i guess i feel we've been down this road before signing parise & suter didn't bring a cup to minny. trading for havlat ; heatly ; vanek & pommer didn't solve our problems. using valuable cap space to add a player that might make season ticket holders a bit happier but wont dig us out of the central cellar doesn't really make sense to me. what if zucc is the difference between a top 5 pick vs 12-14 pick?
To be fair, we only got Heatley so we could get rid of Havlat, and for all my complaints about Heater, he was much better than Havlat. I agree with your point, in general, though. Nothing against Zucarrello, but he is going to get worse, not better, that NMC might end up being a killer, and really, what does it get the team going forward?

Much more significant or the missing piece?
I would think that most of us understand that a team needs multiple pieces acquired in multiple ways to put together a Cup team. I was just trying to point out that thinking drafting high and the forgoing of any free agents wouldn't work.

I'm still worried that Wild will still miss the sweet spot with this retooling. Again.

Like earlier, young guns didn't develop fast enough. And the veterans are not getting any younger as 57 mentioned.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Stumble across a couple billion dollars and you can buy your own team to make bad on purpose. It’s Leipold’s (wife’s) money. He can do what he wants with it.

The same people that want us to be bad aren’t going to be the ones to go watch a bad team.

I mean I cheered the Timberwolves up until last year and had enough with the Butler debacle. But yeah, I want to cheer for mediocrity. It's like cheering for the early 2000s Twins. Get to the playoffs only to get blown out by a superior team in the Yankees.

Cheering is one thing. You going to go buy a $90 ticket to go watch a 25 win team?

Since I don't live in Minnesota, that'd be a bit foolish. But I'd still buy Wild gear and merchandise. I'd support a team that won 25 games, if they at least showed they had some sort of plan or were realistic about expectations.

Or, basically, if they did "what I want them to do". Even though if your "plan" ends up not working, it's no skin off your ass, just people you don't know and have never met probably losing millions of dollars. Oh well.

How is it possible to even say this?

Where did I say that? Also what happens when this plan that he enacts doesn't work and yet he keeps doing it for over 10 years?

A Norwegian reporter talked to team president Matt Majka about Zuccarello. Well spent money, he said.

"Mats is expensive because he's an amazing player. We get what we pay for. If you're a very good player, you get paid as a very good player. We have no problems spending a lot of money on a great player, but also a great person. When we go after a player we think will fit our team, has the correct personality and is a brilliant player, then we don't hesitate spending money".

But I'd say Zucc has put a lot of pressure on himself, it's like they all expect him to save this team. Anyway, I'm sure he'll play 110% every shift in an effort to do that, just like he made the Stars a better team. Zucc said he looks at this as a new challenge, really looking forward to play for the Wild.

I would guess that's the Norwegian press trying to make a bigger deal out of this than it really is. I can tell you that no one around here is expecting anything like that.

Guys is a multi billionaire on his own. His wife has around 2x as much in net worth as he does.

Right here:

Where do I say that I wouldn't be bothered? Or that I don't care? They have been signing free agents and trading for them the past 11 years, and what have they accomplished with that? 1st Round Exits and continued questions...You know the definition of insanity is? Keep trying something over and over again and thinking it's going to work.

Not a single person is expecting Zucc to be even remotely close to anything that resembles a "savior". We're hoping he can replace the skilled playmaking/puck handling we lost when we traded away Granlund to hopefully get back to where we were... and then hopefully we'll see progress in the youth and then more when Kaprizov and Boldy come around to possibly have a chance at being a real contender.

He said you have nothing riding on your "plan" if it doesn't work... hence - no skin off your ass. Meanwhile, those actually involved with the team have millions of $$'s riding on the issue, so they're going to be a little more pragmatic about it.

Don't like this deal for the Wild, or Zucc. Terrible for Zucc actually, signing for a team that should be rebuilding.
As a Norwegian, still waiting for the first ever Norwegian Stanley Cup winner, its sad that our one great player choose money and term over chances to win a cup.
That said I'll still support Zucc, he is a truely fantastic person and hocky player.
Kind off agreed here. Would he's chans for a Cup be significantly better in Dallas? Or just his points total?

No.

Wild are not a contender. But neither is Dallas. They do have Seguin though.

The team that took the eventual Cup winning Blues to the 2nd overtime of game 7 isn't at least a contender? Sure their roster has changed a little, but not that much. What they've lost, they've also replaced with capable players.

We aren't a contender on paper, but we'll have to wait and see if any of the kids take a big step forward. That could change things pretty dramatically. I wouldn't bank on it (or sign a contract in the hopes of it, like Zuccarello has), but it's certainly possible.

Of course it's possible. I can't stand these negative people who think the Wild will end up in the dungeons forever just because they were 7 points from a playoff spot this year.

Zuccarello will help a lot, there's no doubt about that. He makes every player around him better, and he'll be a huge upgrade on the powerplay. He'll also introduce a new and better culture in the locker room, I understand that's something they really need here.

With this in mind I hope and believe the kids will also start shining, and the Wild should become a contender.
