Just the Deadline Moves-

18 Draft Picks in the First 6 Rounds Gone, only a 14th Rd pick at the deadline coming back.
Plus two additional conditionals on Wright moving out, also in the first 6 rounds.

As mentioned, we also traded away our entire crop of 05s we drafted and got to report. 1st (Meidema), 2nd (Ride) and 4th (O Flaherty) leaving us with one acquired 05, Joey Costanzo.

What we got -
Shane Wright: Gone

Brett Harrison: Gone

Jacob Holmes: Not a Top 4 D Man (Dionicio, DeAngelis, Christoforo, Sobolev)

Aidan Castle: Not a Top 9 F
(Christopoulos, Maillet, Abraham, Spellacy, Greentree, Smith, Morneau, Peer, Davis)
*And Yes, Davis has passed Castle on depth. Compare their Ice Time in a Do or Die Game*

And Dionicio… Well. He’s good at least.

Doesn’t include the 3 OAs that have now graduated.

I guess Castle will fit that Top 9 soon, as we have to move 3 of our 6, 03’s.
Peer, Christopoulos, Maillet, Sobolev, Jodoin, Holmes.

My picks given our current state? Hold Peer, Jodoin, Sobolev.
Good summary. Helpful. Disagreed with trades at time. Reality confirms my suspicion at time that destroying this locker room was bad coaching decision.

I just wonder of the Spits' brass could turn the clock back and NEVER signed Wright. What did Wright actually do for the Spits since the trade. One of the worst trades in recent memory.

PS

Will Wright ever became a regular NHLer moving forward?
Not for a few years

Well this might get long lol. So how anyone gives BB a pass is beyond me. This is mostly on him. He reads the room, knows the players, is supposed to understand strengths and weaknesses. We can rip on players but they play to their capabilities thats it. If the wrong group is assembled this is what happens! Team needed D and has sine BB took over, in fact needed some hard nosed, big D. That was not addressed. Team is not only small but soft physically and mentally. Thats all on BB. BUT, this is the guy who has his hands on all of the savages hockey operations, hes will be very tough to replace! Lets go to the coaching staff, im still not ready to fire Savard, remember he was told heres your assistants deal with them. I dont know enough about where his control lies to just dump him. Both assistants? Gone no question! BUT, one is related to savage, the other tight with BB. So again savages have tough decisions to make. Strength and conditioning coach? Gone too! Way to many injuries this year, those easily attributed to that person. The Savages own this team, they did what was asked im assuming and let BB build at will. Outcome? Utter failure! Now do they have the motivation to do what’s necessary or do they go part way or is it status quo???
Some can say what about last year? Last year was coming off covid, it was wide open and truly couldve been anyones year. Spits got it done but was it due to the circumstances??? Yes BB made some great trades few werent as good, but he didn’t address the glaring issues, he completely misjudged this teams playoff hockey mindset. Cant be overlooked!
So if im calling the shots, im firing Bowler, both assistants and the S/C coach. The new GM decides on Savard.
This team still has lots of talent, with the proper additions they wont be as bad as many think im not selling off the farm! Take a look at the young crop they look to be very good. Hell your youngest guys played better than most veterans!
Thats it for now most of ya are probably asleep with my thoughts lol.
Absolutely right

Not all on Wright. But when you pay a lot for a player, expectations are high. Wright had his choice, he picked Windsor and he didn’t perform to his potential. But he’s got a bright future. Boys all fell short. Coaches and management too. And why no press conference after game, or am I missing it??

Serious question. When the discussions surrounding Shane wright were ongoing, one of the things I highlighted about Wright was I felt he likely didn’t want to return to the OHL. I was thinking maybe he’d not be as committed as someone like Logan Morrison who was unsigned. I thought maybe Wright wouldn’t mind losing early because he ends up back in Seattle or the AHL playoffs where he’d likely prefer to be.

After this playoff, does anyone think that logic has any merit? Or, did Wright play well and the team around him just didn’t show up? Or was Kitchener just that good?
I don't think Wright had a very good supporting cast. He played with Seattle/Coachella/WJs/Windsor. Then add an injury that put him out 3 weeks or so. On the other hand Dylan Guenther goes out and plays for Arizona. Oil Kings move him to Seattle and the Coyotes send him back to the WHL. Guenther plays 20 games and they sweep round 1. Seattle also has a star studded roster that Windsor didn't have when they acquired Wright. Not every example is equal but there are certain similarities to their seasons.

Has to be more about the individual player and supporting cast/roster construction than just consistency in location.

Last year McTavish played in Anaheim, San Diego, Peterborough, WJs, Hamilton, and the Olympic team.

IMP - The Spits played hard to get first place - West, Maggio's scoring title and 50th goal. They also tried hard to get Christopoulos his 50th. The team was understaffed for the final two months, and this took a mighty toll on their reserve for the playoffs. They called up Vipers, but they hardly played. 16 OHL healthy bodies is basically what the Spits played with, for the final 2 months. They were often injured, maybe as a result of overplaying. Wright, Harrison, Renwick, DeAngelis, Maggio (fighting his way through being mugged), Peer, Spellacy, Abraham, Sobolev, Onuska (having a hard time getting up, and moving side to side), and Cristoforo, bruised head to toe, blocking shots. They were a small team, with no toughness, like a Perrot, to keep their scorers free.
*This was a big mistake in the team composition, this year!
Throughout the payoffs, you could see Savard was imploring the team to get going. Considering all it took to be first, maybe there was nothing left.

Completely disappointing finish to a very good season!

Alot to unpack of what you have expressed, some good points, others I disagree with,if anyone is getting fired it would be Savard not Bowler, frankly dont think either will,I think Savard will move on,Bowler stays and new coach comes in,I am predicting Dale Mitchell in Leamington to be the new coach, with assistants to be determined by Bowler and Mitchell.
I agree with you about next year moving forward I am not prepared to blow things up and if u do then move Costanzo not because I want to but because by the time a contender is done,Costanzo will be in his OA year and we saw what happened when Savard kept an OA tender this year, that being said I wouldn't endorse a rebuild this coming year.
Now you mentioned the youth on this club the 06 class 5 signed already with at least 2 more F Jack Dean and G Carter Frogett both signed prior to camp, with a possibility of 2 or 3 more from that draft possibly being signed, which would make 8 up to 10 from 1 draft all done by Bowler and staff, toss in the trades for Costanzo for 4th and Dionicio from Niagara.
I did a look at all the teams in the league prospective returning rosters with goals returning and points returning excluding any new additions.
For comparative purposes Windsor prior to this past season was returning 125 goals from the 305 they scored last year and 309 points, next season 209 goals and 540 points,I am excluding Holmes,Sobolev and Jodoin as the OA's,and keeping Peer,Christopoulos and Maillet as the 3 OAs.
As mentioned I did all 20 teams recognizing some will add other players particularly OAs to beef their roster and frankly only see 2 OA goalies league wide Donoso for Ottawa and Simpson for Peterborough returning to the league and both being dealt to contenders.
Just showing the West for now even though I have the done the East.
Goals projected to return
West
Owen Sound-211 Flint-169
Windsor-209 London-166
Saginaw-200 SSM - 158
Guelph-184 Kitch- 109
Erie- 178 Sarnia- 92

Points including goals and assists
projected to return for the West

Windsor-540
Owen Sd-535
Saginaw-499
Guelph -475
London- 449
SSM- 441
Erie- 428
Kitch- 362
Sarnia- 267
Of those teams in the West I see
Sag,Guelph,SSM and London adding an OA,with Guelph the only team possibly using the last spot on a goalie
Should mention as of now Windsor with its 209 goals and 540 points potentially returning they would rank 2nd in the West for goals ,3rd overall,as Sudbury in the East leads all with 219,and 1st in points in the West with 540,but second overall with Sudbury from the East leading with 593 points potentially return.
Owen Sound is 3rd in the league with total points with 535,while Ottawa is 4th with 501 points.
In the end it for now projects how teams potentially shape up in the future excluding their prospects and the upcoming drafts for all.
My view for Windsor not as bleak as some think and if had told me in late August that Wyatt Johnston at age 19 was going to make the NHL and Zito asking out that Windsor would have had the season they had I would not have agreed, I figured 4th or 5th this year in the conference not 1st,its too bad they played their worst of the season in the playoffs and while I am certainly disappointed I refuse to cast a wide net on everyone.

Awfully disappointed. I just could not bring myself to the fact we were going to lose. what to change…shouda, coulda , woudda.
We can expect some changes in management, style and players but then we are a development league. We will need to be patient, both the ownership and the fans.

We can agree to disagree ie BB. I dont think savages can/will move him hes just to tied to their operations. Coaches? Minimum both assistants gone! Lots of potential coaches out there, not sure im ready to give someone do i experienced the reigns tho. That said younger coaches seem to be doing quite well in numerous leagues. Lots of “good so far” young guys here. Eager to see their development. Back to BB and scouting. Yes theyve hit well lately, at least seem to so far. BUT. This is the same group that put this team together and i dont think you can argue they are soft in all areas. Id go so far as to say many that got traded away are also of that type. All but one have struggled huge and no im not talking Miedema. I believe he to is soft in all areas. So are we to believe all these guys drafted, seemingly very talented, are just that way ? is the Spits draft system a bit flawed in securing not only high end talent but guys with that mental/physical toughness hockey teams need? If im asked today to list which players i would categorize as playoff type players theres only a handful here. No i dont need 20 of that player but id like far more tgan we have today. Lets hope whoever stays has learned a very valuable lesson from this. The loss of Johnston was far bigger than just the player. He learned how to toughen up, whats required of playoff hockey and how to get it done! All those lessons were lost to this team when he left. One more reason i believe players should be made to play in the League up to their age limit. Not including OA in that. They lost a wealth of knowledge and experience they werent able to replace.

Really curious what method you used to calculate this... especially since Guelph has it's 3 OA's pretty much set unless they upgrade. Did you go through each team's roster and assume all '04's are back and guess at the OA's? Did you omit the OA's entirely across the board? Please show your work/methodology.

I do not omit OAs across the board, in Guelph's case I included Bowman and Romeo and left 1 open did not include Leaver as think better options are available in goal.
Did not include Robinson and Enright in my calculations
As I mentioned I did not include any prospects didn't register a point, goal or assist
Even if had included Leaver for projected roster purposes the numbers for Guelph would not be different, just think they be better served with Donoso or Simpson as their OA tender should they go that route,as they project to be a pretty good team next year.
I also didn't include 03 born players with signed NHL contracts for each team, ie Harrison for Windsor signed with Boston, and in Windsor's also did not include 04 born Shayne Wright either as Seattle can assign him to the AHL next year even though he is 19.
Tried to fair with all teams, again only projected numbers goal and assist wise.

WINDSOR
Bowler tried to complement the Savard offense at all cost mentality. Bowler Brings in defensive players and they do not fit Savards systems. That is in the coaching. 6 goals in 4 games won't win games in any league. Our goalies were held suspect but actually played better than expected. This is on the coaches for not having a plan B against solid hard nosed structured teams. We saw this on our east teams swings. When your PP scores 1 goal while giving up 3 well you know the results. Our players switched lines several times every single period. Shows no confidence from coaching not sticking to a game plan that did not change throughout the series. Constantini was hardly tested with grade A chances unlike our goalies. Kitchener knew our exits and PP to a tee. They had a plan to counteract our soft play and stretch pass tactics. Hats off to them. Our players frustrated knowing we had no game plan to counter them. Wright and Harrison criticized but they were out 2 top point getters in the playoffs. Maggio and Maillet-9 is just brutal. This is Maple Leafs from 2-3 years ago. Great regular season 1st round collapse. I was criticized heavily for saying this team would fail if we play a structured team with a warm not even hot goalie. This team loses with Constantini in our net. This is coaching not adapting a solid game with the players we had or changing a PP when it's not working.

Could have definitely used an Andrew Perrot. Loved watching his D last year. Composition matters for sure. And they were totally beat up. Their trainer is clearly subpar. Players feel pressure to play injured when there is not depth and chemistry on team. That catches up to you - but surprised it happened in sweep in first round. Ugly!!!!

Hard to blame BB for deciding to go all-in. Remember it was just two weeks ago they had a 1st place battle for the conference with London and beat the Knights 6-3 on the road. The Spitfires sure looked like a championship calibre team in that win which was basically a playoff game. Who knew that would be their last win of the season. This is on Savard. No adjusted game plan for what Kitchener threw at them. Savard will have no NHL head coaching offers after that display of coaching. Either he is dismissed or we're stuck with him and his pond hockey.

Not trying to be disrespectful but the lack of D had many of us questioning BB and now its reared its head. He built this team with disregard towards D. He has in fact had more than a few internal player issues as well as personality conflicts. A good gm doesnt let personal opinions interfere with doing his job. I wont say more than that.
First shoe has dropped. Vipers HC has resigned. For those that dont know BB controls all the operation of savages hockey group. JR A B C. This might just explode im hearing some stuff thats got me shaking my head!!

I know I am going to take some shit for this opinion....that said I am going to state my opinion no matter what! ..............So many people are going to shit on Shane Wright....say he is a bust etc. .....Guess what? Spitfires defense was a complete joke before Shane Wright was acquired. A ton of people don't like Shane Wright since he was drafted by Seattle. Yes he did stare down the Montreal Canadians @ the draft last year.....why? ....well put yourself in his shoes. Say you spend 3 days of talking to the Montreal Canadians brass.....with them telling you ....you are their pick.....come draft day and they pick someone else....wanting to go to a Canadian team was his dream. Shane Wright looks at their table when he is picked by Seattle...and not one can look you in the eye.... sorry I don't blame him. Anyhow....let's look at Shane Wrights point production with the Spits.... really impressive #'s. Spitfire fans act like he is a 70 goal scorer!! That's not his game!! Universal is the best way to describe Shane Wrights game. I actually thought Shane Wright worked a ton harder than most on this Spitfire team. ....but hey....I guess it's most his fault right? ....🙄
Your post is pretty bangon with what I to feel about Wright. Windsor way overvalued his worth in my estimation and way overpaid. Look at the WJC he was solid but by no means spectacular. In the NHL he will be a solid 2-3 center that can be relied upon to play both ends of the ice. I like his game and him during his interviews but the deadline hype was crazy and severely unwarranted. I wish him well in the future but he is not a 50 goal NHL player.

HL,
Your "goals projected to return" stat is one that I find interesting. I think you've done it for a number of seasons. Thanks, it takes a lot of effort. What I'm wondering is when you look back, how reliable an indicator is it towards predicting the success of a team? For instance, if Team X will be returning the most goals, does that mean Team X will find themselves near the top of the standings? That's the important question.

So Wright… who said he was a pure scorer, who said he was a flashy kind of player, why is there so much negativity directed at him about these ideals?!?! Hes a prototypical 2 way player, likely a touch better defensively even. Solid at both ends, patient and smart with a positive attitude. Thats what he has been known as, sure he piles up points too but thats a plus. Lets pray BB didnt do the handshake deal and there's more going to kingston still. Many though windsor paid a fair price. He got hurt and his pro team dictated the return parameters, he never fully got to play with a full squad here and with all those issues he had a pretty solid season here. Playoffs you ask?? Lmao tough to play those games when only a handful of players were willing to find that extra gear needed.
