Sorry we are so succesful, maybe we can take it back a knotch for you so you guys can catch up
I would not go there if I was you, lol. However I don't think politics and quality of life comparisons are allowed on this board so I will not take the bait, but for reference I'm from Finland..

"We ready to go?"

I don't like or dislike this kid. But that kind of no shits given attitude is what lots of the best pro athletes have in common. He will get welcomed to the NHL in his rookie season. I'm sure he will develop some humility along the way. Who really cares.

Maybe it’s because the kid is extremely talented and also good looking? That tends to bother other males.

could be why the op doesn’t like the King either.

Freud might have said that it's because you probably want to have sex with him, and you're rebelling against your own subconscious paraphilia.

I'm not saying that's the case. I'm saying that's what Freud might have said.
Makes sense. he also said he doesn't like Lundqvist and that is one sexy man

I am a nothing. Hughes is a young multi-millionare, superstar, professional athlete. I get that.

I don't like the Devils- but am mature enough to look at players beyond the jersey they wear.

My first girlfriend's family had Devil's season tix in the late 80's/early 90's. I was forced to like them to an extent. (I even had to help her judge who was the "hottest" guy on the Club. Good God what I did for that girl...)

Muller, Albelin, Shanahan, Dougie Brown..lot's of guys to like/respect..

So, no. There is just something that bothers me. Have never felt this with Hischier. Love the kid.

Something is off and I want to know if anyone else feels the same.

I am being 100% honest in my question in regards to how Hughes comes across. Probably is just maturity. Guys like Crosby and Kane have changed remarkably as they got older. Hughes is no doubt a good kid. Just asking what is it that bothers me.

You say you're a nothing, then in the same breath brag about having had a girlfriend.

What kind of monster are you?!?!

I don't really know enough about Hughes to understand perfectly what it is for you, but some players just have an incredibly punch-able face and annoying demeanor, so maybe it's that.

I call it the Seguin syndrome.

Opener! We are extremely similar in this! I felt your post 100%. I also hate Jack Hughes' personality: everything he does is so f'ing tilting. The way he turned his back to Kakko and talked to that #3 draft when those three were in the same room showed what kind of person he is. It's insane how opposite he is from Kakko - who is the most kind and precious human being i have ever seen. It literally makes my cry when I start to think Kakko's personality.

Lundqvist is a bit tilting also, maybe because he has zero character. But he has a soul I think.

There is two players in the NHL who has no soul: Nikita Kucherov and Leon Draisaitl. These two humans are terryfying.
Lol what?

I’m guessing your miserable. I don’t have any feelings towards any players. They don’t affect my life. Unless they wanna give me money then I’ll love them.

I call it jealousy bet you hated Kane for the money phone too.

I’m guessing you would stay inside on Hf all day if you were a nhl player.

Like seriously what do you expect from a young rich kid. I’m not even rich and I spend all my extra money partying. Id be swimming in women and alcohol, hockey would be last on my mind.

...Did you reply to the wrong person...? I said nothing about partying or money... All I said was that some people have a punch-able face...

I thought Kane was pretty stupid to post that picture on social media, because what kind of response does he think he's going to get, but if he wants to have a money phone, go nuts. Heck, Nylander looks like James Franco in Spring Breakers right now... Do I care? No.

You said Tyler seguin syndrome everyone hated on him for partying so unless the seguin syndrome is something else let me know.

What is so difficult to understand?

I have had a few personal interactions with Richter, towards the end of his career. I won't go into specifics, but it wasn't a glorious experience and I didn't care for his politics/world view. That definitely skewed my feelings for him as a Rangers great. I love what he did for my club, but I don't have unbridled love for him as a person.

Lundqvist is very reserved and definitely has a supreme arrogance about him. He is no question a good guy- great charity work as well as interacting with other NYC legends like John McEnroe (in a band), but he has never been a warm, fuzzy, lovable character. As such, I do love the guy for what he has done and not done (shady off-ice crap). I just don't feel a great connection with him. For God's sake, Johm Ogrodnick leaves me feeling more connected.

This Thread was not a joke, though I appreciate the feedback on that this is the most bizarre thread in 15 years.

I asked a question regarding a players demeanor and whether or not that was justified. I truly believe Hughes is a great kid.I just find something very off-putting in all the coverage he has gotten. In bringing up Ranger players, I was just illustrating that I had similar feelings for guys on the club I root for.

He went #1 overall. I thought it worth asking in these dead days of August.

It's literally just a made up term, and I said as such. I also said it means "an incredibly punch-able face and annoying demeanor". That has nothing to do with partying...

I would say most fans have players they like and don’t like.

You only cheer for teams and don’t have any favourite players or do you just like watching the puck move around and don’t cheer for anything?

I don't get any of the "Crosby vibe" from Hughes. None. He seems like a happy kid, that's pretty much it.

Yeah but Seguin is funny and can be self-deprecating, so people don't really hate him. Hughes will get there as he gets older.

These sorts of things always bring out the insecurities in the observer, not the observed.

To me, it seems like Hughes is genuinely loved by teammates. He's confident, clearly thinks and expects a lot from himself but also doesn't want to give off any false humility. And I've never seen him do an interview without building up his family, his teammates, the fans and/or management. I remember looking at his twitter feed and seeing only re-tweets of his teammates' and brothers' accomplishments.

Obviously he understands the PR game. He understands what reporters want to talk about. That's a plus in my book because it demonstrates actual intelligence and prescience. Think about it differently: a guy who can answer to the media for his team, a guy who can willingly carry the off-ice burden, that's someone who can shield the locker room during tough times.

We'll see over the years, but for now, I don't think people can fully accept that a guy can be publicly confident, media-savvy and still be a good, kind human being. We're so used to seeing the archetype of Gretzky, Lidstrom, Crosby, McDavid that I can't fault anyone for being suspicious. But Hughes has had a much more winding and worldly path than any of those guys. It makes sense he'd be a little bit more outgoing and less reserved.
