Last year before signing his extension:

37 games, 19 goals, 33 assists (42 goal, 73 assist, 115 point pace)

Since signing his extension (including playoffs)

50 games, 22 goals, 23 assists (36 goal, 38 assist, 74 point pace)

Good, but worth $11.5m? Obviously with this coach, we need a larger sample size.
Something's off, as he only played 86 games, not 87. And I'm not sure why you included the playoffs (I suspect you wouldn't include Marner's 1G and 2A in 7 games the same way).

But regular season after the contract - 45 games, 19 goals, 23 assists (35 goal, 42 assist, 77 point pace).

35 goals and 77 points would have him 14th and 10th respectively among all wingers (right and left).

We know the Leafs' cap structure is off (thanks Dubas), but that's still not terrible for one of the best wingers in the league, particularly one who can put up those numbers on the second line.

From what I am seeing, a big part of the problem here is that the line is not 'his'.

Spread the talent a bit, run with Knies-Holmberg-Nylander, that would in my eyes be a very supportive cast for Willy.

Nylander is exceptionally talented, no doubt. His struggle will always be consistently giving a shit. Not good enough at that price, Imo.

Is your big plan to also saddle your self with an underperforming Marner deal ?

Nylander is locked in.

And you are confident about paying Marner MORE than Nylander ?

No money left for other players.

They are all saving themselves for the playoffs.

Right?

Still trying to figure out what Berube wants?

Nylander has to dumb it down, as do the other 2, and just shoot and mates have to get to the net for puck battles.

Too cute indeed.

Nylander has looked great in the playoffs compared to your boy Mitch. Do you think Marner's issue is not giving a shit, or is it something else that's holding him back?

Not a single point among them so far.

Either way, I'll give anyone on the team 3-5 regular season games of a new coach before I get too critical
I have no doubt their points will come. We'll see what happens in the playoffs.

As long as he play with Tavares i dont care. That Frankenhorse has been dead a few seasons, still some crazy coach will stand up and scream "its alive!". Just stop it... please...

Take Domi off his line and he will be better. Fans complain T isnt a second line center and is too slow. But lets put it all on Nylander.

Domi isnt a top 6 player. Gets a pass because of his name. Where would he be in the top six on other teams? He played well with Mathews. Now all is forgiven. Its like Rielly having one good playoff two yrs ago......now he gets a pass even tho he just isnt very good defensively.

Funny how that all works eh?

Nylander has his faults....but he drives that line.

Lol.

Sorry. Forgot to finish.

I use any reason to find a way to be hopeful.

Quite possibly a slow start produces a atronger finish. Grasping at asraws
Same here. I try to do the same, and there are definitely reasons to be hopeful, there's just only so much hope I can muster considering our pukeworthy playoff record. Hoping for a good game tonight anyway, taking it one day at a time.
