Why is Bruce Boudreau so popular?

Bruce was able to get an average ducks team to win the pacific division multiple times. He gets a lot out of players. But you can’t win all the time, and playing in Canada for a medium team is tough.

Because Rutherfords incompetence made him into a cult hero. You would expect that from a rookie GM.

Well when your boss tells you to do something, most people will do it. Or else they’re fired.
Undoubtedly, but that mentality doesn't take you very far when the going gets tough. And it's not like there was any serious risk of getting fired middle of the playoffs no matter how much of an intimidating bully Murray was. Boudreau has an excellent regular season record and significantly less so in the playoffs, with this kind of incidents in mind it doesn't look like a coincidence.

He comes across as a very likeable guy who the players mostly seem to like a lot. He also coaches a funner style than a lot of coaches.

Yep, cos Teemu was buried.

Teemu was 43 years old that season and still played over 14 minutes a game. Not buried at all, simply done as a top 6 guy at that point. He had 27 pts in over 60 games. Perhaps it was Koivu and Selanne being 39 and 43 years old?

So are we confirming that it's the looks and the media presence over actual accolades?

You seem very pissy about him not playing Selanne when he was 43 freaking years old. Pat Maroon who was/is a 4th liner scrub at best had no offensive skills really and still put up more pts with less ice time and without pp time. Putting up 4 pts in 2 or 3 GP after the Olympics shows just how bad the rest of the year was. It isn't an offence that at 43 years old he was no longer the great Teemu Selanne. Selanne and Koivu may be respected, but they are also human beings with feelings, which means they may have just been bitter that their time was up and blamed Bruce instead of their age and no longer being what they were.

What he did at the Olympics means nothing in the NHL. Two completely different games.

So you are calling Teemu a liar? Imma trust him over you.

No i actually started the thread to get some insight on why he is so popular.

If they are showing you the stats, then those are the stats and thus the truth.

Bruce is a very good coach that gets the best out of his players and wins a lot of games, while being very real in front of a microphone.

Yes, he hasn't had post season success, but looking at the teams he's coached, were any picked to be cup champs in the first place? Joel Quenneville had pretty much the exact same playoff reputation before the Hawks... got a cup capable roster, saw post season success. Go future how that works for a good coach. (Q isn't near as likable though, by a long shot)

I have no doubt, if Bruce had a real contender of a roster, you'd see real success in the post season.

Its just a byproduct of fan hate for management.

The fans feel they are victims of Canucks mismanagement, and so is Bruce, being a scapegoat. So the fans feel this common struggle along with Bruce
