And that's because it's so damn hard to win a Cup , so many things have to all come together plus you need everyone playing well not just one or two players .I think most on here understand that .
I'm a Jets fan so I'm not expecting a Cup. Just wanna get past the first round and I'm happy.

It was a bad faith question asked in a smarmy way. This isn't fun. God, you think this is fun?
You know you can logout of here any time you want, right?

I just don't get why they don't flip Nik and Gabe at the very least.
i love gabe's game, but he lacks juice. perfetti lacks it too, and namestnikov really doesn't have a lot of offensive creativity. i just don't see perfetti & namestnikov doing enough offensively to make that line effective tbh. they need an upgrade. i don't think a top-6 line can be formidable with either of those 2 being a line's 2nd best fwds given this year's level of play. 3rd best, yes.

some one earlier said the Jets have 4 top-6ers.... 3 of them are currently on the same line, and then the other one has a guy who has eclipsed 40 pts once in 12 seasons, and Perfetti as their running mates. maybe split to 2 and 2 :dunno:

I'm just going to stay consistent here on this. Jets have a good system but weak players-both mentally and physically. They are coach killers. I feel sorry for coaches who put in a good system and try to win consistently with boojum and duct tape. They had a fluky start to the season, but this team is doing what they always do - regressing and guaranteed to disappoint if they make the playoffs with an embarrassing and early exit. Have seen enough in the past to know and not be fooled again, LOL.
I know what duct tape is but what's boojum ? And looking at team's past seasons to be able to tell you what's going to happen in the future probably isn't wise. There are a number of teams that had bad playoffs before breaking through, it's a very hard trophy to win.

This team is really good when it plays fast.
We seem to be unable to play fast enough the last several games, almost like we played into the other teams hands.
We are getting badly outshot early in games and then end up chasing.
Almost like a tale of two seasons which we have seen before.
Is it the roster construction or are we too predictable and teams have us figured out?
Frustrating again.
It’s great to be in first place but it’s not looking like it is going to last.

Incredibly hard championship to win.

Yea that seems high to me based on our teams playoff struggles.
No doubt it is the hardest trophy to win and what team could they possibly beat in the first round?

Hey if this post gets enough likes consider it done
Do not go anywhere Whiteout. You are passionate with high expectations. Hoping for a first round win is what leaf fans celebrate like they won the cup!

I do think that you have to split up Ehlers and Perfetti at some point. Simply because they can't sustain zone time. A lot of one and dones, which is still good for xGoals.

The Jets, when they play their best, grind the shit out of the opposing d. Create line changes from possession, which increases scoring/penalty chances.

The Jets have taken away Lowry's effectiveness by having him play with guys who don't play Lowry's kind of game. Put him with Nino and Iafallo there's goals. With Appleton, he was scoring.

Namestnikov gets shit on a lot but the last goal the Jets score doesn't happen if he isn't moving his feet, attacking an area offensively that allows Ehlers to find open ice behind his play. Namestnikov doesn't make a lot of bad decisions on the ice, but he doesn't have the finish, I think that's a legit issue.

I'd still like to see a different winger there, whether it be Chibrikov, Nino, Iafallo before I write him off completely. If Perfetti isn't going to play center on this homestand then I think Perfetti and Ehlers should be split up as the next way to try to generate more secondary offense.

But I also think you have to balance offense with defense, and does Ehlers defend well in his own zone? I've seen some really nice plays from both Namestnikov and Perfetti in the defensive zone recently, in fact Namestnikov is not taking draws from being fearless, blocking shots. Ehlers is kind of soft, collapses off the boards, which makes it hard to put him with the big guns at times, when it is not offensive situations.

With Arniel I think you want the best GAA in the league, so it's defense first. Skill should generate offense. But grind also does. Maybe it's just the net drive and those 3 feet goals that are missing with Ehlers linemates.

Here is an unpopular thought. And just one I’ll throw out there.

I wonder if there is any line Ehlers can make it work with. He ends up trying to do everything himself which is great for his numbers, but, if you can’t find the pieces to build around him. Yes, he and everyone looked hot at beginning of season which made them have career years.

He was able to make it work with Schief, but, is upsetting your best forward worth it in the long run which might create divide on the team. The reason they are able to make it work is by making everyone happy and pulling together.
Does that second line look any better than the small sample size we had with Chib where the players were able to build off each other instead of lone-wolfing it.

Can the 8 million dollars he will cost be better spent elsewhere?

Yes he makes the pp click by playing the rover position is it possible to have someone else do the role well whether that’s in house or traded for piece?

I do think Ehlers is a hard player to read off. Some of his passes are mint, some of his passes are wild, like the no look ones into the feet, or an area. When he attacks he makes things happen because the speed backs off players. Against more physical defenses you might see him stay above the circles, and make other players drive for him.

You look at centers who haven't exactly succeeded with him, and there is Little, Hayes, Monahan, some pretty good players, who have succeeded without him.

I'd be scared of re-signing him only because I don't think Yager is the right kind of player to complement him, not a grinder, then what happens?

But I still like the guy, not many players can play the way he does at high speeds. He can replace KC when that line struggles, and that's a top 10 scorer he's replacing. Can also replace Valardi if the Jets want to change their look to a faster top line. So far neither move this year though has created results, and Ehlers/Perfetti is a - shot differential with Lowry, and - goal differential with two other centers.

I wonder about changing Nino and Perfetti in their spots. Appleton was a high ice guy on Lowry's line. And Perfetti seems comfortable there, though the speed is definitely not as good as Apples. With a net drive, maybe Ehlers and Namestnikov can create some tip in/greasy goals and use more space with their speed. Realistically Nino is outproducing Perfetti in a lower role, so that would be adding more offense.

I knew it was an unpopular position and it really depends on what we can get for him or use the money for.

The pp looks better with him and he can replace kc and Villardi, but, long term it upsets schief who wants to be the driver or hates the lone wolf stuff. To be fair he does less lone wolfing when playing on 1st.

Also, look at the great health kc has had. It’s great to have an injury policy, but, less useful if it’s expensive and it’s unlikely you ever use it. Schief,kc have also played with Iafallo who plays same role as Villardi you can also try Nino.
He doesn’t mesh great with perfetti, Perfetti and names have looked good without him.

I must have quite a few people on ignore here because I can't even tell what most of the discussion is about. It's a shame we've come to this, but here we are.
i like the idea of the ignore function, but it ruins the continuity of the discussion for sure and you miss out on a lot of context. also, threads started by the user disappear too.

Chiming in to agree with this 100%. I understand why people like the ignore function, but I feel like it harms more than it helps.

Okay, as bullied and promised, here is the 3 sentence non-story padded out. I'm no Ponds when it comes to sharing, but I did proofread and correct my spellings. Life is full of those "what would have happened if" moments. Here's the true version that we don't share with the grands, made as long as possible.

Many, many years ago, I was crossing Balliol College when a sudden downpour began, catching me unprepared with my umbrella rolled up in my briefcase. I rushed to the nearest building and stepped into a large doorway to take shelter and unfurl my brolly. A Google search will show how large most of the doorways are at Balliol.

Over the noise of the rain it took me a minute to recognize another sound at the far side of the alcove. I looked over into the dim area and caught a glimpse of a couple wrapped around each other like snakes and half their clothing askew. It was the 60s after all.

Being a proper gentleman -- to say nothing of really shy and gobsmacked -- I stared straight out into the rain until the breathing sounded like one of the parties was finished. Without looking, I was aware they had disengaged, rearranged their attire and were whispering to each other. I think I heard a kiss and then footsteps and a heavy door behind me opened and slammed shut.

I looked out at the rain and replayed with jealousy what I had partially seen. I thought they'd both gone inside so I was scared out of my wits when a voice literally at my ear said, "I'm on my way to the Bod." I looked sideways and was thunderstruck at the vision I saw.

First, she was beautiful with long blonde hair. Second, she looked me right in the eye, completely rare for me because I was 6'4". Her face was thin and elfin and her slightly open mouth was the sexiest thing I'd ever seen. After I'd stared in shock, she said "Are you going to be a gentleman and offer to share your umbrella?"

I mumbled agreement and we headed off, getting only as far as Blackwell's before we ducked inside to escape a renewed downpour. By then I'd found my voice and my courage and we chatted for the longest time. I don't think she ever made it to the library, but she did agree to meet for tea the next day. She was intrigued with me, we struck up a friendship, and soon I was dating the first girl who was almost the same height as me.

Three weeks later, she said she'd dropped her boyfriend. Four years later, we were married. Two years after that, we emigrated to Canada. About the same time that The Hollies sang about sharing a brolly. All that's coming up on almost 60 years ago.

What the grandkids seized on for the first time this year is that they only exist because of a sudden rain shower. Or if I'd been 30 paces further ahead and darted under a different cover. We never would have met, my life would have been completely different. You get to thinking about how something really tiny totally changes your life and what might have happened or not.

So that's the non-story like I said.

I have one of those "if things happened different" moments. Unfortunately mine was on the opposite side of the coin in that it ended horribly

Glad yours was a happy ending (no pun intended). Thanks for sharing.

If it ended horribly, then nobody should be forced to share.
Nobody should be forced to do anything at all. That's why I said no pressure. But, if it was a long time ago and a great story, they may have put enough emotional distance that it just becomes a great story. If I am wrong I apologize @GeorgeJETson
