Why is Kerfoot on this team?

He's got jump. Him/Mikheyev need to get scoring though.

Perhaps he's overpaid, but he is an NHLer. When he's on he can be more than a 900k player.
I'd rather we pay 900k for a 900k player who can also be more than a 900k player whenever he's on.

I've nothing against Kerfoot personally, but I don't see the logic behind him still being around with our current cap situation. I fear the reasoning lies with our GM not wanting to admit defeat.

Kerfoots name was tossed around in trade rumours but no one wanted kerfoot with his cap/production/play on his team.

Could you imaging still having kadri and then signing brodie in the off-season anyway.

Dubas is clueless; i can't wait for the day till he is fired ! no sane organization will hire him

If he can essentially be replaced with a player earning ~1/4 the cap hit, then his trade value wouldn't figure to amount to much at all, no? A better argument might be found in another player providing better value for that 3.5 M. Now, who that is and how he's acquired?...

In Colorado he was a 40-45 point guy who was good on the PP. I don't think he's a bad player at all, just not a fit for the Leafs whatsoever.

You nailed da thread ... Kerfoot has 2 things going for him outstanding speed and he is remnant of a terrible trade ... but simple stupid plays like Wednesday night where he passed puck behind our net to no one and then boxed himself out of play on net by skating, with insane speed, to wrong spot ... cost us a GOAL against against a TRAP opponent (now Vesey did him no favours either with another peewee house league training play but that's another thread) ... he lacks hockey 101 smarts and unfortunately it can't be taught ... my guess he was a kid who did not play much competitive hockey as more I see him more I realize he lacks proper hockey training

He is meh. 1 goal 1 assist, on pace for 33 points over 82 games (if you want to extrapolate his numbers based on a small sample), but he is very vanilla. He is just sort of "there". He is not a problem for me.

He's had a rough start to the year like a lot of guys but was decent last year in a more defensive role than he had in Colorado.

Was still on pace for 35 points over 82 with a positive CF% and a 9% increase in defensive zone starts last year.

Assuming he is healthy over the course of the year if he can repeat that he is definitely valuable in the 3C role. Much more than a 900k player.

Kerfoot is a solid player. We don't need threads like these.

I think we need threads like this because there are opposing opinions.

I think he thinks the game poorly, takes stupid stupid reckless needless PIM's , he's small, not effective against bigger players. As annoying as he is, he's not even good enough to get under the skin of the opposing players.

We take him out and put Engvall in, do we lose anything? You could replace Kerfoot with virtually any forward on the taxi squad and not lose a thing, heck any of the top 5 forwards on the Marlies could replace Kerfoot and they would do as much or more as Kerfoot.

One week into the season and fans are starting believe this team isn’t as good on the ice as they are on the paper.
I personally think we've been fine given the circumstances (could definitely be better though), but I mean, I legitimately can't remember the last time this team was out of the first round of the playoffs, and I wasn't born when they last won the cup. We've seen this story many times before. Great team on paper with large expectations but the on ice product doesn't live up. Like I said it's way to early and there are things to like, but I understand the overall sentiment.

Because we sold low on Kadri. He's just a thoroughly average middle-sixer. Almost every team has one. My main complaint is he takes way too many bad penalties for a guy who brings no grit/intensity. He uses his stick like a guy who wore a birdcage into his early-20's.
I was gonna say that too LOL ... it is funny to me that so many of us see how he carries his stick ... but he is not worst guy in our forward group but at 3.5M per you can get a winger speedster for quite a bit less as we don't want a forward group totally lacking breakaway speed either ... i still think we need a solid 2 way centre to play 3rd line ... Kadri was too good for that role either way but was hoping we could have got a Colton sissons type centre plus a late 1st rounder 2020 for Kadri
