In the last 2+ seasons, among forwards, Willy is 10th in goals, 20th in assists, 11th in points, 15th in ppg, 5th in ES goals, 15th in ES pts, 22nd in PP goals, 14th in PP pts, 7th in OT goals, 14th in gwg, and 6th in shots.

Among just RWs, in only PP goals (1 shy of tied for 4th) is he worse than 5th.

Most of his ES time has been played on tge second line, with a good but not great C and a variety of average at best LWs.
He produces in spite of linemates at times that’s what makes him and marner a good dynamic I haven’t seen a top 6 winger that couldn’t play with either of them just pay Mitch properly

He’s living up to his contract.

Treliving was wise to meet his contract demands.

He will get 50 this year and save the best for post season.

Agree with others should have an A by now.

Still improving, will age like a fine wine.

If Marner wants 13m, Nylander is a much better value at 11.5

Yes I’m biased, favourite Leaf since Sundin.

He's been by far my favourite since Mats as well. Grabovski was a so so fill in for a bit.

Meh. I still kinda hope that he gets to be “the guy” or at least “one of the guys” on another team someday, a team that can win.

Feels like he’s been taking so much s*** from Toronto, its fans and media.

I remember that huge banner that the Leafs put up outside the arena 1-2 years ago on which he was not on, but the rest of the core and the likes of Holl were. He’s being shuffled around the lines, different positions, and have never really had a true linemate. He’s been taking this fairly well though, but he does not have a letter, and soon Marner gonna be paid more than him again.

Meh. Would be cool seeing him get to shine a bit

That's arguable. The Sittler-McDonald-Salming Leafs only won one best-of-7 in six years, and were swept four times.

Won 6 playoffs series but yes, were swept by solid Flyer, Bruins and Habs teams. This Leafs team isn't close to doing what the Leafs team that beat the heavily favoured Islanders team, on the road, in OT of game #7, missing Salming for most of that series and Lanny playing a broken jaw. That Islander team went on to win the next 4 Stanley Cups.

The supposed best players to ever don a Leafs jersey are 1 and 8. losing to the CBJ and a Habs team that sold at the TDL. Those CBJ and Habs teams went down the drain.

maybe a lesson here?
very promising team but always ran up against that habs team that was a juggernaut, just didn't lose
dismantled the "core" under punch imlach 2.0 and didn't recover for years

i am all for a re-distribution of the cap but it is a very thin tightrope to manoeuvre, make the right decision and we are laughing, make the wrong one and we are in deep doo doo

is brad the guy to guide the ship?
let's hope so

punch imlach 2.0 was an idiot and the owner was a greedy, convicted criminal who milked this fan base.

That was no rebuild.

Punch Imlach, the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, traded Lanny McDonald to the Colorado Rockies on December 29, 1979 to undermine the influence of team captain Darryl Sittler.

Punch Imlach, the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, traded Darryl Sittler to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1982 because he viewed Sittler as an obstacle to his power over the team

Both trades were similar to the Kadri trade. Made out of spite.

Was the Kadri trade made out of spite? Emotional maybe but it doesn't seem like spite.

Seems like the brass decided he was going to be the scapegoat

I guess it may have been a little easier to win a round when 16 of 21 teams made the playoffs. Still winning one round is better than none but not much

More excuses. I love the one where they called the original 6 NHL, a house league. Talk about insulting two generations of players who did not have the leverage to mail in games because there were players hungry and waiting to take their jobs.

Well in this world you fight fire with fire, this team is just as good as teams in the past. May even be better. Will this start another round? Lol

They had months to cool off from the playoffs and Shanny doesn't strike me as a "that bonehead is done!" kind of a guy. IMO just shuffling the deck chairs with no money to do it after Kyle realized NK wasn't ever going to score 30 again playing behind Matthews and Tavares. They got retention on Barrie and presumably that was a key requirement which limited their other options. With that and the Spezza signing probably in his pocket it was a chance to further advance the dangle agenda without spending. Not a deal I would have made but the cap math worked. It would have been somewhat different if Barrie had been able to carry his offense over from Colorado.

I wonder what the best 1 for 1 hockey trade with no retention would have been though. A gritty C who was 30g if in the top 6 on a decent deal? We'll have to wait for Kyle's biography after he retires.

The funniest part about any of this is that, of all guys, anyone thinks Willie gives an eff about any of that. The kid is born to play here and we hope he goes somewhere else because he wasn't on a banner outside the stadium once.

That because this organization is stupid. They are a shit run organization that is tone Def and generally out to lunch on contracts and management choices.

Nylander is 100% built for this market. He is the mature one, the total pro vs the idiotic corporate likes of Bell and Rogers.

I believe he is calling his biography, Puck Head.
