I want to see Onuska buckle down like last year playoffs before I pull the trigger on a blockbuster type trade to add. Numbers less than average so far. Maybe Costanzo seizes the crease by Christmas if this keeps up.
Onuska been fine.
Need some d to help out..

WINDSOR
Solid game tonight, quick start. Onuska much better game. Keep racking those points. Meidema is starting to show some emotion and improved toughness in his game. Effort every game slowly improving. Kid still only 17 getting used to that big frame. He is on pace to better Cuylle's second season. Smith real solid recently. Glad he is back.

Nice, another win. Is Savard the most effective coach we've ever had? When we've won in the past it has always been because the talent level was far and away superior to the rest of the league. Boogie, Rocky, and even Tom Webster had some world class depth of talent when they were winning. With Savard however, all the winning these last two years has been accomplished with teams that don't scream powerhouse when you look at them on paper. Just browse the OHL prediction threads this year and last to get a sense of how most posters think our team isn't very good until the games actually get played. It's gotta be the coach, right?

Now in all fairness the special teams do need improvement, but most of the other things you want out of a coach this guy knocks it out of the park. The style of play is fast paced and exiting to watch. The young players all show development and improvement. The way he handles players is superior, as evidenced by the way Medina went from the press box to contributing as a playoff hero last year. Oh yeah, there's also all that winning. This guy really is the best we've ever had. Ok, I'm done slobbering now.

Some thoughts on this one...

- 5-3 final. Not the prettiest ending and they knew it but it's a nice two points.
- Sting were short on D with just five dressed.
- Gaudreau could fetch them a fortune if they dealt him in January.
- Savard has found lines that work; Abraham/Maillet/Maggio, plus Smith/Peer/Christo seem to have great chemistry. Don't fix if it's not broken.
- Onuska with a nice rebound game. He's not flashy but doesn't always need to be.
- Lots of rough stuff in this one. Again, glad to see everyone joining in and helping others out. The one thing that caught my eye - Daviault trying to get Maggio to go, who had no reason to oblige (why would he?). But, when O'Flaherty tries Daviault, there's no interest from Daviault. If you're going to do that, you can't be picky. Daviault did similar last season; was all over Cuylle who finally had enough and dropped him. At least Abraham is willing to go...
- As I stated above, Greentree caught a shot above the knee. He was down, couldn't get up... tried another shift later but went off right away. Sounds like it's nothing serious; some ice and see if he can go on Saturday.

Only 4D played for Sarnia. Mast was listed but didn't play along with Romeo, Dillingham, Hoover. All 4 are regulars & eat big minutes.

Doesn't take away that yall r rolling. Impressive how well all 4 lines r playing up front for u guys.

When I thought about it after, I didn't remember seeing Mast out there but figured I had just missed him. Is he injured, too, or other stuff going on?

Honestly no clue. He was listed in the lineup then didn't dress. Could be anything. Sick, hurt in warmup, maybe got hurt last night & was a GTD no clue.

We r pretty screwed with those guys missing haha. Was hoping we could draw within 1 point tonight but now u guys may widen the gap pretty good if they r out.

Great squad u guys have. Good luck the rest of the way.

Another game, another victory in the books. I thought the reffing was poor, felt like Sarnia was on the PP half the game. Anyways another dazzling performance from Peer. Hard to believe he went from an undrafted walk on to one of the best players on the team. Some players just develop at different times I guess.

Another player who is producing but isn't mentioned a lot is Maillet. He's on pace for about 88 points. Hebek had his best game of the season. Sobolev was clearly missed in Erie, he is the ideal stay at home defenseman every team needs.

You guys have a really good team. I know you were missing a few d-man today but Sarnia's time to win a few playoff rounds appears to be here. Best of luck.

I'd like to think we are due... haha. You guys will be an awfully tough out. Especially with last year's experience.

Refs abysmal! I thought this game coulda been way more lop sided. Actual went to catch up with some folks. Gaudreau didnt look good early but saved a ton of quality shots. If not for giveaways Sarnia doesnt get first 2. Then the late 2 man advantage lol. Again refs just brutal. Few Sarnia guys really pretending to be willing to go then completely shying away, lots of under your skin stuff too. I just dont like that crap, if your gonna stir the pot you better be ready to answer for it! Second period a let down period only recorded 8 shots. I do like how this team is spreading it all out. Contenders? Not without a Johnston type player and a D man.

Onuska looked pretty good despite giving up 3 last night. I don't think his GAA is reflective of his abilities, and as long as wins are getting logged, I'm not focusing on the goalie numbers. He isn't playing as lights out as he was during the run last year, but he's still playing well. A breakaway (while on the PK), a Giveaway at the face-off dot and a 5-on-3 goal. Maybe Onuska should've had the second one, but Sarnia never should've had that puck. I stick by the decision Windsor made and it makes it a little easier to get Joey in net more which will be great for future seasons.

I don't think Wright comes to Windsor. Bowler doesn't seem to be that blockbuster guy. They said before in an interview they're trying to make Windsor competitive for years to come. I hear that and think no major sell, no major buy. Wright makes sense and would be a great fit in a go for it, and if Meidema goes out I wouldn't be the most upset. However, I don't want to let those picks go for a rental player. You look at the youth on this team, and yeah sure, we can be good this season, but next year? We could be better. The year after? We could be better. They've put the puzzle pieces in place to compete for several years to come and going all in for a single season now, seems a bit counter productive. I don't think we're going to win 3-4 OHL titles but to get home ice advantage this year and the next two I wouldn't say is out of the question looking at potential 03' & 04' Overagers.

We lose Maggio but Abraham, Maillet, Peer will all have a bit more experience. We lose Renwick, but I'm liking Ride, DeAngelis is turning into a stud and Christoforo is solid. We lose Onuska, but Joey Costanzo I think has starter goalie capabilities here in the OHL. We have the depth in Goal for an OHL backup in 23/24. I'd love to hang onto the OA's but that's impossible. Looking all the way at next year, we have this core group of productive players that will likely improve as they get a year older, keeping the spits competitive, I don't risk it all on Shane Wright.

I also don't think Savard stays here long, which could be the factor that throws this competitive plan all out of whack, but looking at what we're guaranteed to lose, doesn't put the spits in panic mode or a full "sell" season, which as a fan, is great.

I'd love to watch the Spits win every OHL championship out there, but playing close competitive hockey makes it fun, and that's what they've been doing post-pandemic shutdown, and it's been a lot of fun to watch.

Another thing i wanna touch on. Has attendance been this bad all year?? 18 empty suites, huge banks of empty seats. Not what I expected at all.

It always surprises me that Sault ste Marie usually averages slightly higher than the Spits per game annually and they only have a population of 73000. Less than a quarter the size of our region. Tickets there are $22 adult same as our red zone. You notice the platinum section is thin at $44 single game ticket. Not surprised. Seats behind penalty boxes less obstructions and $15 cheaper one side to the other.

I'm not sure how many people skipped the game (despite buying tickets) but this weather makes it a tough sell.

The difference is Windsor has a LOT surrounding it whereas the Hounds are one of the biggest things in town (casinos/skiing/hunting).
