Prospect Info: Wild Prospect Thread 2024 25

Seems really early to be trading Ohgren. Ya, he wasn't great when he was up here, but that's normal for young prospects in their first go round. He's doing very well in the AHL, and he is only going to get better. He might not be a 1st liner, but i can see him being a middle six guy producing 25g, 25a in the NHL. That's valuable, especially for team lthat needs all the young stalent it can get. Old guys get injured, and/or fade.

I think some people are just desperate for change like we need to do something now to fix something fast. Yet when we look around we have all kinds of examples of being patient with guys working out.

Going to be a big part of Buffalo next year.

Why does BUF want him? I'm not knocking Ohgren here. Just genuinely curious when they have so many of their own FWD prospects.

Is this a swap for Quinn so each team can reunite JRs linemates Ohgren/Oslund and Rossi/Quinn?

I liked his game when he was the emergency call up. He seems on the verge of being a guy that can score 20 in the NHL.

The quick answer is that BUF doesn't need him. They need NHL'ers, not more prospects. The Quinn/Ohgren thing only makes sense if quinn has told BUF he wants out.

One other thing about Kap. His next contract will start when he is in his declining years. Odds are, we have seen the best he has to offer.

Did anyone else read the Wallstedt article? Sounds like he let the goalie rotation letdown linger until midseason and had some injuries/concussion? (I skimmed)

Getting the rug pulled out from under him at the start of the season definitely had an impact on him.

We're slowly ruining the kid.

If he's that soft mentally that he can't take a bit of competition then he'll never be a good NHL goalie. Every player has to beat out others to get a NHL spot.

It's not like he went down and was playing well in the AHL. He had a terrible season, relative to expectations.

I agree and disagree. On the one hand, he does need to be mentally strong in the face of adversity when it arises, or he won't make it as a starter in the NHL. Skilled guys who have a lack of mental resiliency tend to end up being backups.

That said, his own team artificially creating additional adversity is not something a player should expect, and therefore it'll be harder to deal with. The people who should have your best interests at heart causing you that adversity unnecessarily is obviously going to be much harder to deal with mentally and emotionally than having a rough patch of play is. We can handle one problem at a time, and we can probably handle two problems at once. We can't handle problems from every direction at once. We need someone to have our back when it gets that bad, and the Wild were one of those problems, not someone who helped him handle those problems.

It wasn't about him not beating Gus or MAF out of a spot. It was that they were going to run with 3 goalies and trashed the idea at the last minute due to the cap. He starts to plan on starting the season up here based on their words, yet they yank his chain.

If that's the worst adversity the kid has to face, he's lived and will live a VERY privileged life.
