Just in regards to Brock Nelson. Apparently he’s going to sign with the Wild in the offseason. No source, but a badly kept secret in a few spots on the internet.

So don’t get your hopes up.

Good.

He'll be 34 to start next season. Can we maybe try and sign someone who isn't on the back 9 of their career and entering their mid 30s?

He would be the best free agent fit for this team IMO. Big defensively responsible center whos old enough you dont have to give term.

On a 2 year deal, maybe. But he's a big guy at 6-4 and bigger guys tend to decline fast and hard.

I'd rather give more term if that's what it takes to get someone like Boeser or Ehlers. At least they'd be 28 and 29 to start next season.

Don't be shocked if players like that extract out more years than anyone would like. Chris Tanev got 6 years because the Leafs were desperate for a solid RHD at a good cap hit. Teams will deal with any future pain later if they think they're a guy away from a Cup next year. I'm sure Nashville would have loved to give an obviously declining 34 year old Stamkos a 2-year deal, but he still finagled 4 years at at a high number.

I could see Misa doing a year at Michigan if he isn't actively prevented in some ways by the OHL or the CHL-NHL Transfer Agreement. He almost did a Tender with the Steel/Commit to Michigan like Power and Fantilli before he got Exceptional Status into the OHL. Jump on after the college year ends and get some games at the end of 2025-26.
He’s been linked to BU. We’ll see if it actually happens

No, actually.
Moore, Greene or Boisvert aren't enough already? That's without thinking about the less talked about guys we have and don't expect to make it.

One will make it there. I'd rather get another 18 year old to keep them flowing in a bit later.
You can always sign a Bottom 6 Center, you can keep Dickinson if you want that. Why trade him for a new Dickinson?

I like Minten, but that's not a return I'd be looking at for a 2 million depth piece that can help about any team looking for depth while being cheap.

Can never have enough
that's different than saying we don't have enough of those guys.

We have them, we actually currently have them as older versions on the roster. We have them as prospects and with lots of picks we can draft more of them.
I'd rather gamble on something bigger with hitting on a pick than get a guy we already have and would have no problem in adding to the team.

Donato is the best trade chip the Hawks have right now. There's nothing wrong with a prospect spread, or else you start log-jamming and leading to situations where it's easier to pick the wrong guy, and then with a spread, if you start improving, you can have a steady stream of cheap depth/trade assets for a while. There's nothing wrong with Minten. He's just not a high enough ceiling guy to be an exciting use of a good trade chip when they have other guys like that in the system.

Center is the only position you can't have a logjam of. Because they can just be moved to wing.

Wingers can't become centers. D can't necessarily play their off side. Only 2 goalies on a roster.

If you think you can get something better than Minten for Donato, go for it. But I'm not convinced.

A 1st round pick in this year's weak draft is worse than Minten. So you'd have to get like two 1st round picks for Donato... good luck with that.

Just not seeing where the Minten love comes from, his career highlight is that he's played 19 games for the Leafs. In all likelihood just a guy that wouldn't be prioritized as a must internal sign when he's UFA years in six years or whatever, so may as well cycle though. You can draft a Minten with one of any number of your picks that hit.

I cannot believe Carolina have up so mich just for a rental.. zsurely they intend to sign Rantanen before he gets to UFA.

With cap going up plus they probably do notvre-sign both Burns and Orlovvwjpvarevgeezers going UFA if notcre-signed..my hunchbisvonly 1 gets re-signrx and maybe even for a discount..
so they shoukd have plenty of money remaining to give Tantanen the noh bocks he wants SND forv9 srsdons not 8 as Haekscwould be limited to (or anybothercteam except Carolina).
..

Thecquedtionnon Marner is only if thr Leafs insist no one makes more than Mathews
.so if Marner wants $15million or even closecto max 19 million contract maybe Leafs forced to pay $3'-5 million more per year forv8.morevyears of Marner to head off other team goingv$16-19 million per for 7 seasons with Marner?

CoukdvLeafs pay hom that much...yes ..maybevtradongboff a vontract like Morgan Reilly and cheaper replace that soot ..but it means dumping their nobody gets paid more than Mathews recline in the sand stance insisting Mathews gets the most $$$$ on the team..

In sny case Hawks would need to go near the max to get Marner to want to join a team still re-builfing and perennial basement dwellers..

I do notvseeceither joining Rantanen or Marner joining the Hawks..
