AHL: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins: '24-'25 The Players Sully Hates

I just love how Koivunen has been scoring well at every level he's played at. He did great in the Liiga and is now doing great in the AHL.

He might be one of those guys like Guentzel where the physical attributes aren't overwhelming but he just has the hockey sense/hands/shot to succeed.

Obviously not saying he will be Jake quality, but his production is encouraging.

That would be great. I would love to be wrong about that trade, I really would. I take no pleasure in being cynical and being right about it.

I wonder if it's really his skating technique vs his lower body strength. He kinda falls down on his onetimers and it reminds me a bit of Sheary. If it's just strength that would be good because that is definitely fixable.

Honestly Jake's hands and shot are great and while his skating isn't pretty nor that fast he uses his feet well to collect pucks. Combine all that with his brain and you've got an elite skill set

Yeah I think Guentzel's physical skills aren't overwhelming, the dude just has a monstrously high hockey IQ and knows exactly how to find soft spots to score goals. This isn't to diminish his skills, he does have a great shot and hands, but it's really his hockey IQ that makes him an elite complementary guy.

I think Koivunen is different where he's a more traditional "skill guy" if that makes sense. I think his playstyle is more similar to someone like Tomasino, where he makes high-skill plays to get production rather than how Guentzel got production.

It’s encouraging.

Would be huge if we get a top six winger out of that trade.
