Confirmed with Link: Wild acquire Gustav Nyquist in exchange for 2026 2nd Round Pick

Personally, not a fan of this move. Would’ve rather added and gone after a younger option that was already under contract (Cozens) or that we could extend (Boeser).

Guess we’ll see if there’s additional moves. Think this all but guarantees that at least one of Ek or Kap are gone until the playoffs though.
 
Not sure what our lines look like when Hartman is back, but they still don’t look great. This doesn’t look like a roster you waste a 2nd round pick on to make a run in the playoffs.

It's not like MaJo is setting the bar high, to be honest.

It's a "meh" deal imo. We need some breath of fresh air from outside but I'm not sure if Nyquist can provide that. Wild need quality & talent, they've already got enough depth guys for too much money imo.

This is not the Nyquist of a couple of years ago. I get that Guerin is trying to reverse the course of a team that has gone veering off line, but a 2nd seems steep, to me. If only BG hadn't signed a passel of nondescript, aging veterans to NMC's, and had the ability to move them out. Seems like a panicky move that is trying to atone for what is increasingly looking like a mid, rather than late 1st in the jiricek deal. Throws good money after bad, IMO.

Anyone else getting Fletcher vibes with these deals throwing away draft picks?

If Kap and Ek are back in time, then I agree.

The issue I have is that I’m not sure if this is the year to use up assets on rentals, especially with all of the injuries. Next year we’re probably going to have our best chance at a cup & I’d rather save assets for TDL moves at that time when we actually have cap space (that isn’t the result of LTIR).

Ironically, I think Guerin is now in a position where I think he actually has to make more moves at this TDL to justify spending a 2nd round pick.

I don’t get why we needed the retention. If Ek and Kap are both back before the playoffs, we’re over the cap with or without the retention.

Think this has to mean he’s going to be bringing in more than just Nyquist.

Edit: I may be wrong about that actually. Looks like we may have enough cap space if we send one of Lauko/Virus down. Not sure how this is accurate though, it looked like this team was going to have around $40k in TDL cap a few weeks ago. Not sure where they accrued enough to take on an additional $1.6M contract.
