Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

3rd round - Ty Bergeron. Big center, 6'2 180 or something. Out of Honeybaked. 46/61/107 in 69 games. The issue - he just signed a tender with Muskegon a day or two ago.

Hoping it's a im not signing in the OHL unless it is team A or B and Hoping Windsor is team A

Well the scrubs beat them twice this season so what's your point?
You guys lost a game to us by a score of 12-2 do you really want to bring up the regular season? Let me guess, they had the flu bug, right? It's called the Spitfire flu, and it happens a lot apparently.

Looking at the Windsor Star...

McLaughlin - considered a top-10 pick before his injury. He's back skating now, which is a good sign. He's eager to come to Windsor and show them their gamble was worth it.

Inskip - He met with Windsor a few times and, like the Spitfires, he plays a big, physical game. Bowler called him a power forward.

Bergeron - Appreciative, "flattered", but "take it one day at a time." Didn't comment on next season beyond "one day at a time and focus on my development." This might take a bit of a sell.

Bowler likes his character kids and all three were captains for their team. Lots of skill, lots of speed, physical... wait and see.

Solid first three rounds but as always time will tell on the development side and how these young guys transition. Never have too many Centers, teams that win championships are always strong down the middle so nice to pick up a few in the early rounds with higher end potential. Now hope he branches out and picks up a few d in the next few rounds before picking up a few wingers and maybe another goalie prospect in the pipeline. Excited for the rest of this draft to see who the spitfires pick up or potentially steal in the later rounds.

But honestly I'm already ready for the main event tonight. Big game 2 to keep our home ice before heading up the 401 for game 3. Rangers are a few main guys down like the spitfires, but the spitfires hopefully come out prepared for a better overall Rangers squad and a top notch Parsons because you would think their coming out harder which means Windsor has to match that and bring it up another notch as well. Joey so far in these playoffs has been playing up to his potential and what we know he's capable of. Our star players were just that in game 1 and throughout these playoffs so far, just hope thay can keep it going and stay consistent.

Go Spits Go!!!!!💯

Bowler wouldn't say anything bad..

I know absolutely zero about any of the players drafted today ( or yesterday) but welcome to Windsor!
I will leave it up to management to decide who makes the team and after 10 games or so into the regular season I will likely start with my comments.
Do have to say though with a name like Gunner Wolf I hope he gets some games in but already a log jam in net. Maybe 2 years from now?

I know a bit about the first three guys - all were captains, McLaughlin is smaller with great offence and recovering from a knee injury, Inskip has good size, power forward, offensive ability, and Bergeron is big and offensive but tendered with Muskegon so may be a sell job.

Spits with their 15 selections picked 2G,7D and 6F.
A bit of a surprise 1 player actually was an 08,in other words a 17 year old,in fact said player is an American born p.layer from PA,taken in the 5th round at 102,Caden Harvey a right shot Center had 95 points in 48 games including 47 goals.
3 American born players were selected in this draft including Harvey,Ty Bergeron a Center and Kaden Rolling a D.
Good to see a couple local kids selected both Luke StJohn from Windsor and Amherstburg born Jordan Maine dmen who play with an edge, with good offensive skills especially St John who scored 15 goals to go along with 14 assists.
Looking forward to seeing them at rookie camp when it is scheduled.
Meant to add re Harvey he had 2 points in 3 games with a team in the USHL this past season, funny last player we had who played in that league was Protas last year and he had 51 points in 61 games and we saw what he did this year lets hope Harvey if here this coming season replicates Protas lol.

Harvey intrigues me. Feb. 08, so it wasn’t like he has a late birthday. Also slipped to the 5th round here. I wonder if the Spits know something, someone else didn’t, got a loose commitment or something.

Hope these kids get an invite out to see the team and the WFCU during playoffs. I remember we had that 06’ draft class visit, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with Christoforo, Greentree, and Spellacy.

Should be a fun one tonight. As mentioned, would be great to keep home ice in our favor.

He's USNTDP bound, from what I can tell, with a commit to Penn State. It would be nice but I'm not betting on it (esp with USNTDP).

From what I understand, several of the kids including McLaughlin and Inskip were going to be at the arena today.

Would be nice to see Nesbit in a fight were he doesn't fall on his ass!! ...Please tell me that Hlarcar head check was a match penalty!!

Another great victory. Scoreboard these first 2 games are not indicative of the overall games . Tighter than the scores. Costanzo is whipping Parsons in net. I also credit the Spits playing tighter defense than I thought was possible. Great start to the series utilizing home ice advantage. Need to go into Kitchener and play the same if we get past the Rangers and no, the series ain't over yet, need to play and win on the road vs London. I am not putting the horse ahead of the cart, make those good habits now GO SPITS GO !@

Ok so another real nice win! Kitch your better than the head hunting BS your going with! Refs havent been horrible BUT someones gonna get seriously hurt!!! Although weve got 2 out with broken bones already!!!! Refs MUST contain the shit thats going on!! Its plainly obvious that its no longer hockey but attempt to injure to get the edge. Disgusting and disappointing, i really thought the league was better than this. Hell im old school, ya want that? Then let the teams know so they can dress the appropriate players. A real bad injury is coming and its not just the spits but its going on it many of the games. We could be down 6 regulars!!! Yes the check on davis was a suspension. We even had kitch fans all around us that were disgusted by the dirty plays all night long.
Ok rant over. Lets see who is healthy enough to dress Monday in kitch and hope we can repeat the effort.

Hopefully Christoforo and Davis are okay, good to see them both back out there at least, hope they’re okay and can dress Monday.

In the first two games at home, I feel the Soo played us better. Soo were playing smart, chippy, physical hockey. Nothing says you can’t skate up to the goalie two seconds after the whistle and stand at the top of the crease, unwritten rule? Sure. But you’re not being penalized for it. Drop a few goals and go for the head on some of the smaller guys, you’re risking going down more.

I feel the Spits shy’d away from some of the rough stuff in Round 1 just due to the number of bodies we had. I feel that’s about where Kitchener should be. They get Ellinas back in Game 3, but would not be surprised if Hlecar gets two for his hit on Davis.

Not much of a go, and not well at that, but good for Nesbitt standing up for his teammate. Leadership trait.

What are the odds of that 08’ American we drafted today sliding into the lineup before our playoff run is over? Lolz

Anyone have insight on returns? Spellacy? Woodall? Winegard? Belchetz? Mathurin?

Spellacy UBI Day to Day?
Woodall No Clue
Winegard Broken Hand, any chance to return? Could be as short as a month depending on the brake.
Belchetz LBI, any time line to return?
Mathurin was, “maybe in a deep playoff run”

Not counting any chickens before they hatch, but I consider a long Playoff run, the Conference Finals… which if so, maybe if we make the next round?

Liked Spicer going to throw the hip check in this one. Looked a little nervous with the puck/outlet passes, but such a small sample size. Rough time of year to play your first OHL Game, I don’t blame him.

I love our D right now, playing great, smart hockey. But no room for injuries/penalties with just the 6. Woodall and Mathurin are large pieces missing. Could be Christoforo too… that’s debatably our Top 3 D Men from this season.

A split in Kitchener would be huge, ideal, and I see as highly possible with how this team looked Games 1 & 2. Monday becomes pivotal.

Coming back with 3 wins would make me comfortable, but if we can pull that W in Kitchener off Monday, all the better, amp up the pressure.
