Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

The Spits dressed 6 08s last night and I did not see a weak spot.
That’s a crazy stat. Sure our Top Line is elite and may not return… but 1/3 of our lineup was 08’s. Gotta be the OHL record this season for first year eligibles dressed.

Garden, Hicks and Lemieux are getting a considerable amount of time out there as well. Robinson isn’t too far off.

Sure, there’s an offseason, a new draft class, an import draft, etc, but I have a hard time looking out at any of our dressed 08’s and going, “they’re expendable, we can upgrade them next year”

Also what was Ellinas’ deal with Joey. He chirped for a good 60 seconds after the goal. I get being fired up but am I missing some backstory here?

Wasn’t like he picked Joey apart and beat him with clean shots 4 times last night lol. He had a nice one timed tap in from the top of the crease, I’m blaming the D for. I just don’t see having that many words to say for a goalie who at that point had given up 3 goals in 3 games in the series.

FWIW, saw Spellacy, Mathurin and Winegard walking around the Aud. UBI Guys. Hopefully one, if not all will be back relatively soon.

I’m holding out hope for Mathurin, as that lengthy playoff run is looking likely at this point.

Davis going down sucks. He’s brought a lot of energy to this round.

Could use everyone back !

On Wednesday I imagine we’re looking at something like:
Greentree/Protas/Morneau
Nesbitt/Abraham/Garden
Lemieux/Gaymes/McNamara
Brocklehurst/Stewart

Christoforo/Kennedy
Walton/Hicks
Eichler/Robinson
Spicer

We’re missing Key Components here. We’re basically down our second line, and a top 2 defensive pairing.

Spellacy/Davis/Belchetz
Mathurin/Woodall

We’re still playing great, but my concern lies with secondary production. If Greentree/Protas get shut down last night, we got nothing.

Our third line, is basically our 4th line. We’ve been playing a well structured game, and I’m hoping that the pressure of being down 0-3 causes Kitchener some frantic play Wednesday and the Spits can capitalize, have a week off, and hopefully get one or two bodies back.

Our depth HAS been great so far, and shown up… but we’re running thin. I’d have to imagine Winegard returning to the lineup would be an on-ice upgrade over a Stewart or our 7th 08’ in the lineup.

Loved seeing Spicer mix it up at the end of the last game. Big body, a bit on the light side but he’s 16. One of the few “expendable” pieces we could send out there to mix it up right now.

Hoping to see a clean, desperate Kitchener team, not an aggressive “let’s take them out” team tomorrow night.

Is anybody heading to the Aud tomorrow? I know a single ticket isn’t that attractive, but I’ve got one behind Parsons tomorrow night, I’d love to give away to someone wearing a spits jersey.

Sorry to see 44 missing from the list. He can do most things well., and plays tons of minutes. Size must have held him back. It will help when he grows 4 inches this summer!

Just look at that for a line....Spellacy/Davis/Belchetz. That would be at top line on most teams !!

London is rolling on Erie. Could be game 1 round 3 early next week. Depends on whether league wants weekend games in London or Windsor.
Both teams need to win 1 more game. League has set rules on start and finish dates for each series. Has to line up eventually with the Memorial cup dates. I believe it is spelled out on the ohl site.

Wondering if Spellacy would be back for the 3rd round. He missed the last 3 games of the 1st round, came back for game 1, and hasn't played since. Has anyone heard anything on his injury? Haven't even heard them describe his injury as day to day or week to week.

Probably not going to see anyone else back for 3rd round which is a big downer, unless there is a huge surprise. That means no Belchetz, Woodall, or Mathurin. Hopefully, Costello and Davis are back. This round isn't done yet though.

The fuel is the rash of injuries. The 08s have been spectacular. All have something to prove. Considering Windbiel is another 08, good grief Bowler slammed the draft last year. One more win, always the toughest not easy and thrre won't be a need to fire up the team for London

Let's not forget Belchetz also is an 08 born player, that's 8 players signed from that draft, plus would not surprise me if a couple more from that draft are signed RW Nicholas Rosati, Center Ryan Cranny, dman Drake Gram ,dman Sam Wathier, though Wathier has another year with US Development Team ,could see 3 of them signed.

Shocked as anyone. Honestly i didnt see this coming but here we are. Team is playing extremely well, young guys are stepping in seamlessly. Very tough road with so many injuries. Kudos to all. If i may….id like to see a bit more scoring from others, it matters for matchups. Let’s finish this series before we discuss the green team. Be real nice to do it tonight for some rest and injury avoidance lol.

I totally concur, we have a long road ahead to just finish this series. 60 more miles to go tonight alone !
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, the job is not complete here. We need a HUGE EFFORT tonight to finish what we started. Championship teams close the deal.

Tonight will be interesting. I hope Windsor doesn't let off the gas. Get this series over with tonight and recoup for whoever we face next. Other semi-unrelated notes:

- I saw on Elite Prospects that Mathurin commited to UMass-Lowell allegedly. Good for him if true.
- I absolutely agree on our 08's they are playing very well. Seems that the 2024 draft really did pay off well.
- The U18 draft is tonight as well. We have picks 18, 38 and 58. Hopefully we go F then G then D. One of each would be nice.

Go Spits Go! :)
