He really shouldn't. Not if voting were done right now.

Id be fine with getzlaf winning it but price most certainly is not that easily dismiss.

I know shots arent eveything but
Habs are 3rd in the league in goals against.
Out of the top 15 (yes top 15) teams in that catégory, habs is the only team with a negative shots for vs shots against ratio.
Here is the teams worst than the habs in that ratio:
Buffalo-toronto-phoenix-columbus-colorado-new jersey...

Hes been dominant.

That said, im not sure about a goalie winning the hart. It got to be very special. Like theodore back then. He was facing blank shot from the slot left and right from christmas to april.

You really oughta know people mean top of the standings. I don't think you'll find many realistic ducks fans who believe the Ducks are clearly the best team in the league.

"Clearly" being the operative word there. Anybody that thinks their team is "clearly" the best doesn't watch enough other teams play hockey. Though I admit, I think the Ducks are good this year and not just lucky... as unsustainable as that sounds.

I'm not trying to dismiss him. It's the "should win it" that I object to. I don't really think anyone has separated themselves to the point where they should win it.

I'm not the biggest Getzlaf fan. I think he's a top 5 center, but I think some people overrate him purely because he has a big body, as if being bigger magically makes you better at hockey.

That said, he's had an incredible year, especially in light of the injuries his team has sustained. He's my Hart pick so far this season.

it doesn't by itself, but all other things being more or less equal, bigger body does makes you better at hockey.
It's not like he is JUST big. He just destroyed the passing part of the skills competition relay after being one of the top performers in accuracy shooting competition too. He has skill, he has hockey IQ and he is a tremendous leader.
So he is really good at things that do not really depend on his size, and on top of it he is big too.
Size does matter ;) to an extent lol

Did he literally do that? Seems like a bad idea.

Getzlaf has had a great year, and, as mentioned, he helped tremendously when the team had injury after injury to key players. I'm not sure if that will be enough for the voters, but it isn't as if he came out of no where to end up on people's Hart radars.

"Literally" was a bad word choice, but you get the gist as to what I was saying. That kind of leadership quality is the factor that will separate Getzlaf from the rest of the pack.

Will it be enough for the voters? Well, given that most of them are hockey sportswriters who are older and go to bed at 10:30 p.m., 8 minutes before the puck drops in the West, I would say probably not. I am always shocked when a player from the West (California, Vancouver, and Arizona) wins anything, quite frankly.

Let's see

He is the Ducks captain who was the most important reason why the Ducks kept winning when we had important players out of our lineup with injuries or illness. He plays in all situations. He plays against the best of the opposing team and comes out on top a lot. 2 of the players who have more points then him are on a losing team and are linemates. He doesn't have a teammate who has around the same points as he has like multiple others who have more points then he has. He has been good at winning faceoffs something 1 of the players who have more points then him sucks at. While he is not in the top 5 for points he is very close to all of them who are ahead of him except the point leader.

Maybe I am a homer for saying he should be the favorite at this point but regardless he is damn damn good hockey player and am so happy to have him as a Duck. Hope he continues to play well and retires only playing for the Ducks.

Never forget Getzlaf's first season. Mark Messier, at the end of his long career, and never one to hand out compliments lightly, went out of his way to praise the rookie playing 3,000 miles away for his skill and playing the game the right way.

All these years later, we know why.

I love the fact that the OP asked an honest question, without any hate or vitriol and he got about 50% of well-thought out, well argued posts, explaining exactly why Getzlaf is the Hart favorite with Rinne out.

The other 50% mostly consist of elite-quality posts, "OP do you even watch hockey", "OP you reek of East Coast bias", "OP you don't watch Anaheim, do you...", etc.

Guy asked a question. If you can't be bothered to offer an insightful reply, why even post?

Being bigger does not magically make you a better hockey player. Being bigger and knowing how to take advantage of that does however make you a better hockey player.

Getzlaf is right up there to win the Hart. Will he? Hard to say. But I will be surprised if he is not among the top-5 vote getters when the season is over.

If you honestly believe that, you don't watch him enough. Despite claiming to pick him for the Hart this year.

Nobody who regularly watches Getzlaf can say with a straight face that Getzlaf is nothing more than high numbers and a big body.

So lately, I keep hearing about Getzlaf being the front runner for the hart trophy. A lot of discussions on forums, a recent survey conducted by TSN, and many other places - many are liking Getzlaf a lot for hart.

This isn't a Getzlaf-hate thread. I don't dislike him, he's a great player. I just literally do not understand what differentiates him from other top players this year.

As of this posting, he is 8th leading scorer in league. Low goal totals though (more assists than goals). He is +13, which isn't bad per se, but also not extraordinary among other forwards.

Is he having a good year? Sure. But what exactly makes him so much better than Crosby, Malkin, Voracek, Giroux, Kane, Backstorm, Tarasenko, just to name a few of the other top scoring "forwards" alone. This is without even looking at goalies, or defensemen.

Can someone explain?

Isn't Rinne a favourite for the hart?

Do you know where you are right now? That's 100% of every thread on this site unfortunately. No actual legit debate can be sustained because every thread is littered with snarky responses that don't bring anything to the table. I'm pretty sure the type of posts you're referring to are not supposed to be allowed because they're considered flaming but it's obviously never enforced. This is the reason why I've said for a while that I think the post limit needs to be increased to 50+ so that people cant just post one or two word sarcastic responses. It's also the reason that I've said for a while that this site is WAY overdue for a "Rep" system so that it's easier to see whos a good poster and whos a troll. If your rep gets low enough you get suspended from the site for a couple days.

For the record, my response to the OP was to break down each of the players that could be considered Hart candidates and why they may or may not have a shot.
