Speculation: Necas and Avs Contract Negotiations and Potential Trade

The Avs are totally screwed, but it wasn't because of trading Rants, it was letting Kadri go. We've spent pretty much all our assets trying to replace him, and don't have shit to show for it.
Rantanen out the door
Landeskog breaking
Nichushkin substance abuse
Kadri walked, never replaced
Goalies Turnstyle
No Prospect Pool (that's to be expected)

There's a lot of things going on for Colorado that have hurt them post Cup win.
And as far as Dallas goes, they can have that contract. It's gonna age so badly, and with the no movement clause on top of it....
ehh idk about that

So Necas isnt a fan of Colorado and wants out?

This AVS self destruction during its cup window days is a must watch.

Is Sakic okay?
Lol not quite. Necas is best in that LW half wall spot. In case you havent heard, we have some guy named Nate who is pretty good there already. We traded our off side guy like morons for Necas. Now to replace that or 2C.

While the Rantanen experiment was bad for Carolina, its been horrendous for Colorado. From getting a guy who disappeared in the playoffs, to your former guy allegedly willing to re-sign but instead he eliminated you in the playoffs, to now the new guy potentially wanting out. What a catastrophic failure.
In the end, it ended up fine for Carolina.

Necas, who was only going to be around in Carolina for another year, Drury, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th round pick in 2026; netted the Canes Taylor Hall, Logan Stankoven, two 1st round picks, and two 3rd round picks.

Don't get me wrong, I wish Rantanen would have worked out, but the return for Necas and Drury was fair.

If things aren't looking like they're going to reach an agreement with Necas and the Avs do decide to move him...i'd imagine the Canucks would be all over that. They've got cap space to work with, have rumored interest in him previously, are probably looking for more speed in the lineup and have a clear need. I'd venture that they might also be one of the teams that would actually be willing to let him take another run at being an actual Center - even if just out of desperation.

Not really sure what Vancouver would have to offer that would appeal to the Avs who are right in their window though. Presumably Lekkerimaki would be involved. But could also build a package around their 1st round pick. There'd be options there.

Just seems like it'd be awfully poor optics for the Avs to have downgraded Rantanen to Necas and then downgrade Necas to some other various parts and pieces. But if they're not seeing eye-to-eye on contract and role, i guess it'd make sense to move on and try something else rather than doubling down on it.

Ya'll did the right thing on Kadri. The guy had to sit in free agency for a month before he found a team dumb enough to give him that contract.

I dont think you'd find a team in the league that'd say no to Rantanen on that contract. Even if one day it looks bad, by then the elite players will be making $18-20m

No thanks.

No we didn't. CMac has traded all of our assets trying to replace him and we still have a hole at 2C.
Bo Byram, Ritchie, Zellers, 2025 1st, 2026 1st, etc. All of it, gone with only Charlie Coyle to show for it, and he's no Kadri.

They're welcome to it. The dude has his cup, he's not hungry, he's gonna just collect that 12M and show his elite skills from time to time (Probably against the Avs). Enjoy!

The Kadri thing is so weird. At the time, it absolutely seemed like it made sense to just let him walk. Got their Cup, he'd had a ridiculous career year that didn't look repeatable and was asking to be paid accordingly.

But in retrospect, they've really struggled to adequately replace him. He seemed to just "fit". With all the assets and resources they've spent chasing a replacement, maybe they really should've just gone to the table and given him the sort of deal it would've taken to keep him. Would've made things complicated under the cap for a few years in there and probably still cost them some other pieces trying to make it work. But when it works, it works.

Just goes to show how difficult it is to build a Cup Winner. There are so many of those little forks in the road...you goof up one of them and you end up spending years trying to unfork that decision.

They won a cup so this group will likely be looked at in a positive light but overall I think Sakic kind of sucks as a GM yet like Yzerman he's spoken of like a God and Sakic 2.0 is worse.

Aside from that run they've done next to nothing and if you dare say a negative thing about their core guys or ex GM, they throw a tantrum.

I don't usually buy into rumours but Mack seems like a giant dickhead and I could see how his narcissistic demands could piss people off

Ya it's crazy to think that Kadri, a good player but not a star player might be the reason the teams window didn't last long, if it is in fact now closed.

I agree about Rants and at at least Necas should get a nice return if traded but the only thing with Miko is him leaving definitely affected #29's game

Necas is destined to be a nuck, on three separate occasions, with three separate pieces going the other way discussions were had and I'm convinced JR is convinced he's best at the center position.
If the Avs decide to move him I expect our management to move hard on him.

With Chytil's apparent concussion in March in fact not a concussion but a neck injury and a virus that mimicked one, I think his injury history will fade away like it did with Sid.
He has 2c upside and actually fits the system the Avs play quite well.
Obviously it wouldn't be a 1 for 1 but I could see him as the roster portion of a deal with other valuable stuff added.
Avs fans will say hell no but if a GM is confident in Chytil being healthy, there's a lot to like about his game.

I'm not even sure it would be a good deal for the nucks but only mentioning it because JR really wants Necas, or at least he did.

Maybe they could package him for a legit top line winger who scores roughly 40g 90p every season, but I don't know where they would find a guy like that
