AHL: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins: '24-'25 The Players Sully Hates

I got caught napping and had to film the replay. Hayes penalty shot attempt after LV covered the puck in the crease.

LV isn’t very good but they play pretty damn hard. With Laperriere and Jason Smith on the bench it’s kind of no wonder why.

Their D in particular is pretty nasty. Haven’t watched them this year but that was my takeaway the last few seasons, and in the POs. They like to step up on guys for big hits.

Kinda made me wonder if Smith might make a good assistant for our soft-as-baby-shit defense. Especially as we start integrating younger D-men.

Koivunen takes a big open ice hit, Katchouk jumps the guy and gets 2+5+10 for instagating. Johnstone and Gruden get a 2on1, Gruden hits the post, LV gets a partial breakaway and scores. 3-1, WBS kills the rest of the 5min PK.
Benstrom, Gruden, Puus, Koi, Pom, Poulin would all be better options than plugs like Nieto and Accari or HAYES..... Sully is obscene

You think Sully would stand for that? His idea of playing hard is putting your stick in their shooting lane.

Don't worry. Koppanen will be our next call up, he can centre Nieto and Acciari while they play 15 minutes a game.

I honestly think sending Pickering down (along with not calling up a guy like Ponomarev) was just a signal that the team is tanking and they would rather the good young players play on a good AHL team than a shitty NHL one.

Or they're just stupid, very possible.

I'm not against having Pickering back in the AHL, will help him develop the offensive side of his game. Ponomarev should definitely be given a shot if Geno's out. I'd like Nieto fired into the sun and maybe Gruden given a shot.

Yea Nieto is the definition of a wasted spot. Acciari is basically that too. Literally just Glass and Adams all over again, except Nieto is slightly better than Glass and Adams was better defensively than Acciari.

Damn, four assists for Koivunen. 2nd in rookie scoring in the AHL, guy ahead of him is almost two years older.
A little misleading since he’s played a couple seasons of pro hockey already but definitely encouraging.

I hope he gets a few games at the end of the season just as taste of the NHL. I absolutely don’t want him playing extended time on the 4th line and the press box.

Hot take - regardless of what the higher up reasoning is…

I’d rather Pickering and then McG/Broz/Pono/Koivunen and even Bemstrom (bc he’s their best player) stay down in WBS and have fun and win games and play big roles.
It would be good to just keep our next group away from Sully. Don’t even give him the chance to turn them into turds.

Who am I kidding. He’ll still be here long after Koivunen clears waivers after 4 years in WBS and 40 games in the NHL playing 5 mins a night with Matt Nieto.

I'm very glad WBS is playing well and the players are developing together. I'm very pessimistic that it will continue at the NHL level with Sullivan as head coach.

May start watching the baby Pens more from here on out until Sullivan is gone.
