hot damn we looked like a bantam team playing a ushl squad...pissed down our leg all night. couldn't hit the net to save our lives. couldn't generate pressure in the least once they grabbed control. just puked all over ourselves for 60 mins. kid line might as well have been mites dressed.

the 10 game run was great and all but if we're gonna blow chunks in the games that really mean something ie pitt and wash this thing ain't goin nowhere.

sure the refs boned us but we had pp's too, even created a bunch of good looks. then we missed the net by 30 feet or tossed a muffin into kuempers logo. every team has off nights but to have a total no show against a team that began the night one pt behind says a lot about where this team is. by far the most concerning thing was the way we let the ice get tilted against us - first half+ we were in total control of play but they got the joke 5 on 3 call and capitalized and we couldn't get one. but once they got 2 and 3 we just folded like a buffalo table. absolutely no fight. never saw that surrender last year, that took the game from one more stupid loss to an new level of embarrassing. losses happen but seeing a team of cowards with not a bit of fight to them made this unwatchable. maybe they pull it together, but seeing that egg get laid in a game that meant as much as this standings wise idno....just hard to think there's any guts it would take to win any game that really mattered. at least against a roster that isn't primarily ahl call ups

They always suck after a break longer than 2 days, wonder why
It's a New York thing. Been this way for decades. They always play crappy at home during the holidays and before the All Star Break.

Too much family and holiday eating. Takes them a few extra days to get their head out of their asses.

On the road is a different story.

My take on the game. First period was generally pretty good and by far their best period. Second period was even until late. Third period was pathetic. Somehow the officiating was worse. PP was too predictable again. Kuemper was loaded on his left skate all night looking for the cross ice pass to Mika.

Too many missed shots on net, and coaches WAY too quick to juggle lines that were generating chances through most of the first 2 periods, which probably contributed to the disorder in the third. Gauthier deserved more ice time than he got. Chytil was probably our best forward tonight.

I tend to think we look fine to good and competitive, but our weakness comes through when we play more veteran teams that take away the middle of the ice. We got some decent chances but we are often quite poor at winning in the paint consistently. Caps used their physicality all night to take away their blue paint. And bullied their way into ours.

I quite honestly think this is happening because we have too many forwards that need to be reminded constantly about winning the netfront battles. It’s just not consistently in our game. When we’re bad we look like a team that sets up for threes, can’t hit any and wouldn’t know how to get an offensive rebound if they tried. Gotta be able to win the highly contested parts of the ice.

Reffing is going to continue to look bad if we continue to look soft.

100% agreed. If some of those shots we generated actually hit the net, we might actually get a goal or two and the game looks way different.

I'm just scared with what Gallant is going to do with our lines against Tampa.

Stinky game all around. Nothing in sync at all, soft plays all over the ice, flubbed pucks and passes in everyone’s skates and of course a comical amount of missing the net.

Rough game but it’s just one, hopefully no overreactions and they can come back with a strong effort on Thursday.

But it's not only one game. We've seen all of this a lot this season especially against structured teams. When do we admit it's a systemic issue?

That third goal was a comedy of unforced errors, starting with GG's desperate challenge on a clearly 50/50 call. The goal came in the period right after killing the penalty. It also highlighted typical weaknesses. Trocheck tried to solo the puck through the neutral zone, which he and Chytil do a lot since the team's transition is ridiculously weak. Trocheck then coughed up the puck at the offensive blue creating a counterattack through the neutral zone, Kakko and Trouba were soft on the blue line, Trouba backed up too deep and Igor didn't make the save on a pretty routine shot (maybe Trouba screened him).

The root problem is poor coaching that leads to poor organization on the ice that leads to players playing like individuals rather than supporting each other as a team. All other issues follow. This is especially noticeable in games where the Rangers are asked to attack against defending teams. The Rangers look better as the counter attacking team, like most teams in the league do.

I'm convinced those of us that watched the whole game are sadistic.
Especially since it was obvious we were going to get shut out.
We need to sell the rest of our home games and play away instead.
I had just come off a 32 hour shift, and I watched the entire game before going to bed. After they didn’t cash in on the PP early in the third my wife kept telling me I was insane and to just go to bed.

Im glad the Rangers extended their break another 2 days. It will be good for them in the long run!

Complete no show last night.

I got a lot of replies in the Islander post game thread about the window being only 1-2 years vs developing players. Im struggling to see why so many on this board want to develop young guys who frankly have shown limited potential vs giving it a shot in the next 2 seasons while this group is still together. Even if everything plays out basically perfectly and Kappo and Laf turn into 30 goal scorers this season( miracle at best)the window only gets smaller!

Laf, Kappo, Chytil, Lindgren, Kravstov and Schneider are all only under contract through next season. So unless all those guys take massively undervalued contracts there is no chance on this planet, or any other planet the Rangers can afford this current roster beyond the 23-24 season. It’s really very easy to see that the time for a push is now. If you wait all you are doing is doing this push with older veterans and 2 or maybe 3 of the guys above.

Im not saying developing young players better than they’ve developed the two top 5 picks should not be something the organization does better. Instead I’m trying to add in some perspective that is based in reality of the types of decisions that lie ahead for the Rangers organization.

I‘m having trouble feeling confident that this group can make a deep playoff run. We shouldn’t be juggling lines at this point in the season to see what works. Or to find out ‘Lineup A’ was successful vs. one team but we needed to use ‘Lineup B’ vs. another.

It's not a personnel issue. We have good individual players. We have a team that needs to play with team speed and puck movement but we have coaches that wants to be careful with the puck in terms of areas of the ice and who value brawn over speed and puck movement. This sometimes good/sometimes bad start/stop team we see is the result.

Rangers no-show on home ice and an epic Knicks collapse probably has Dolan seething.

NHL officiating remains shockingly bad. The Caps getting a 2 minute 5 on 3 for a phantom slash and a blatant dive by Ovechkin changed the complexion of the game. No call on Ovi for waterskiing Chytil, no call on Irwin for a slewfoot on Gauthier and no goalie interference but according to the refs there was contact? Makes sense! Embarrassing for the league that this is the product we get on a nightly basis.

All that being said, the Rangers were soft, didnt hit the nets, and lines that we thought would look great were awful. The lines Gallant put together to spark the team were somehow even worse. Every mistake Trouba makes is an immediate goal and I thought Kravtsov & Lafreniere in particular had awful games doing too much. Both guys are the worst player on their lines, yet tried to make plays with the puck on their stick all night and failed. Both need to learn how to play off their more talented linemates better, especially Kravtsov. Laf is still lost in the woods away from the puck.

All in all just more of the same from the team when they were at their worst, so 2 steps forward, 1 step back I guess. See you Thursday.

It all starts with 3 of our highest paid 'vets' and 'leaders'.

Panarin
Zibs
Trouba

The 3 dogshits of the game
LMAO...3 ? You are being generous . Outside of Gauthier and Brodz.....not much effort...all with turkey legs....well maybe Panarin on a 4 day drunk as that is what it looked like . When he is poison....he cannot hide it . They likely saved on some hot water last night as MSG as showers would not be needed . Oh well....they mailed it in . Caps were flying.
that's horrific.
Unfortunately we have a lot of guys that take losing on home ice lightly . If we can't be tough at least be a bit resilient on home ice . We are so soft once again . Our stick checking game was bad....LOL....

One team also shot a lot of wide.
They were trying to correct the seemingly endless array of posts and crossbars.
For the past 2 months, we've been complaining about that, now......we're going to complain about shooting wide? Jeez, the Rangers just cannot win here. :help:

I promise I wont goof around in practice and will be better next game. View attachment 627242
And then you wonder WHY he didn't want to be Captain?
