He's gone from the outhouse to the penthouse since he signed after "holding out" for two months and coming in out of shape. Hopefully he can keep up the 52 goal pace he is on and puts up close to 100 points.

I want him to get a rocket. I think that would be awesome. Two rocket winners on the same team. Maybe another fancy team related silver trophy as well.

It seems crazy to me that if he hits 40 again this year that he will become the 5th Leaf in history to have 3 40 goal seasons.

In the old days when the Leafs were good they had shorter seasons and/or low scoring environments. Then we had the long suffering Ballard era so it has only been relatively recently that there was much of an opportunity for a handful of star Leafs players to do stuff.

All of Matthews, Marner and Nylander will be high on various Leafs records if they continue to play in TO.

Regular season warriors but they have never competed like Sittler, Salming, McDonald, Sundin, Clarke, Gilmour, and Roberts in the playoffs. Playoff warriors.

Never thought Sundin fit with the others listed but ya, the current crop of stars is likely the most talented group the Leafs have ever had at one time. They just don’t lay it out there.

The entire core 4 has been a huge disappointment in the playoffs.

If people could finish his setups better he'd be on pace for a lot more than 100 points.

Not bad for a lazy second liner.

Why is there a trophy for goals and not one for assists? Maybe we can campaign for one and call it the Beliveau, Ratelle, Oates or Jumbo? Better yet, the Johnny Hockey (RIP).

Seems the old guard never thought an assist was worth it. I actually wouldn't be opposed to an award. I mean, they are important.

McDavid really wanted that 100th assist, seemed like he was always declining to shoot when he got to the mid nineties.
The way I see it if you are not a goal scorer and you want to be one of the top 5 paid players in the game, you have to lead the league in something. Has Mitch ever led the league in assists or come close to 100 assists? How about an Art Ross?

No Mitch Marner. His highest was 69. There's that number again.

Exactly. He just isn't in that range of player but wants the money. He demands the money. There is no way out of this other than letting them play the POs and see how it goes. Base an offer on what happens there.

Yet Sundin played just as well in the playoffs, 8 playoff years, 77 games played 70 points.

Other than Gilmour who only played here 4 playoff years and even 2 of them were 1st round exists, the rest seemed to have one great year. The rest are no different than what we have now. We’ve went deep 3 or 4 times in the last 50 years even with the old legends.

I'm not gonna criticize Nylander's point totals in the playoffs for a couple of reasons.

1) His goals are good, but his assists are not. Which is mainly on his linemates. JT is the biggest playoff dropper out of the core 4. To be fair to JT and Nylander, they've NEVER had a LW ever. He had a game against Florida where it was 5 A+ chances for his linemates and they couldn't finish. His playmaking is underrated.

2) He's been the least paid by far. It changed last season and I think we can all agree we were satisfied with his performance on the ice despite injury.

3) This dude put up goals with Kerfoot as his center. Best player in the Habs series.

4) He's consistent from game 1-7.

5) He scores clutch goals. Like every single Boston series goal. Or Florida goals. He was also a monster in the 2022 playoffs.

That said. The standard is much higher on a 11.5 mil deal. We need 10 point series. He's got the skill to break the game himself with some more consistency.

In the last 2+ seasons, among forwards, Willy is 10th in goals, 20th in assists, 11th in points, 15th in ppg, 5th in ES goals, 15th in ES pts, 22nd in PP goals, 14th in PP pts, 7th in OT goals, 14th in gwg, and 6th in shots.

Among just RWs, in only PP goals (1 shy of tied for 4th) is he worse than 5th.

Most of his ES time has been played on the second line, with a good but not great C and a variety of average at best LWs.
