Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

This is probably the most nervous I've been about a game all playoffs. I'm 100% fine with them at home but, on the road, especially in Kitchener, it's rough. Get the split, at worse, and do what's needed. If Kitch sweeps at home, this thing is likely going seven.
If we play the way we have been playing, super tight defense , keeping their shots from the perimeter and burying our chances I think we can beat this team in any rink.

I’m excited for it. Making my first trip to the Aud.

A lot more to lose for Kitchener than Windsor.

Windsor wins tonight 3-0, and miracles happen, but I don’t think against this current team. I see the Spits the least likely team in the conference to blow that lead.

Kitchener wins tonight, Spits can still split and come home 3-1.

I know playoff money, is free money, but if my Friday Night becomes free, I’ll have no problem finding something else to do.

A win tonight, breaks Kitcheners heart. A loss tonight, still puts us in position to come home 3-1
Now if we lose tonight, yeah, I become a bit nervous for Wednesday.

Tonight? I’m not opposed to an open, unstructured game. I doubt it happens, but if we play pond hockey and get into a shoot out with the Rangers, I don’t think we’ll lose it.
Agreed with all points and I'll still say compared to Flint, this series has been tame when it comes to "intent to injure" incidents - from both teams.

Decide where you're eating? Enjoy your trip to the aud, just hope the scoreboard isn't friendly 😉

The hit by Swick was brutal. It was intent to injure. Should be suspended. He specifically targeted Cristoforo's head, and he might not play in this one. I'll be surprised if he plays this week.

Hlacar gets one game. This is his 3rd suspension in the past month. Hmm, dude is just head hunting and the league doesn't care, what a joke.

Deliberate run from behind and also high to the head area from a repeat offender who is nothing more then a role player/Goon. It was no accident or slowing down. So green light from the OHL, 1 game for that is nothing so when these games get worse, it will be on the player safety department.

As others mentioned hope to see no injuries tonight and a hard effort. Not sure on any additional injuries but hope we get some guys back soon.

Over these Rangers already with their antics the first two game. Hope the boys are angry and ready to take it out on the scoreboard to put a strangle hold on this series, let's silence the Aud tonight.

Go Spitfires!!

Cristo is a tough kid, he might not drop the mits or throw the smashing hits but his games played speaks volumes to his character. It would take a lot to keep him out.

I'd love to know the explanation as to WHY it's only one game. If you go from five games to one, there's a reason.
If I’m not mistaken, part of the five games in March was because he was a repeat offender.

As I said on the Ranger board, it couldn’t have been that bad or the suspension would have been longer.

One game to appease the on ice officials who deemed it worthy of a major.

Hey, Hlacar is one of those depth, energy players who walks the line and stumbles over it on occasion. Historically, it’s a lot easier to throw the book at a player like this than if it was a star player.

Make no mistake, if the hit in question was comparable to the one in March, the league throws the book at him.

I just saw the replay on IG - he came straight in and hits Davis in the head, who then goes down like a sack of potatoes. There was zero need for it as Davis had gotten rid of the puck. You could have hip or even shouldered him and likely done less/no damaga. Normally, I'd say "Yep, one game, just doing it for the optics" but... this wasn't a great hit.

Costello is out with Woodall, Belchetz, Spellacy, and Mathurin. Cristoforo is playing. Games like this, which should be physical, are where Belchetz and Spellacy are missed.

Next man up, lets go Spits. We have a ton of depth.
They have 2 top lines and a bunch of rookies for lines 3 and 4. 4 D and some rookies mixed in. Not a "ton" of depth at this point. But their top lines are as good as any in the league. It just becomes line management for the coaching staff to avoid burn out. They have managed to make it work with home ice, tougher to do on the road without last change.

It will rear its head in a long series. The more players are overplayed it's a known fact the higher risk of injury especially muscle & ligament tears and ever bone stress fractures. Their young and eager but not benign to this.
