He wasn't pushing it. He didn't play terrible or even bad but he certainly played a very conservative game. Look, Nylander is at a new level now, he legitimately upped a tier. Things have been coming easy to him and he needs to go hungry again, a little more speed or zip is the difference in catching a player or tender off guard.

Maybe he was just having an off night but it showed even if compared to most players he still looks great. I don't think I saw him accelerate or even hit top speed the way we know he can last night.
Yes - quite noticeable that he is paying more attention to his defensive game, closer to the way a centre plays.

I liked how he played the two-on-one - keeping in the passing lane and leaving the shooter to Stolarz.

The good thing is that even while playing a more conservative defensive game he was still getting and setting up lots of chances.

Very hot take but I would love to see Nylander play a game on defence just for fun. I think he would be one of the best D in the league for zone entries.
He's done pretty well when he's been caught as the man back on a PP, but I think it would be a waste of our second- or third- best player. But yes his zone entries are easily the best on the team.

yup scorching take

by the way, have a new bottle I will get to tonight, Wild Turkey Rare Breed. High ABV, so will have a some water to add a little to take off some heat and open it up.
I just picked up a bottle of McConnell's Irish whisky. I have a game tonight so I'll be cracking it and watching the game later tonight.

(Had to explain to my wife the difference between whisky and whiskey.)

The Scottish spell it 'whisky', and most of the world follows that, including Canada and Japan. The Irish, because they disapproved of the faster Coffey method, added an 'e' to distinguish theirs from Scottish. The US (usually) followed them.

There are exceptions, including McConnell's, which retains the older spelling, and Maker's Mark, from its Scottish heritage.

The team can't finish his insane passes with any consistency. There was a game against Florida last year in the playoffs where he set up 5 A+ chances and no one buried it.

Same yesterday outside of Minten.

That's good stuff. IMO there are very few bourbons regularly available at the LCBO that are high quality and also good value for the money, that's one of them.

Nylander was excellent last night.

He was an adventure in his own zone and defensively in general most of the game, as usual. He did have one really solid defensive play in the third I think it was though.

At this point it just is what it is.. Nylander is one of those super talented but mercurial one way guys. Great when he’s on offensively like he was last night and frustrating the rest of the time.

I've come to accept his flaws. I thought last night he really took charge offensively, looked so calm and in command when he had the puck.
