William Nylander

If Mitch Marner isn't a Maple Leaf next year, I think it's a pure fairytale to think the Leafs are going to get any kind of asset in return for him.

I don't even think Marner is going to sign a seven year deal if he hits free agency.

You think Marner is going short term? While it is entirely possible, I am working off the assumption he will cash in now & want max term.

He gets the most money in his pocket by cooperating on the sign & trade.

Guentzel's rights and just signing a 7 year deal got Carolina a 3rd round pick

8 year deal might get Vegas a lower cap hit and ensures they get Marner, if that's what they truly want, versus competing with everyone.

We're about 5 weeks out from finding out how this all goes.

I believe Marner has been advised to look at something in the four to five year range if he leaves Toronto.

With the cap rising, I think Marner would be eager to hit the market again at age 32 or 33 looking for another contract.

I think Jack Eichel might also sign a five year deal in Vegas rather than stretching it out to eight years.

I think it's rather ridiculous that this player gets a free pass from the fanbase while Marner gets run out of town. This guy actually sat out and missed games over his contract dispute, gets paid more than Marner, vanishes just like everyone else, and REFUSES to play defense. Somehow people believe this guy shows up in the playoffs, and yet in game 7, down 1-0 and with a long change in the 2nd period, glides from below the goal line to the bench without taking a SINGLE STRIDE like it's a f***ing preseason game. Then after it's all over he has the stones to say it was just a "shitty game".

True send him too

Keep in mind he rides the subway in a puffy jacket. Can you say that about the rest?

I wonder if he's going to keep riding it after the fanbase turns on him like they've done countless players in the past. With Marner gone, they'll be looking to run someone else out of town.

Nylander has been more expensive than Marner by like 600k for exactly 1 season.

Otherwise he's been way less paid. It's not about run out of town. Marner could have signed an extension or waived before this season. Everything else isn't worth addressing.

If Marner didn't want to get run out of town, he could have signed an extension for 8 years like Willy did.

He wanted the freedom to test FA and now there's a double standard how exactly?

Marner got run out of town by fans harassing him in real life, and getting carjacked. I bet he hates this city after the shit he's been through. Ultimately I think that cemented his decision to leave via free agency.

Yeah, that's absolutely horrific. Still it's like 2 idiots.

Run out of town implies it's been running for a while, which I actually agree with,. The car jacking stuff sucks, but it felt like a dead relationship after game 5 before all that stuff.

Leaf fans have put way more pressure on Marner than Nylander, outside of play and it's entirely due to the fact one guy is entering FA and the other is signed for 7 years with a NTC. Even outside of actual play, it's enough to be a powder keg.

Yep, he’ll no longer be able to hide as the third wheel. Hopefully he’s up to the task.
