Windsor Spitfires 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iv

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Just acknowledging the Spits great regular season this year 96 points 52 points more then last year when the finished 19th of 20 teams, this year they have the 3rd best record in all the league,1st in their division, 2nd in the conference, 3rd most goals in the league,309,1 of 3 teams with over 300 goals for London and Saginaw the other 2.
As for goals against last year 360,this season
223.
45 wins this year,19 last year.
Most improved team besides Windsor so far Barrie 60 points last year,86 this season and Niagara last yr 42,this year 66,though they have had a bad 2nd half.
Shout out to forward Noah Morneau only player for Windsor to have played all 68 games, and he finished with 73 points ,32G,41A and showed tremendous leadership great 15th round selection by Bill Bowler 5 years ago.
Will write about other team and player accomplishments prior to the playoffs just wanted to get this in.
The real fun is about to begin, need to keep the foot to the pedal at all times, continue to play for each other, take nobody for granted, put the work in and hopefully continue their successes

After reading this I had to go back…
Oddly enough, 45 wins this year, 44 in 21/22 and 22/23. Walters sits above Savard in single season Wins.

Flints a closer trip for the team, and it’s an easy commute for me to make every game, so I’m selfishly hoping for Soo to hop em. However, I do think Soo is the better matchup for the Spits.

The scary stat I think of is, with the exception of 21/22… the Spitfires haven’t won a playoff series since 2011.

Since then, we took round 1 to 7 Games in 2017, and took the Championship to 7 games in 2022.

I’m approaching the playoffs with cautious optimism. Realistically, I think getting deep (6/7 games) into Round 2, is a safe goal for getting this group playoff experience.

Our OA’s I feel have been much more noticeable as of late/post deadline. Hoping for a good send off for Morneau & Abraham.

Injuries:
Mathurin: Shoulder - Hopeful Round 2?
Lemieux: Any Info?
Belchetz: Leg - Any guesses?
Outwater: 🫡
Also Greentree and Woodall return from Suspension. Protas and Christoforo slot back in.

Spits were pretty dominant against the SOO this season, going 4-1-1. In the regulation defeat, they only gave up 20 shots. Outscored the Hounds 28-15.

It won't necessarily be easy. They have scoring threats, Mignosa, Allard, Nordh, Martin, Cloutier, but the depth drops quickly. Spits scored 90 more goals than the SOO.

Soo's biggest weaknesses are Special Teams and Goaltending.
Goaltending (OA Lalonde - 3.30 GAA and 0.888 SV%) = BUT - Mem Cup winner with Sag in 24
Too aggressive on the PK (lots of SH goals but 18th ranked PK)
Too much perimeter play on PP (16th ranked PP)
Watch out for Chase Reid (rookie d-man) point per game player.
Best Overall Player - Brady Martin

Both Spits goalies sv% has not been good over the past 15 games other than Joey pitching a shutout his last gamr but still only 83% past 6 games. I'd say Lalonde proven playoff experience has an edge. Soo 5th least penalized team but has the most bench minors in the league by alot. 32. If tge Soo maintains their discipline and cuts out the 1 per 2 game bench minors, that keeps the Spits potent PP chances down. You mention Soo shorties thankfully we only gave up 2 all season. The Spits are vulnerable to aggressive point attack during 5 on 5 due to pinching D.allowing odd man rushes. The other Spits weakness are blocking out players from our crease and overall tendency to come out dead flat for 1 period most games.

Windsor using same slogan again this playoffs as they have used in past few years.
Pr department must not be busy or have any ideas..

Windsor- Soo goaltending is a wash. Neither bring good numbers. This is a series where Spits can out score their issues in net. Windsor with top 5 point producers will test Soo's D and goaltending. Soo has some threats up front for sure but not as strong in their own end.
i like Brady Martin's game . He will be a thorn in the Spits side.
in the end it would take a huge collapse for Spits to lose this. Tell me when that has ever happened, gulp.
be safe.
