Man, we are paper thin at C. We basically only have 3 natural ones and 2 more that can fill in. Don’t understand what Moose has done to be anything but a 4th liner. Right now he’s the Destroyer of Offense. Put Sprong with Veleno.

This is why, if we target anybody for a big trade, it should be Lindholm.

... But I also don't feel we should be sending futures out just yet.

Yep, you've gotta think a legit top six C is at the top of Yzerman's wish list. Maybe he can swing a trade for Lindholm and Hanifin.

The price would be absurd and I don't think Yzerman sees the team as being in the "Trade high picks or top prospects for rentals to go on a playoff run" stage of the game yet.

Debrincat's a bit of an exception because the trade cost was dirt cheap, he was RFA and wanted to play in Detroit, and he was only 25. Lindholm turns 29 this week and is an upcoming UFA.

LoL I had this discussion twice already over the last week around here .

You are correct, Ghost. We have endured pain for 7 years now. I’m not interested in taking on an imo anchor contract like Lindholm, 8.5x7, to rush for a playoff berth but shrink our window down the road at the same time. That would be a major mistake. We could be looking for a vet with 2yrs left as a placeholder. Don’t have anybody in mind tho.

Hanifin is interesting but probably too pricey. I’d be asking for Nurse money.

Generally I don’t want Stevie to make pricey moves to just get us to the dance. I want the right moves to ensure that we f*** the prom queen.

Our worst game of the season was probably the last game against these guys. Completely outmatched. Will be pleasantly surprised if we can compete against them this time around without Larkin.

The Rangers this year have been very impressive and organized. Unless we catch their backup goalie I don’t think this is going to be a great game for Detroit.

I hate to say it, but I’m expecting a loss here. I’m just hoping they can claw away at least a point.

Compher, Copp, Veleno, Rasmussen with Kasper, Danielson and Savage in the pipeline isn’t thin.

How many center groups are overall deeper than Detroit right now when healthy? I’d wager 10 or less.

The post was in response to Larkin being out, which suggests the conversation is an immediate need, so I wasn't considering prospects.

Compher/Copp is a beefed up depth, but if Larkin goes down it's a Top 2 C group that probably gets slaughtered.

I do agree that we're in a lot better shape prospect-wise, though.

Raz looked good at 4C, in fact the 4th line hasn't done anything except when he played 4C. Seems kinda obvious that's where he should be for now, agree with swapping him and Sprong who has looked good with Joey.

... but the practice lines are:

DeBrincat-Compher-Raymond
Berggren-Copp-Fabbri
Rasmussen-Veleno-Perron
Kostin-Fischer-Sprong

At least Burger will get a legit chance. He better play his ass off, and actually fight for the damn puck.

I mean, take out just about any team's 1C and they're going to have some centre depth issues.

I get to see the Shitrot and Putrid pairing live this game. But since the game's on TNT I'm glad I'm going to the game. Can't deal with that noise.

"Cookie jar staples include chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and peanut butter, but you may have had another old favorite in there - the Ranger cookie. The ingredients for ranger cookies include oatmeal, coconut, and Rice Crispies, and date back to the beginning of the last century. The Rangers we're visiting tonight don't include any oatmeal or coconuts but have indeed been fairly crispy their last few games. For their part, the Wings have added a new ingredient today to their recipe but don't expect their jar to be full for a few days yet."

- Plausible Keats

Not expecting the win without larks but hopefully the boys have a good night and Kane and Larkin have a good conversation in the box.

This board is quiet tonight. Too quiet.

A dark foreboding hangs in the still air; a palpable fear of the eldritch horrors that lurk within the Garden. A fear become existential by the knowledge that these men will walk into that hideous walled Garden without the most valuable member of their team.

I think if the game gets out of hand I'll re-read some Lovecraft. The Rats in the Walls maybe. More revisiting of things from my youth.
