Will we be targeted nightly?

It was one fight between two designated scrapers, that's all it was. The Bruins have not lost every ounce of team toughness. The Bruins lost that game because Vanek went off and the Bruins defense collapsed in the second half of the game. Miller was also very good. I don't for a second believe the Bruins collapsed because Thornton lost a fight early in the first. Correlation does not imply causation. They had an off night, a really off night from Chara especially. It happens! Now Thornton is a loss but I'd rather replace him in the short term than any other regular except for Bourque.

I wish I could feel the same about it, but the whole thing still doesn't sit right with me, two plays stand out in the entire game as the two most important highlights from the game, the "shhhhhh" that Scott did to the Bruins bench, and then after when Seidenberg got shoved by Scott. that "shushing" of the Bruins bench especially has ruined my whole weekend so far, sick about that

had to do some searching to relive a classic Bruins moment to cheer myself up this morning, this is how I feel, the Bruins are the team that does the shushing, if it ever swings the other way tells me there is a serious fail going on:

Targeted by whom?

The Sabres had the nuclear option, no one else has that.

What EXACTLY did they do to us? Their tough guy beat our tough guy. We still took a 3-1 lead in that game and if Ryan Miller does not stop Looch on that point blank chance it's 4-1, Miller is gone and the rout is on.

Our defense was awful and Miller stood on his head, nothing else to see.

How did we go from being regarded as the toughest team in the league to (supposedly) the team that everyone is going to beat up on after just one year or that one fight?

Dude.... I get where you're coming from, and I can't change the way you feel, but may I humbly suggest: if your well-being depends on the perpetual dominance of a surrogate bully, and is shaken by such innocuous things as "shush" gestures (delivered in response to god knows what trash talk Marchand & Co. have been doling out), you're in for some rough seasons. The B's rivals have beefed up their rosters of late, and are not going to be pushed around as easily as we've grown used to. Guys like Scott have been specifically acquired to send messages, and are smart enough to know that in order to remain marketable, they better deliver. We're going to see a lot of provocative gestures and challenges this season. It's a direct result of our own tactics in seasons past, and rather than panicking about it or reading it as a form of "fail", we ought to accept it as a consequence of our actions, treat it as a form of flattery (imitation, after all...) and get used to it.

Respectfully, BFYJ

One lost fight, and the FANS heads are on a swivel

you can't win 'em all, folks.

No the Bruins aren't going to be "targeted" anymore than they were previously.

No, Shawn Thorton is not going to be a shell of his former self

No, Buffalo is not in the teams head after a game with one fight and 11 goals scored

No, The Bruins are not going to seek revenge and roll out Chara against Scott

Yes, it will be business as usual.

I have never seen such a paranoid and almost embarrassing reaction in every media outlet associated with this team over a meaningless staged goon fight. This wasn't Scott KO'ing Lucic or Horton.

Our enforcer got his butt kicked.. nothing left to see here.

The Big Bad Bruins are still Big and still Bad and they will continue to focus on winning hocke games. The focus on the fight and the potential for payback and more fights is embarrassing to the team and the sport in general... it's not WWE

yeah, good post and your points are probably right, there, I am depressed now...... :(

what is really sad is when you witness and experience greatness, but things change and memories are what you have left, it was amazing to be a part of the stanley cup winning year

This is bull **** thinking.

Lane is a throw away player. We sent out him out there against pompinville to intimidate the other team. I hate how we can be as blindsided like this about our team but so critical against other teams.

For 13 seconds we could have out out any line. It's 13 seconds the game is decided who cares. Instead we take a chance to cause trouble.

nothing happened. your whole argument is based on what "could" have happened.... that's fine. Lane is garbage, Lane is this and that... he has 1 fight against Rupp. Nothing happened...

simply isn't history of a julien team doing anything in those stages and there are stiff penalties to both the team, player and coaches. but it doesn't matter... these things get dealt with in the course of time.

all i was saying was, if we were up 3, i dont need julien rolling seguin line out there... it's okay for julien to put the merlot line out there. if you're afraid something "might" happen, don't do something dumb like leave skill guys out in a game that is practically over.

Appreciate that you didn't take offense at my post.

You're fixating on one thing, maybe a couple of incidents (each of which could be interpreted in different ways). But there's so much else to be pleased about in this young season: Hamilton, Tuukka, Krejci, Lucic. Marchand and Horton with a couple of highlight reel goals. The forecheck: arguably better than it's been, on a consistent basis, since January of last year. Pevs finally potting one (and a nice one at that). The PK. Even Seguin (who I'm mostly critical of thus far) asserting some net-front presence this last game. I don't mean to be a rose-tinted Pollyanna, but just trying to bring a little balance to the picture. C'mon man, chin up! We're still contendahs!

Wait, what?

Did I miss something? Is this team not one of the best in the NHL and a Stanley Cup contender?

they say that about the Canucks every year  :help:

You said:

If you look back at that year, at any time during the season were you absolutely positive that the Bruins were going to win the Cup?

Funny you mention Vancouver. The Stanley Cup isn't awarded to "great" teams because of their awesomeness. If it was, the Canucks would be wearing rings right now. The Cup goes to teams that work their behinds off and earn it. The Bruins have done so in the recent past, and I fully expect them to keep on doing so for the forseeable future.

This is what kills me.

There's not normally retaliation if your enforcer loses a fair fight. Do I expect the next time Boston and Buffalo square off that it will be a more physical game? Yeah, I do, and I think most Bruin fans would take that kind of game and the Bruins win that type of game against Buffalo more often than not.

Scott and Thornton talked before the game about this match. Size disparity aside, it was a bout between two enforcers and Thorts lost. Was it dirty? Was there a penalty? Scott went with the Bruins' best fighter and knocked him out fairly. We don't often see other people challenging Thornton, Lucic, or McQuaid after they knock out the top guy from the other team.

The Bruins were supposed to retaliate because.....why?

Yeah, it serves to satiate some bloodthirst, but that's it, and it's far from being a wise strategy.

Man, there's a bunch of Nancies on this board.

"*sniffle* our more talented than the average goon lost to their mutant, no skill goon in a fight, which magically made the team's defense suck for the last half of the game! Now, the Bruins are targets just like they've been for the last couple of years at least, if not since they got Chara! I'm a hockey fan, yet concerned that opposing teams may be too rough against my team!"

****, guys, sack the **** up! The Bruins lost a game, and lost ugly. Guess what? It happens. Did any of you really think the team would go 48-0-0? Or that there wouldn't be a few clunkers during the year?

The team is 5-1-1, and until the Sabres game (which was game 3 in a four night span) answered every challenge they faced. And they did it with Chara looking bad most nights and the 2nd line doing **** all.

It feels like I'm surrounded by Habs fans, or Nucks fans. Since when are Bruins fans afraid of the team being targeted? Bring it the **** on, I say!

Kind of funny, isn't it, that so many Boston fans see themselves as tough guys, and at the first whiff of adversity, it's

Said it before and it bears repeating: The Boston Bruins have ten times the intestinal fortitude of some of their fans. Thank goodness.
