Id trade him for a 7th round pick before signing him to a long term deal at 6mm aav or higherMiller was always gonna be in the 6 range as much as people overreact to his play sometimes
It's not terrible. I think we could have gotten him high 3's but it is what it is. His contract is moveable if need be in a few years
It is, it's a gamble. Paying a "low" price for someone that "could" be higher in years to come? Are we that desperate for what appears to be a sizeable upgrade over Trouba?Seems like a huge commitment based on a small sample size. Hopefully not another Drury special.
I’m under the assumption it will be 97M with his extension. 4.25%. I don’t know his comps but that’s good for a top 4 guy that helped stabilize the team and KAMI thought t the same until the news of a $97m cap came out. $4m seems fine, and almost all UFA’s get trade protection. I’d pay him and extra $200k a year for the trade protection as it’s laid out. That’s valuable

I don't HATE the move, but Schneider's time is coming and one would have thought "should have been" more of a priority to get done first. Now Schneider's agent could possibly use Borgen's contract as leverage, while stating that Brian was drafted by us, AND has played multiple seasons already for this team. Now, pay me.What about Schneider long term? I hate this move.
Goodrow was easy to move.Heard the same thing about Goodrow and Nemeth.
I'm by no means up in arms about this, but it's absolutely a significant commitment based on a small sample size.
No, now they're set with Schneider and Borgen and are going to trade HIGH on Fox, with all those years on his contract. Surely I jest, but you never know with Drury. Right? I am the king of sarcasm, and Drury is the king of stupidity.Traded to Vancouver for Petterson![]()
With the higher cap, it’s not just that cap percentage goes down, it also means every team will have a lot more cap space than expected. UFA’s are going to get crazy contracts this summer with the extra space. Wouldn’t be surprised if there are actually offer sheets with gms having more cap space than players to use it on.I’m under the assumption it will be 97M with his extension. 4.25%. I’m not happy about the deal but to suggest Borgen won’t be in the NHL at 33 is a radical take.Borgen has been a decent surprise but I am not feeling this contract at all. I am surprised Drury didn't offer him a NMC. Never change, Rangers. 5 years for a bottom pair defenseman who likely won't be in the NHL when this deal expires.

I wouldn't assume that Drury is done tinkering with the defense. Keep in mind also that 2 years ago, K'Andre put up 43 points and we were all extremely stoked about his future. He has been better of late. If he can find his way back to being that guy we saw 2 years ago, the defense as a whole will look very different.i agree with loki, vaak/ruhwedel should be 7/8 on a contending team.
The hole at LD is ever widening. Some posters here are talking about trading Miller!?
I don't think you could make up a move that guarantees Miller will be signed long term more than locking up Borgen for 5 years after they play together for 3 weeks.
No one is offer-sheeting a Rangers player. Other GMs don't want to risk souring that relationship. That’s 9 contracts on 18 million (known number) or Friedman’s speculation of 21M to 23M.
Either way offer sheets could be incoming.
Just ask Edmonton.
The sample size is much larger than Borgen's time with the Rangers. He played 233 games with Seattle before we traded for him. Those games count.Drury once again bidding against himself. This time on a player that has had a good two week run. Not the sample size you should be basing decisions on for a billion dollar corporation.
Schneider has 1 year left on his current contract, and he will be an arbitration-eligible RFA. Borgen was a pending UFA. One contract has absolutely nothing to do with the other.I don't HATE the move, but Schneider's time is coming and one would have thought "should have been" more of a priority to get done first. you're not gonna like this next partId trade him for a 7th round pick before signing him to a long term deal at 6mm aav or higher
"just do mental gymnastics and it doesn't seem all that bad!"Considering Lindgren would be 5.5 + and if not the Trouba trade, 8.0 this is a steal. Think of it like that and it’s not an issue. Now to resign Urho to a 5 year 3.0 contract for 5 years and trade Lindgren and Jones
What behind the scenes stuff? As much as I hated this trade... Borgen has been good.
And if people knew some of the behind the scene stuff with Kakko, they would understand he was likely never going to flourish here in NY.
The only regret I have is not trading him after his 18 goal 40 point season when his value was higher.
A bit more than I'd have liked to pay and a year too long but I guess you need to get some stability.
