From an off-ice POV, the trip is incredibly fun. I've done it a few times and enjoyed almost every second of it (had phone issues in Sby long ago). The hockey can be stressful, regardless of how talented the Spitfires are, so take the points and run.
Made this trip a few years ago but it was a 3in3 with it ending in Owen Sound on the Saturday night. It was a tiring trip as a fan. Gives you some insight into how tough it is on the players to make these trips and also play 3 intense hockey games.

They mentioned last night Bowler was making the trip. Wonder who he is looking at?

Have to imagine it’s to look at Musty and in-person talks with Sudbury. I hope I’m wrong, but it makes the most sense.

I hope we don’t blow up next year at this years deadline. But. There’s a chance we lose: Spellacy, Protas and Greentree, in addition to Morneau, Mathurin and Abraham.

The 3 OAs are fillable spots next year, I think Mathurin is the most valuable. However, those other 3? To have them graduate and not have a go? I think Bowlers making the jump.

A bit off topic, but I was browsing post game photos and realized I don’t notice any mouth guards aside from Greentree who just had his teeth knocked out. I remember guys being assessed penalties for chewing on em/not wearing em properly.

Did I miss something on the ruling of it?

They just amp up the head checks and deem them not necessary? Better helmet protection? Could argue they switched to “clear” but… looking closely, they don’t have anything there.

Not really important, was just curious if a public ruling was made and when, as I’ve just noticed this. Could’ve been years ago, I just remember the silly penalties, and now I don’t see them at all.

You see them skating around with the guard hanging out of their mouth. Not enforced much but should be.

From NB, I'd be looking at Bronson Ride, that big veteran Dman who's developed a solid snarl.

Sudbury, has to be Musty and maybe even DeAngelis. That would obviously take far more work to get done but....

Soo, Andrew Gibson maybe?

Not sure how DeAngelis was while in Windsor prior to coming to Sudbury but he has developed into a true Pro and may be our best overall player.

He was a big part of the club. From what I understand, Sudbury approached Bowler, they came to an agreement that Bowler couldn't refuse including the young player and plenty of picks (the Spits' cupboard was bare), and the rest is history. Given it's been 13+ months now, a move could include DeAngelis, though there would be several moving parts given he's an OA.

Not sure what his future is but he will help a contender on a run!! Not sure what direction the Wolves will be taking at the deadline..??

Spellacy has a lot of talent but it's still that. He's not at the level of being able to play in the NHL. He will improve this year but he actually looked better last year taking his injury into consideration. If the goal is the NHL at 19 he's not close.

To be honest I think Spellacy and Greentree will be back next year. Both great talents just need more time. Protas will be in the AHL.

My thoughts exactly. Not knocks but realistic. Spellacy needs work on finishing and better hands and Greentree needs to make better decisions, play both ends better and try to improve foot speed. The NHL today is a different beast. Well rounded play is a must or you'll rot in the minors.

I dislike trying to bring back guys after the Zito ordeal. Keiran Walton is who I’d be eyeing. Just above a point a game, 06’, brother of Connor, 6’6”. Would add some solid depth. I don’t love the all in approach, so I’m moreso looking at what can we get that will be back next year, while adding some depth and chipping in a bit this year.

I like our OA group. I think Mathurin has to stay, Morneau I think is worth more to the team than in a trade, and if Abrahams production can be matched, I’m not opposed to a swap, but a Michigan kid, who’s played his whole OHL career here, a move to me doesn’t make sense.

Really depends on Bowlers deadline approach, but I’d rather add improved depth, then going out and picking up that one forward who sends us over the edge…

Unless it’s Michael Misa

One bad hit from Eichler isn't good. Two bad hits is just undisciplined.

I hope he doesn’t make it yet… but the possibility of him moving on before September isn’t at 0%. Likely he’s back? Sure. Guarantee? Far from it.

I think this is the most likely situation.

Makes you wonder then… do you move Protas? Could probably bring back a quality 07’ and a couple picks…

To be honest I think he is frustrated with his own teammates. He just wants to get them going and this team doesn't go until they start hitting. Too many soft starts , becoming a cancer for this team. Some of these players are seeing that.
