Why is Bruce Boudreau so popular?

Yes it was really kind of him to give Teemu 3 games to show his worth after Sochi, and after scoring 2+2 and being a first star in 2/3 games deciding he isn't a top player and putting him in the 4th line. Never experienced that kind of kindness in my life.
Teemu had no legs and no hands left. He was bringing his line down. The way he fired at Boudreau was just stupid.

Which tbh is something he's kept on doing ever since. Great guy but says the stupidest shit.

I don't understand this thread. It feels like the OP is trolling, but I dunno. I think Bruce is easy to figure out.

Boudreau has always been able to get more production out of his talented players than other coaches. I remember him transforming a struggling Washington team into an offensive Juggernaut. I still have a bobblehead of him that they handed out at a game after he won coach of the year in 2008. The problem is that his style hasn't translated to playoff success, and that's why most of his teams have ended up letting him go.

Looking ahead I think it will become pretty clear that Bruce wasn't the problem in Vancouver. I'm sure he's glad to be out of that circus.

Bruce is widely considered one of the best, nicest people in hockey

Second, he’s a solid coach and the Canucks fans were making a statement that they’re fully aware the management was scapegoating him and undermining him since the summer, while supplying him with a few great players on top of a pile of shit

Fans are behind him simply because he got dicked around by Vancouver and feel bad for him. Don't think he's anymore popular than a typical coach

Maybe you just started watching hockey but Bruce has always been popular in fandom and in the press. I cannot count all the times fanbases wanted him to come coach their team the times he was fired.

Because he is friends with Kevin Owens.

Pretty sure that's his dad.

Do the stats count as "digging up some quotes of long-retired players" he hasn't won shit?
OP, you are so lost it’s hard to believe. I neither like or dislike Boudreau, but I like plenty of people who haven’t won shit.

I myself am a perfectly likeable guy, but don’t have a cup. I understand some people even like McDavid.

Even your own pal who deserves better treatment, Saku Koivu never won shit at least to your mind, right? I’m sure you simply loathed Teemu Selanne till 2007 too.

Boudreau won the Jack Adams, he won the Calder. He actually won plenty of other things too. What you mean is he didn’t win the Stanley Cup. So what? If that what makes people likeable for you that’s a little weird.

For one, he didn't get his first head coaching job until he was 50 years old. Coaches in the minors for a long time before getting his shot. People like underdog stories like that.

& even tho he hasn't had a ton of playoff success; he's only missed the playoffs once as head coach (when coaching a full season).

Lol what does him wanting to come coach their team have to do with popular in this case? People want him because he's a good coach but that's not the voice being heard rn, it's the he's a classy guy, I'm with u Bruce that's loud right now

He's a big, fun teddy bear with a big heart and a foul mouth. He's got the second-best winning percentage as a coach in NHL history and he's never done anything problematic to warrant disliking him.

What's NOT to like?

So from what I’ve read, OP is Finnish, is unhappy with Bruce’s treatment of Selänne and Koivu years ago, and is displeased that Finnish coaches have been passed over in favor of him over the years?
You know, I just can't for the life of me think of why coaches who have never coached in the NHL are passed over for some nobody who only has one of the best winning % in NHL history. Someone make it make sense!

So you are calling Teemu a liar? Imma trust him over you.
Based on your responses in this thread, I'm quite certain that if Teemu told you ice cream was falling from the sky, you'd run outside with a bowl and spoon.

It seems quite obvious with his 1000+ games coached and his 600+ wins that he's a very capable coach, and that people find his attitude and mannerisms endearing, but I guess that means nothing because he slighted Teemu and Saku once.
