in the AHL, we should see him getting pretty comfortable against men, and the stats should start coming. Then they can decide if he finishes the season in the AHL to gain confidence, or continues to develop in the NHL. Where his stats won’t be great this year, but the experience he’s gonna get, would be, heading into next season

Someone mentioned Cozens with Buffalo, as a comparison to Danielson, and that’s not a bad one at all.

To even more confuse some folks, are the players like Michkov let’s say. There’s little defense played in the preseason, and when very quick, skilled players have free space, they’re going to stand out. Then you watch him play a real game last night, and other than a couple of flashes when he had the puck in free space, he was non existent. Got pushed around a lot, had his stick knocked out of his hands 3-4 times. He was overwhelmed at times.

Nobody has any patience anymore with prospects.

3 points today from Kiiskinen, how do we feel about this guy? I've seen very little discussion and I need to know how to feel! This board is simply overwhelmed on quantity of quality prospects to track them all.

Agree with almost all of this. I think there are more people patient with prospects than is apparent in social media conversations hijacked by the need to express extreme opinions. You're familiar with and have contacts in the hockey world, I'm sure you know their view of Danielson for example is a lot different than that of some vocal and mostly uninformed fans.

Don't like the Cozens' comp all that much apart from obvious physical/skating similarities. Nate is probably among the world's best defensive C prospects and players generally develop into roles that reflect what they're best at. Not a lot of evidence he's gong to be a big producer in the NHL. His profile IMO is more similar to good defensive centers like Danault or William Karlsson, but we'll see.

Only answer is traditional finnish answer, "let's not make a number out of this".

Skelleftea loses 4-2 to Timra. I caught only the 3rd period

MBN SHL debut:
from what I saw he looks as advertised. Aware defensively. Great body positioning and picking up the puck off the boards and putting it on the tape. Great IQ. Almost labeled one top right corner from the slot- the goalie didn't see it but got a shoulder on it. Getting a couple looks with the 6 on 5 at the end. Whiffed on a one-time from the left flank and there was plenty of net to work with. Got another one-time chance from the slot and didn't get all of it. Trickled to another AIK player where just missed the net on a spinning opportunity. Seems that the coach wants to utilize him well in those opportunities and maybe a bit of nerves. I'm sure he will dial those in as he plays more games

ASP:
had an assist earlier on. Team spent a lot of time defending the rush and in their zone during the 3rd. He didn't stand out in any particular fashion. Had a long seeing-eye shot that the goalie managed to save

AIK had like over a minute of 6 on 5 zone time during the last few minutes and to me it looked like Pudas just had a shift before it, yet they appeared to have double-shifted him to play QB. Pissed me off cause ASP was fresh and would've been way more explosive for that entire shift. Pudas just wasn't quick enough nor a big threat

Edit: game score

Good start, already matched his point totals from last season.
It's Liiga though, I'm not too high on the level of that league.

ASP with a secondary assist so far in his CHL match.

Just got into a "fight". Don't think there will be any debating if he knows how to properly handle himself in a fight (no, he does not)

Edit: And a couple minutes after that incident, teams are playing 3 on 3. It is not overtime.
