Willy ain't a leader, Matthews ain't a leader, Marner ain't a leader. We don't have a leader. None of these guys are leaders of men. I haven't seen an ability to lead.
I think Tanev may have a leadership quality about him that's legit.

JT Morgan MM WN AM are not natural leaders. I never see any one of them firing up the team when it's needed. Willy puts in good lead by example determination in clutch situations so maybe he would wear an A. JT is probably fitting of an A. MM and Mo forget about it, one whines and throws fits and the other takes shits

“We talk about working his way out of it,” Berube said. “I go back to the Carolina game (last Thursday), in that first period he was really explosive in that game and on top of things (and scored).

“It’s just getting him back to more consistency with that and when he has opportunities, shoot the puck. He has to stay involved in the game a little bit longer than he is.
Yep, we've all seen it. Hopefully we see more involvement tonight.

If it’s not that big of a deal than it shouldn’t be hard to break, both the losing streak and his awful play

Expecting a big game to backup the statement

I haven't gone through this whole thread but I think the more important of Berube's quote was "“Like our whole team, offensively, we’ve got to keep working and got to stay on. We need second and third effort everywhere. This league is a second-and-third-effort league. This time of year, it gets hard and we all know that, and we need second and third effort."

This is the infuriating thing about Willy and we see it alot... He'll go to make a play and lose it off his stick, and you see his shoulders slump and he meanders his way slowly back to the bench while the rest of the team has to turn and burn to defend. He just gives up on the play and slumps back to the bench. "Second and third effort" is too often not there. He is so capable of stealing the puck back when he's jumping, but we don't always see that.

Really don’t like the attitude of the core.
Like if they actually had playoffs success, they can have the only a few games in the regular season….but the fact they are just a playoffs team. They really need to have a better mentality. As I really don’t think they understand how to adjust themselves in playoffs

Apparently the Leafs dressing room has a severe case of foot-in-mouth disease.

Remember after Tampa eliminated the Leafs and Nylander said something along the lines of how they're slowly learning what it takes to win. It's been a few years now and they've only won a single playoffs series since. So in light of these most recent comments I'd really like to know: what have you learned about winning superstar William Nylander?

Because it doesn't look like you've learned a damn thing yet.

Comments like these underscore the loser mentality that permeates the dressing room. They just lost three games in a row but it's no big deal. And if they lose the next game it's only four in a row so don't sweat it.

How many games in a row can they lose before it does become a big deal?

The correct answer is every loss should be a big deal. Remember seeing Crosby kick the shit out of the bench door in a meaningless game after a bad line change resulted in Marner scoring a goal? That's because Sidney Crosby hates losing and his championship pedigree is testament of that.

If you're not pissed off after every loss then you don't have what it takes to win a championship in any league.

Stark contrast hearing how Berube, Tanev, and OEL talk about their slump versus the core guys who've been here for years on end.

Crosby is ultra competitive it’s just how he’s wired and it’s evident by his play and achievements.
Our guys are wired to be chill.

Tons of talent and zero heart. The antithesis of so many Leafs teams that inspired many of us. What a waste.

Lmao Carlton in the stands trying to energize the crowd through this snoozefest.

Tbh I wouldn’t mind seeing a Marner, Domi , Nylander line. Marner and Nylander have underrated chemistry as well. Just in terms of switching it up. Give Matthews McMann and Knies.
My favorite combo, wish Chief gave Willy a longer look at C, they'd make a great line together.
