Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Don't know what it means but OA to be dman Josef Eichler drafted today by the Lincoln Stars of the USHL in the 9th round of their 2nd draft.
The 1st draft of the USHL was held yesterday.

Let's say Kennedy and Eichler are both gone. That leaves...

Cristoforo
Woodall
Walton
Hicks
Robinson
Spicer (probably)

While this is a fairly solid group, getting either Kennedy or Eichler back would be a nice, physical bonus.

Neither clear front of net and arnt that physical..

Since Lincoln took Eichler in the 9th, it is more of a flyer pick. Not sure much can be read into it.

I don't think the Spits need both Kennedy and Eichler as OAs. I don't want an OA taking a minute of playing time from Hicks and Robinson. Those 2 are young but have tremendous talent.

Since Muskegon used Bergeron's signed tender as their 1st round pick, I don't see him here next year. However, that could change for 26-27. Over the past few years, the Spits have signed Protas, Ebert, Vail and Czinder from the USHL.

As far as Kennedy going to the NCAA, this is very late in the school cycle and committments for next year are usually completed by now. I see Kennedy returning as an OA and committing to an NCAA school during next season for 26-27.

In the Import draft, I see the Spits protecting Protas and drafting in the first 2 rounds of the import draft. Even though Protas's return is iffy, they need to protect him. If the don't, somehow he will be magically with London. LOL.

3 rounds. With likely protecting Protas to be safe, releasing Eichler is the smart move. Still gives us 2 rounds although selection spots are poor. 1st round 53, 2nd 114, 3rd 175. I assume there will less passes with 3 OAS now so moving up in round 1 is likely zero possibly in 2nd round.

you can keep eichler on a frozen list and not release him, not that i think they will keep him anyways. protas is signed so no issue, he goes on a frozen list as well. dont think either are back but you dont have to release them to get your 3 picks, they get them regardless.

They could actually trade up in the draft. Being they are a bubble go team another high end import would be a great move for them.

You may be right, now that I think of it. I believe you can carry more than 3 imports if they are an OA, an NHL 1st rounder or signed by the NHL (not sure of the 3rd one but will take your word fot it). I believe that a team has to be at 3 by the start of the season.

However, no matter what the rule, it would be a miracle to get anything of value in the late 3rd round.

That might be the best move but unless Bowler is deeply invested into the process I don't see how it changes. There's a myth that you can't get impact imports later on. Seattle drafted one 71st overall he came over in January. He's going to be an NHL 1st round pick. Spits could have taken him at 66th instead they stuck with Eichler. That's not a bad thing but this example 71st overall is playing 2 more years in the CHL. Eichler might not play a other CHL game. Move up is fine but prices are expensive look what Reichel did by consistently moving up.

I don't know anything about a "frozen list" I do know the CHL statement today says if you have 1 import you can draft twice and if you have 2 you can drsff once. Trades- I assume it must be within your own league obviously OHL with OHL.

From what I've learned on here there's a lot of rules that aren't published, likely because the average fan doesn't care, but I think overage, NHL signed or NHL 1st round picks are excluded from the limit of 3 imports.

Thanks. Just once I would as welll as many diehard OHL fans see all the rules regarding rosters/ cards/limits. Just once 😆 Protas fits that bill but Eichler does not. The OA thing is also an exemption? just wondering how can the Spits say draft 3 imports but say Protas and Eichler return. What happens to the 2 extra imports drafted? Doesn't make sense. Does the new rules trump this old unpublished frozen list exemption?

Safe to say Eichler is done. You can protect him but it wouldn't serve a purpose imo.

Protect Protas- doubtful he returns

Draft 3 imports 2F 1D. One can stay in Europe until January then bring him over.

you dont have to protect him, he goes to the overage list and is exempt from the 3 import rules until the season starts. it doesnt matter as i dont see him being an oa anyways.
