I wouldn't be so sure about that.The Bad;
Any hopes of landing a Hagens/ Martone/Shaefer/Misa exit with Lalonde.
Incoming 8-10th overall pick yet again.

Should have been Gallant but at the end of the day, anything better than Lalonde.
I wouldn’t count Blashill as a knock on Yzerman but going back to back first time NHL head coach’s was a mistake with a young team in hindsight. A lot of its gotta be just leading a room. Imagine Lalonde getting in the centre of the room and demanding your attention. I don’t see itSecond coach Yzerman has fired.
There shouldn't be a third for most GMs before it's their turn.
I genuinely think MacLellan is a good coach and I’m very glad yzerman went with someone experienced.
That said, I feel weirdly pessimistic about this move.
While I don’t think Lalonde was the answer here, I think I would have preferred to ride that out.
Making a change like this suggest yzerman felt the team was underachieving and wants to push for playoffs. When I look at the roster, I’m not sure I buy that. I also think an “accidental” top pick would have done wonders for the rebuild.
It feels a little too panicky to excite me.
I guess we’ll see.
At this point we don’t want magic. We want to finish at the bottom but still at least have entertaining hockey. Those losses against Van and NJ were games I would love to continue seeing and still finish bottom 5.A change needed to happen. Let's see what Mclellan can do. I'm glad we're bringing in a guy with experience because two 1st time NHL head coaches in a row brings some lingering questions. I like Lalonde and think he shouldn't have much issue finding employment (albeit he may need to go back to an assistant role before getting another HC opportunity), but it's nice to have a coach with an established track record. I'm not expecting any magic being worked with the roster as it stands, but ideally we start seeing some systems that actually click and give this team some energy.

At the end of the day we're still icing Chiarot/Petry as our 2nd pairing.
Not expecting much.
Let's see what Mclellan does. Chiarot/Petry was Lalonde's doing.
I mean it doesn't really matter what McLellan does in that regard. It doesn't matter if it's Petry or Holl, both are a shit option for a 2RHD. Gustafsson is shit. Chiarot is usually shit. Yeah you can put Edvinsson with Petry to carry around his dead weight, but is that much better of an option?
Maybe you give Seider AlJo to drag around? Maybe? AlJo ain't good enough for that but he can probably be passable to get Edvinsson to carry Petry's dead ass.
After the performance in Montreal, the writing was on the wall for Lalonde. Just had to wait until after Christmas. Classy move by Yzerman.Christmas came a day late
Incredibly curious for the press conference
I liked Lalonde being hired initially, and love the idea of busting up the old boys club of NHL coaches. However, there was an interview early in his tenure that rubbed me the wrong way.
In that interview he mentioned that back in 2018-19 not being a fan of Kucherov at all and stated he didn't think the team could win with him. That told me this was a guy that didn't know how to handle star players or players that didn't fit his mold.
I became less and less a fan of Lalonde after hearing this interview.

Aggressive offensive zone forecheckAnyone know what systems Todd likes to run?
