The Sabres haven't qualified for the playoffs for the past 13 seasons and they are well on their way to making it 14 with their current 28th place league standing. They are also dead last in the Eastern Conference.

I used to laugh at the Sabres and their fans... but it's just not funny any more. They've gotten a lot of high draft picks over the past years... picks most other teams would give their left nut for... yet nothing seems to change year to year. I feel sorry for Sabres fan and the hockey hell they're living in.

Honestly I'm not even sure where to start to clean up and fix this problem. It's almost like walking into one of those hoarders houses you see on tv and say OMG.. where do I start? You can't throw the home owner out of his or her house same as you can't fire the team owner. What's to be done?

I'm sure you can look up the other 3 threads that have been made about this topic this season. You can probably find your answers there

You're probably right but I haven't paid attention to what Buffalo has been doing. I created the thread because I was looking at League standings today and was shocked to see the Sabres in 28th place with the likes of SJ and Chicago. That just made me sad.

It's tough to build a competitive team. You really need that franchise 1C. They got it and it was Eichel and thought it was better to jack him around and then trade him. Dahlin and Power are great but 1C is still a need.

It will tough to get one with where they are at unfortunately. Can't rebuild but can't get the high draft pick.

We actually didn't "jack" him around.

A "strenuous" relationship obviously developed...no?

Yes..when it came to his surgery. But that was after he wanted out.

If you want to call a losing team from incompetence as jacking him around sure... but I tend to disagree. The relationship was fine.. He just wanted out because he wanted to win and I don't blame him. Personally I wouldn't call that jacking him around.

Maybe they'll get the center they need in the 2025 draft. There are quite a few centers ranked in the top 10 this year. You might even say it's a bumper crop for centers.

Dunno. Ask the Florida Panthers. One minute they were hot garbage in a perpetual rebuild for 15 years, the next, they made a trade or two, and made the finals and won the cup. Things can change on a dime if the right moves are made. They've always had the foundation, just missing a few things to put it all together.

Starts with the owner willing to spend the money (beyond just spending to the salary cap) to build a serious top to bottom organization, then turn the corner with the hire of a young wizard GM (utilizing a staff of proven hockey people), and then the owner gets out of the damm way.

In 2044, they're going to be unstoppable, unfortunately, nobody will be able to afford a ticket, so the league will fold before any playoff games are played.

Wasn't the main reason for the fallout was because a disagreement with the medical treatment and Sabres didn't allow him to get his preferred treatment until the bridge was broken? Reddit has a nice summary of the video:

That was the public fallout. But Eichel had already asked for a trade before he suffered his injury.
