All I'm saying is to make the Jets make a great play to beat you. Dubnyk has made hundreds of saves tougher than that one in his Minnesota career, including numerous ones in that very game.

We aren't going to out-talent them, so we need to beat them in other ways, and one of those ways is to be as perfect as we can in every facet that we can control. That goal, with 7 or so minutes left in a tie game in the 3rd period, was a controllable play.

And i think that kind of thinking shows a lack of understanding of the position. He's moving and the puck changes direction. Yes it is unscreened but it still makes him have to adjust and that is easier said than done when you are setting up for a shot to go one place and it goes another. Its unfortunate but to say he HAS to stop it is ridiculous.
Since you have now twice implied that you understand how the position should be played, would you mind answering these 2 questions?
1. Where is Dubnyk's stick during this shot?
2. Why is it there?

And IMO...it's not as controlled as you think it was. He's pushing hard from right to left and the puck gets deflected back towards him. So he has to attempt to stop his momentum...hence why the stick comes upq...not easy and close a five hole that for a 6'5" goalie is going to be larger than most...and do it in less than a second. A smaller goalie might have been able to get that done but IMO that is not something Dubnyk can do as easily...not without injury anyway.

I dont see how people can blame Dubnyk for anything last night. Laine is a sniper and he was given WAY too much room and he hammered it. Not on Dubs. 3rd goal...yes a deflection but still...deflections are never easy stops and it leaked through. It happens. Thos3 blaming him IMO have never played goal and seem to think it's easier than it is.
The issue was a lack of scoring chances...especially after we took the lead. One shot after it was 2-1? Nothing with that much time in the zone with an empty net? Pathetic.
Dubs was the best player on the ice. That was a 5-2 game.

Jets are a very big team... We got out heads kicked in last year by St. Louis and I could see this series heading that way again. Folingo and Greenway mitigate that some. This wild team is a decent team like always...decent, however when you are in the playoffs and playing the best teams decent doesn't get it done.

I see both sides both as a goalie of 14 years and a goalie coach and a observer/fan

Side one: It's not an easy save on a redirection especially when you're moving in one direction. It's literally a split second reaction. Even if the puck is heading towards the stomach and it gets re-directed down just a couple inches to the 5-hole. Tips/redirections are, in my opinion, the most difficult shot a goalie could face.

Side two: Now, Dubs has been playing great and is out playing Hellebuyck but those are the saves that gotta be made if a goalie is going to steal some games for his over-matched team. We've all saw goalies steal games in the playoffs and we've faced A LOT of them in the past 5-6 years.

Easy save? Heck no. Save that has to be made? Yes, especially in the playoffs when our only chance is Dubs stealing games.

Can't put any blame on him, however. Not for that goal.

As a goalie/goalie coach let me ask you a question. If Dubnyk's stick is where it's supposed to be, does that puck go in?

If the Jets get in late and they don't cancel the game, they only have themselves to blame for the chaos. Everyone has known about this storm for days. They had storm watches out two days ago. The severity of it was discussed very early on. Whoever is in charge of making travel plans for the Jets screwed the pooch royally. Complete moron. Not flying out right after the game last night was beyond stupid.

It was a low shot even before the re-direction so there's no reason his stick shouldn't have been covering his 5-hole as he went into the butterfly. That's certainly squirt level Goalie 101 right there.

Looking back at it in slow-mo 10-12 times....I'm changing my mind and saying that's a save that should have been made. Tricky save? Yes. But if his stick is covering the 5-hole instead of over by this right knee while going down, I believe the puck hits the stick.

I agree. Another goalie question if you don't mind? What's your opinion on the style that Dubnyk is using where he's keeping his glove low and trying to stop upper corner shots with his shoulder? Drives me f***ing insane

Do you mean when he's against the post?

He does it all the time. whenever someone tries to shoot high glove, he shrugs his shoulder to make the save. Leaving his glove down closer to his waist.

Me too. My uneducated opinion is Dubnyk's glove is slow so he uses a should shrug instead to stop the puck. I hate it so much and I think that is why he had a tough time with the third goal in game one. It reminds me a lot of Lundqvist with his headbutting of the puck

Using the shoulder allows for better rebound control and a chance to catch and freeze the puck on the way down. You bring the glove in front of the shoulder and don't catch it cleanly it opens up that entire glove side to be scored on.

It's how they teach young goalies now. They want them to play like a catcher on a ball in the dirt and not a shortstop. That's how it was explained to me at one of the kid's goalie camps. Everything is position and recovery time, not the Hasek/Quick mad scramble to stop everything.

Does anyone think the game could get postponed tomorrow? There are some forecasts that predict it will snow most of the day tomorrow too.

It would probably be better for the Wild if they didn't. Less Jets fans and more Wild fans in the seats.

Unless it just starts dumping 6 feet of snow in the span of a couple of hours, or the airport is closed and the Jets can't get in. I don't see why it would be canceled. If this same weather happened in Dec-Feb would the game be canceled?

It depends how long it goes tomorrow and/or if it stops for a while. If it snows continuously through like 5pm tomorrow, it could happen.

This isn't directed at you, and I'm sure people much smarter than me have thought this through, but that sounds like a terrible concept. Catch the f'n thing and there's no rebound to control. Why put a fishing net on your hand if you're not going to use it?

For kids starting at goalie, most are really weak with their gloves. It's muscle memory training after awhile. Also for redirects or random bounces off people moving the arm/glove infront of the body makes more room for the puck to find a way to squeak through. You basically have 2 body parts covering the same area of the net front. I dunno, it's how they are teaching the position nowadays. :dunno: USA hockey goes through some goalie training stuff if you ever want to check it out.

There are things I don't agree with, but the collective experience of the coaches outweighs mine exponentially. So I just kind of go with it.

I've been through 3 of the seminars, but apparantly made it through before any of those changes. Neither of the goalies on my sons team play that way.

Be as big as you can be, and square up to whoever has the puck. Catch/blocker it if it's outside of your body, otherwise use your body then cover.

I dunno, they are starting to teach kids to shoot for the 7 and 11 holes now, so maybe it's a response to that.

11? I've seen/heard guys talk about 6 and 7. never heard more than that.
