William Nylander

At least he's committed to his team.

Yep.

He's been the best Leaf this post season. He also hasn't been perfect and I think it's fair to be frustrated the games he hasn't scored.

Still, he's locked in long term, committed his prime to the team and will be a piece of the next interaction of the team/core.

Just need to leave the dead weight behind and focus on the future.

For me nylander is confirming he’s a great 3rd or 4th guy on a playoff team. Pure Phil kessel type guy who could find success if we deal him at ~9M to some contender

Matthews just isn’t a player you want on your team in the playoffs. He can’t be relied on to do anything. Drive play, be a playmaker, finish goals, play defence or even be physical. He’s a thorough loser

Marner is of a similar strand, but he can still make passes, he can’t do anything better than Matthews apart from that. We saw it at 4N, and we’ve seen it in these playoffs. He could work if he played with MacKinnon, Mcdavid, draisaitl, rantanen and those type of guys. Alphas who raise their game and drive the play, Marner just needs to make a quick and nice pass or two to make an impact.

What I know for sure is that they can’t be 1,2,3 on any cup contending team, especially the leafs.

I agree he can be a teams Kessel. Though I think you're taken on Kessel is off - he led a cup winning team in playoffs scoring and lost the Conn Smyth by a hair. That's not a team's 3rd or 4th best piece.

Personally I think Marner's warts will still be the same even if he's buried deeper in the lineup. Nylander will never be a perfect player, and neither will Marner.

Kessel had a great 2016 cup run but pen fans still had him 3rd best that year

2016:
Crosby
Letang
Kessel

Murray
Malkin
Bonino
Haggling

2017:

Crosby
Malkin

Kessel
Guentzel
Murray
Fleury

Crosby was a top 5 player in the league in 2016 and top 2 in 2017

Malkin was top 10ish in 2016 and top 3 in 2017

Nylander won't be playing with Mack/Kuch/Drai + Matthews to be the Kessel for a comparable cup like team

Personally I'd have Kessel ahead of Letang in '16. I'd also rank Crosby higher than just top 5.

But regardless, I think a better way of putting it is Nylander can be the 2nd best forward on a cup team behind a 1C. I think it gets a bit tricky comparing the comparative weight of different positions in a single ranking

Edit: amusing typo

This place can be wild. Willy is in conversation for where in the top 10 he lands for most clutch playoff skaters in the league.

The team got absolutely stomped yesterday, it was soul crushing, yet he was the best player on the ice.

I'm so upset at the lack of trade pieces due to the awful tradedeadline.

I think Lindholm could be got for veryyyyy cheap.

Playing with Willy he could easily hit the 60-70 point more. 7.75 mil is basically 2C money nowadays.

Gonna need Nylander to score or set something up. He looked ok last game, but results are all that matter. I forgot what series it was but Marner and Matthews had a great Corsi and were playing hard, but couldn't put the puck in the net and they got clowned (rightfully so too).

Nylander has had a great 8 games so far. Need him to have the best 2 in his career now. He has to put the puck in the net.

Dude needs to look at shifts of other players around the league and how they play/push through when they are out of gas and ask himself - why not me? Why can't I do the same/give the same?

Not too disappointed in Nylander overall since he's had a pretty good series overall but hope he just goes out there, has fun, and works hard in game 7. Do or die moment for the team.

More hits than shots ... limted ice time ... should be healthy for next game.

They have him locked down. What it does do is provide AM and MM etc and opportunity to have a big game.

He didn’t have a good game at all barkov did his job well see how sunday goes
When it comes to Game 7, Willie just needs that one chance to make it count. And he will get that one chance no matter whom he plays against.
