Hayes is having pretty much identical numbers as sheary's 22 year old year. Sheary may have been a little more offensively dynamic but Hayes is a better two-way player.
The issue with stat watching.

You think Hayes is a bad two way player?
I don't think much about Hayes at all.
Sheary was pretty good with Crosby and Guentzel and a useful regular season player in general but apart from a couple big goals he was also consistently bad in the playoffs. I liked him though. As far as undrafted players the Pens signed he was by far the best.am i missing something or was conor sheary not a very useful cheap bottom 6er for a brief period before the coaching staff fell in love with him
mmm ok then dont get why you say I am stat watching then.
I watch several WBS games a year. Avery Hayes reminds me of an AHL lifer.
Sheary had a ton of skill. I don't see a comparable. Sheary also was more of an effective player in the NCAA than Hayes was in the OHL and I'm much more inclined to believe a players stat line in college hockey versus the CHL.
Fair enough. I've watched a few games recently. I don't expect Hayes to be some great NHL player but he seems better suited for the bottom 6 than sheary was if he can make it.
Hayes started the season as a 21 year old and is putting together a really good year. It is nice to see young players progress for once instead of watching them be ruined by sully.
Hayes also stood out before the season at the prospect camp too.
Unfortunately your opinion is adopted by too many decision makers within professional hockey... Where I differ is understanding that certain players elevate their game with better teammates. This is true in all sports, but I think hockey is where it is the most relevant.I just don't see anything beyond an AHLer in his game. I think people are too focused on thinking every player in WBS has potential.

I mean it’s fair but can you blame people before this year when is the last time this team had a 22 or 21 yr old hit 20 goals lol
Puustinen was 22 when he came over and hit 20 goals his first AHL season in 21-22.
I don’t get to watch AHL games, does Hayes fall down every time someone close to him farts? If not, he’s better that ShariHayes is having pretty much identical numbers as sheary's 22 year old year. Sheary may have been a little more offensively dynamic but Hayes is a better two-way player.
Yeah.. idk what the point of pontificating and predicting is. Earned a ELC. We will find out what he is.Hayes’ OHL production is pretty impressive to me. Back to back 40+ goal seasons and in 2 Championship runs combined he had 26 goals in 38 games. Now, one of those years was his overage season but he’s a late-ish birthday plus lost the entire 20-21 season due to COVID. That was also his draft year so he maybe just kinda slipped through the cracks, as Sheary did for different reasons.
You never know.. he’s probably more of an AHL/NHL tweener but there may be more there.
These guys are all lottery tickets so you gotta just collect as many as possible.
