It's not that Greentree has been underperforming points wise. He's been great. The issue to me is he still tries thd exact same dangle tryjng to maneuver through 2 opposing players and gets stalled or turns it over. His will to make good plays is there but his offensive thought execution often leads to making bad decisions. His defensive play during 5 on 5 frankly is not good at all. His skating is average? for a first rounder NHL. He will be returned next year. Now if Spellacy had Greentree's shot, he'd be NHL next year. Before anyone gets their knickers tied in a knot, look at it from a neutral perspective and not being a homer. 66 is a great player and stoked to have him but needs work to be NHL ready. This is a development league at the end of the day.

Greentree is trying to find that balance between doing it all himself and using his teammates who are very capable of producing, which wasn't the case last season. If you asked me a few weeks ago if he was slumping, I would have said yes. He had two points in six games or something for one stretch. Now, 10 points in his last four indicates it's turning around. If he can continue to utilize those around him and not try to dangle through everyone every time, he'll be just fine (though, OHL next season).

Greentree is third in points, it's hard to criticize the guy, He just tries to deke past everyone at times and loses it. If he could distribute the puck a bit more instead of holding onto it, he'd probably have more points. Spellacy has the speed, but he's nowhere close to being able to play at the next level. I expected more offense from him.

Anyways, Bowler is not going to trade Protas, zero chance, he's the best playmaker on the squad. They need to win the division and win a few rounds. I can see trading Abraham for picks and using those picks and some of their own to acquire a player who will be back next season.

Greentree was never going to get invited. Still pretty slow and although he is great- he’s not great enough to get a top 6 invite yet this year.

Not even the best player snubbed from it- Beckett Sennecke who had 4 goals and 2 assists yesterday and could’ve probably potted another 2 was snubbed too. One of those moments where he’s good but not good enough

List might be a little different for LK as they would be ok with a one and done type, aka Gibson but although he is good not really going to fit WS window next year.

Ideally I think LK looks for a 2 year add on D if possible as both current top D probly aren't here next year leaving them thin.
Perfect scenario for LK is a 2nd pair RD who returns next year.
Second is a RD who is 1 and done as it should be a go for year,, but that leaves next year in a tough spot. Maybe BB makes that big move as he did in the past..
It'll be interesting to see how both GMs navigate their position and attempted asset acquisition. I know who I'll bet on.

I guess if your perspective is " is Greentree a solid OHL player" then yes he's one of the best points wise. If you look at it is he going to be an NHL player, idk. Will he put up alot of points, absolutely but the list is long of big point OHL guys that never play a game at NHL level. Is Greentree good enough to make a top 6 position in NHL? No he will not be able to deke his way thru at that level. His skating needs work, his passing while skating is below average, his one timer is horrible, and he isn't winning puck battles. Worst of all from an LAKing perspective he isn't working on the things he needs too but leaning into his strengths. As a bottom 6 nhler, no way, his defense is bad and hasn't shown good decision making. Do I think he is a bad player, absolutely not but I don't think he is progressing anymore.

Same could be said for guys like Spellacy, Davis and others. They are doing what they need to to be successful at this level but not working on what will get them to next level. The end to end rushes are great for highlights and goals but won't help them get there. The coaches have some say in that as well. I feel we are back looking like we have Maggio/Peer on this team and what kind of playoff success did we have then.

I agree with most of this assessment except maybe Spellacy to degree. Hard for him to improve say his one timer or open for s shot playing on second line with no one on the team can keep up to him speed wise. Liklely why he looked so good in NHL camp.

Didn't mean to lump Spellacy and others in the Greentree category more or less trying to say this style of game, more run and gun and less puck possession, isn't helping players like Spellacy and Davis grow their game, although I do think as you go down the lineup the better "team orientated" the play is.

GM's have an additional challange beginning this season. If you trade for a player anticipating that he will be around for his OA season, he may decide to forgo his OA season and committ to an NCAA program.

Rock & Hardplace
So this professional couch GM has put together a list of potential targets for Bowler. The criteria being they are a defenceman, either an 05 or 06 that fits the Spits window and on a team that is likely going to sell.

Petes- Strohack 06, Jenkins 05
67's - Mews 06, Marrelli 06, Brady 06
NB - Kennedy 05, Turley 06, Ride 05
Sudbury- Ewles 05, Bruce 06
Gue - topp 06, Allen 05, Haley 05
OS - Rogers 06, Bedkowski 06, Petrouski 05
Sar - Young 05, Fischer 06, Omeri 06
Flint - Mania 05
Soo - Gibson 05, McConnell- Barker 06
Sag - Bishop 05, Glavin 06, Parekh 06, Guo 05.

Now some of these really are most likely a 1 and done player like Gibson so don't really see him as a potential target but he meets the criteria for the list. Some of these guys are key to their team and are more than likely not available anyway re - Fischer. So I've narrowed it done to who is really a bonified option for the Spits.

Brady- 67's
Kennedy, Ride - NB
Ewles, Bruce- Sudbury
Topp - Gue
Rogers, Petrouski - OS
Young, Omeri- Sarnia
Mania - Flint
Bishop, Glavin - Saginaw

And of course we all know that it will be someone completely off this list.
It may very well be a forward or even potentially a goalie so as usual Bowler surprise me, lol.

I've tried to guess who might be offered up to potentially go the other way but that seems like a short list to me and really not knowing who may have asked for a move makes it hard. Thoughs?
Be safe.

I agree and they were trading partners last year so they seem to be able to work together.

I was just going to say, we just passed the one-year anniversary of the big Christo/Dio trade with them.

That said, I appreciate the list of potential trade pieces and I can take a longer look when I have a chance later today.

That's still up in air who did well with that trade.
