That’s what I thought of as well. Like no disrespect, but is a 50% Greentree going to produce better than an Alec Stewart for example? Sure. But, if Greentree plays game 5, does that set him back for 6/7?
I wondered with the reports of him being “ill” during game 4 were just that.
The mentality of, let’s Win this one, then there’s a week off to recover. You don’t get the result you want, then things get a bit iffy.. now you have to rest and need close to a full recovery to go again.
I wonder that about tonight too. Spellacy and Davis are close. Greentrees a maybe. Do you push them back tonight to try and finish the series on the road? Or, give em an extra 48 hours and try and dress them all on home ice?
I don’t like putting all the eggs in the Game 7 basket.
I have no idea who’s pulling the strings. And maybe it’s different for each player. NHL Team, Agents, Coaches, Parents, … Ownership?
If we win game 4, we’re only guaranteed 2 more home games as we’re losing home ice for the conference finals. If we take this one to Game 7, we still get those two home games.
If we win, it guarantees us 4. I’m not saying that ownership would rather see a Rd 2, Game 7 loss, vs a 4/5 Game loss in the Conference finals…
But there’s no new banner, and almost any Game 7 will sell more tickets than a Game 3 or 4, especially if down in the series.
From a business perspective, Extra Home Games = Extra Money. If a Game 7 is forced and I’m ownership, I’m calling every agent, and NHL club personally. Win a Game 7, that leads into a Conference Final with London…? We’re looking at 2-3 Sell Outs. Ideal scenario.
Casual fans are showing up to watch a Game 7, likely without the backstory of “Half of our Starters are out”.
I heard spits haven’t lost more than 2 in a row this season… I haven’t checked it, but provides an interesting dynamic tonight.
I’m not hopeful, but optimistic. We need a young 2nd/3rd line Guy to have a career night. Nesbitt. Garden. In addition to some support from Morneau/Abraham and the back end.
Protas is a monster, but can only do so much.
What’s crazy, is with a much more depleted roster, Greentree/Protas/Morneau have already exploded beyond what Wright/Harrison/Maggio were able to do, in a much more “expected” season.
Proud of what this team has done, but I want
More hockey. Go Spits Go.
