There's been a ton of smoke on Ottawa wanting Fiala for a few months now. Ottawa was noted scouting Minnie hard a few months back and I believe Dorion personally attended games himself.

A few writers(one from Athletic) have mentioned strong interest as well (for a few seasons now)--indicated it's an offseason deal with Minnie being in contention now. Ottawa's also been heavily rumored to be a primary destination for Giroux this off-season with both parties showing serious interest.

However, Ottawa seems to really like Fiala and might opt for both.

What's it going to take? Sorry if this has recently been covered.

(I personally can see a 3 way trade with Connor Brown going another team and top 10 protected 1st +2nd going to Minne + Ottawa 2nd and JBD with Fiala going to Ottawa--Ottawa then pursues Giroux as well).

With what heppened to the 1st in the Duchene trade, I don t think the OTT 1st gets moved… Fiala should command a high return but I am not sure what his next contract will look like

So your proposal is OTT 1st (top 10 protectedt) + OTT 2nd + 2nd + JBD for Fiala? Or did I misunderstand your post?

It’s going to be hefty I think.

1st round pick (top 10 protected) + Ridly Greig + Jacob Bernard-Docker.

I’m rather high on Greig, it still might not be enough. Fiala is a great add. I don’t know how these futures are going to help Minny though.

I think this is higher than most Wild fans expect at this point. I would personally do this if we're set on trading Fiala. My first preference would be to move Zuccarello, then Dumba before Fiala though.

Since it’s such a futures heavy package I believe Minnesota is going to ask for a fair bit more than market value going their way.

Especially since our team has already shown a tonne of interest.

So in theory, a package with 1st (top X protected) + prospect (whether it's Greig, JBD, whoever) + Connor Brown probably makes sense because we get a cheaper "Fiala replacement", the prospect and pick we want, Ottawa opens up some cap space and a roster spot for Fiala. Minnesota can afford Brown at 3.6 for one year, and he can just slide into Fiala's spot in our lineup.

If Ottawa doesn't want to give Brown the money he'll command as an upcoming UFA and would prefer to throw big money at Fiala instead, I could see a Brown + prospects/picks deal for Fiala.

Brown has been excellent the past couple seasons and he only makes 3.6M next year. Wild should be able to fit him in as a replacement LW/RW.

Connor brown is a free agent after next year like fiala and Minnesota would be better off keeping fiala then. As for the Zuccarello and you wanting to move dumba, been reported our gm has seemed to all but made decision to not keep fiala

Sounds about right.

Bernard-Docker and Greig are miles apart for me though.

Isnt the entire reason for trading him because Minny is in Cap hell due to the Parise/Suter buyouts though?

Yes. I think part of it is also because fiala pissed off Guerin last summer and he has a habit of moving on from player's who aren't team friendly in terms of money.

Is there reason to believe Fiala is interested in signing an extension in Ottawa? Because Ottawa isn't in a position to be pursuing costly rentals.

I would hope that Ottawa's 1st would have to be in it.

I don't want to make the return too high, but that Hagel trade has thrown me for a loop. I know there's other considerations (age, contract), but Fiala is twice the player that Hagel is.

Fiala "pissing off" Guerin says more about Guerin than it does Fiala, and Guerin has handed out plenty of non team friendly deals already.

Fiala QO is somewhere around $5.5 million
probably heading to Arb and if he gets awarded more than that Wild will have some serious cap issues. With 56 pts in 63 games I definitely see him getting more than $5.5

they are at just over 72 million without Fiala and need to sign 3 D - 1 G - and 3 F's not including Fiala

I mean I think in a way I understand. Like is fiala worth 7, 8, or 9 mil per year? What is interesting is fiala's agent represents dumba, mcBain whose already been dealt. With dumba buying a home here recently in eden prairie, let me just preface this with saying my uncle, aunt are his next door neighbors. I could very much see him take a discount. The big issue could be the agent.
