Looking at scjedule....ottawahas 4 games against teams above them (TB, FL, CAR,) but they still have 3 with columbus


Montreal plays FL and CAR twice , and ott and tor

12 games left, 3 on the road and 9 at home. FLA, TB and CAR are the only teams they play that are ahead of them in the standings.

So if they miss with a 5 point lead going into those final 12 games, it'll certainly be deserved.

However, every team chasing the Sens also lost last night, so the loss didn't really hurt them. I'm sure those teams aren't embarrassed, nor should the Sens be. Any given game, anyone could win or lose, which is one of the many reasons only fools and suckers gamble on sports. Unless you're in the perhaps 1% of gamblers that comes out ahead in their lifetime, but that takes a lot of constant study, and taking advantage of different odds with different sports books (professional gamblers).

Hopefully Green learns, and stop dressing Hamonic, and when Ullmark gets the night off, call up Merilainen to play.

Every year, teams lose to teams they should beat repeatedly. It happens every year, and every team has at least 1. It works the other way too; the Sens swept the Leafs handily, but are certainly worse than the Leafs. They took Washington to OT in every game, when they aren't in their ballpark.

It's that time of year when some teams that are out play with no pressure, and win a lot of games hurting their draft lottery position. Not long ago, the Sabres were firmly entrenched in 3rd. Now they've passed Nashville, moved ahead of Philly by points %, and within 0,01% of Seattle. I've certainly seen the Sens do this a few times in the last 7 years. And in 2011 where they went from last to 7th last in the last month. After all of those seasons, many Sens fans thought they'd continue on a roll the next year, and it didn't happen, as the pressure was back.

I'm glad pro athletes and coaches are good at keeping an even keel and not overreacting like histrionic online sports fans.

Lol, no way. Who's chasing them? The Isles AND Montreal. Both would have to pass them for them to miss. No chance that's happening.

The teams chasing them are just kinda ass. It's reminiscent of last year, where no team is making a charge at the end of the year to separate themselves from the pack, so I don't foresee any of the Isles, Rangers, Canadians, Blue Jackets, etc...dethroning them.

More like 4-1, or 3-2, but hopefully that was Forsberg's last game for the Sens. Merilainen has been way better than Forsberg this season (1.99 .925 in 12 games), and has been great in the AHL, he'll be next year's backup. Merilainen needs to be called up to play when Ullmark gets the day off.

Carolina barely counts since it’ll be the last game of the season and they’ll just rest half the team. They’re locked into their spot already.

Sens’ advantage is that 9 of the 12 remaining games are at home and the record is very good there. Strength of schedule might be irrelevant to us since we’re 0-6 against Buffalo and Montreal this year.

They are playing quite well at the moment, doubling Buffalo in just about every advanced metric last night, but lost off a combination of bad/good goaltending on both sides.

9 of their remaining 12 games are at home.

They have the 2nd easiest strength of schedule (the Islanders and Blue Jackets have the 3rd and 4th hardest).

They have a decent 5 point buffer, and the tiebreaker.

They are in a very comfortable position, but some Sens fans have a bit too much emotional trauma from the past 8 years to feel comfortable.

Embarrassing loss to mighty Sabres. Is there a chance Jackets/Isles will squeeze Sens out?

it's not embarrassing to lose to the Sabres, they've beat very good teams this year and aren't as bad as the standings show. Plus it was only a 1 goal game and our goalie went Hasek on them.

And yes, the Sens will make the playoffs if I was a betting man, but it'd be hard for an inexperienced playoff squad to win a round against a contender Imo. But crazier things have happened.

They're a very streaky team often brought down by a few weaker players. Guys like Forsberg and Hamonic have accounted for many of the teams' losses including tonight. I thought the Sens were significantly better than the Sabres tonight, but it is what it is.

I think they make it still but anything could happen. Still a lot of games to be played.

Though goaltending is hard to overcome, the 19 players didn't do enough if you're blaming it on hamonic.

He sucks, but guys need to bury their chances...it's not bad luck when our players keep missing good chances...eventually it becomes a fact that they don't have the ability to finish. It might be bad luck if it happens for a few games...but all season? That's a lack of finishing ability or killer instincts.

It's like the Connor brown of teams. Breakaways every game. Scored on 1 of his 34 breakaways. Getting chances is good, but you have to bury them. If you can't, that's bad.
