Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

Maybe Briere is looking to bring in Miller?

34 pages of comments so no one really needs mine but this seems like larceny on Calgary's part but I may be looking at in a vacuum of individual player value for value. That said, I have no idea what's really going on with either team so...I guess I will be objective and wait and see how this turns out for both sides. If I was Calgary, I would be excited. If I was Philly, I would be praying right now.

I mean Torts took a team of nothing and almost made the playoffs last year. I don't think the hate for him is as warranted as people make it out to be. His team isn't laid out to be a Cup contender, yet this is the second year in a row he's coaching a competitive team.

You forgot the part where they completely quit on him at the end of last year when he made Coots the captain and then scratched him a day later.

The hate is neither exaggerated or unwarranted.

He also thought Pelletier, who cleared waivers in December, had value
This is such a stupid f***ing narrative that needs to stop.

Yes, he cleared waivers... he was playing scared after injuries last season, but being sent down to the Wranglers helped him re-find his pre-injury game again. Since he put up 19 points in 20 games on the farm, them when recalled he played his way up from the 4th line to the 1st line (he also did the same thing in the WJC) and has looked really good with Huberdeau and Kadri. To top it off Pelts is the kind of player coaches love, he is scrappy, plays hard, can play in every situation and is a glue guy with an infectious attitude off the ice.

The other fun part of this trade is that it continues the Phil Kessel trade tree via Lindholm and Kuzmenko

No matter what you think of Frost and Farabee, they are legitimate NHLers.

Frost, in particular, is a legitimate NHL centre who’s 25 and makes $2.1M, and may be signed to a much lower number than he should have been because his coach nerfed his offense.

Farabee is a lock for close to 40 points every year, he’s 24, and he doesn’t miss games. He’s signed for three more years at… $5M a year? That’s not even Josh Anderson Money.

Pelletier and Kuzmenko have had a hot ten days. At Christmas, they had been complete non-factors the entire season.

I’ve never seen my team sell high on anyone like they’ve done here. Amazing.
The worst part of Farabee's time under Torts is that he often went out of his way to fight to impress the fossil in charge, even though he had the same neck surgery Eichel had, and probably shouldn't be doing that.

In order for this to work out for the Flyers, either Pelletier has to take a big step forward and become a Farabee level player or Farabee has to not recover from Torts and play well below his $5 million contract. Seems like there are some pretty big contingencies involved to make this a good trade for the Flyers.

The flyers have nothing but glue and scrappy.

They need skill and to be allowed to play. Michkov didn’t play the final 28 minutes last night because of one turnover. He had 8 minutes total up to that.

Loving this deal for us. We really gave up nothing and added some younger guys with upside that can stick around in the future. Still.. question the approach as we don't have any elite players, but I don't think these two will help the fall out that will most likely happen next year.. really want to be in the Mckenna sweepstakes and not fighting for WC2.

Was it the turnover or was it the arguing on the bench that caused that?

So he is a 1st liner now?

Both narratives are stupid. He is a fringe NHLer , not good enough to be on the top line full time, not big enough to provide much else.

He is almost as old as Farabee but did much less.

Of course, he may magically turn his career around but current he has not much value

His issue is size. If he was bigger he’d be a sure fire top 6 guy imo but he has struggled in the NHL at times because he is small. I hope he figures it out, he is a character

Frost ($2.1M)
Farabee ($5M)

for

Kuzmenko ($5.5M)
Pelletier ($800K)

That would only save the Flyers $800K, that's not all that meaningful.
Farabee has 4 years remaining. Kuzmenko is on an expiring deal.

Monumental cap relief.

I agree Torts needs to change his way (he won't), I'm just tired of seeing "a guy who cleared waiver recently" as a way to dismiss Pelletier as trash.

Pelts also has some skill, I think he'd actually be a good fit with Michkov if he gets that chance. He's good at moving the puck and can provide a 2-way presence on that line.

Torts is the problem. Not the players that were traded in this trade. Most fans of the team are so over the whole organization.

Michkov gets benched every other game. They don’t let him make mistakes or be creative.

Farabee’s skill and Frost ability to create and be a center iceman is what we need and what we’ll miss.

I sure hope Pelts somehow develops becoming a center and skilled overnight. Cause if not there’s a lot of fans he won’t impress.

I’m not saying Frost and Farabee are gods gift. But Briere got bent the f*** over in this trade and there’s no other way to spin it.

Don't think Pelts has ever played centre even dating back to junior.
But you guys will love him. Little spark plug, plays a 200 foot game, he's constantly hugging or kissing teammates, like a glue guy for sure.

I was really bummed out when he was part of the package, because I felt he was going to be a part of the team for a long time. The sting hurts less when we learned what the return was going to look like.

I think Pelts could be a solid middle 6 LW on a good team in the NHL. Like if Pelts is your 3LW you don't have any issues with that.

Can't be mad on a Flames POV with that trade though, added a lot of skill at really an insignificant cost.
